The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I'm sure you're all aware of these things, but I have to vent. I got to visit FlightSafety with my father (a high time Falcon captain). For the first hour, I watched the instructor fail engines and electical systems on my Dad in 1 mile vis/300 overcast holding in NYC and then land! What a learning experience. When he finished early, I was allowed a fight out of Newark and back. I couldn't believe how real it felt, the magnetic compass even worked! You really feel those G's on takeoff, and every nuance of aircraft detail. What a sim!-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

The ROWT Flight Manual recommends using a joystick button setting for Mixture Control(red lever),page 22.From the list in FLY11,which would be the best choices?Mixture DownMixture UpMixture Full RichMixture Full LeanMixture Power(Economy)I'm not managing the engine fuel system correctly as it cuts. out after about 5 minutes of flying.Where is the Fuel Booster switch?Rodger.(Thankyou ROWT team for a magnificant effort)

After having bought a new PC after having my Mac with very low amount of VRAM, I have finally bought Fly!2. I used to be very active here when the first version of FLY! was around, as I made aircraft like the EMB-120.My question here is, what is almost a neccessity to get Fly! 2 to work well on my PC? What updates should I get, what add-on's, etc? I know many of add-on's already, so if any of you could be so kind as to inform me of what updates are really needed, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, all!

Rene and all-I can't find the post now but someone on your great ROTW P-51 team mentioned getting some new sounds for the plane.I have an review from a 1999 UK flying magazine for a commercial CD called 'Avions Legendaires:Sons d'avions des annees 40-50'. It covered planes such as the P-51,Spitfires 5&14,P-63 King Cobra,Yak-52,Tiger Cat,Corsair,Skyraider,Hurel Dubois,Hirricane,Yak-11,B-17,P-47,Blenheim,Costellation,Magister and Fieseler Storch(now that last one would be a good plane for your next build!).All the planes are all very well recorded, not the usual 'recorded at an airshow stuff'.It's published by 'Burgundy Productions,21 Avenue de Ciney,BP115, 21140 Semur-…

I figured what I am about to say needed a separate post. And if you'll excuse my long windedness... ...I never knew Richard Harvey, I have heard of him through the FLY! series, though. I have never played it, but I know that it MUST be incredible just from the reviews here. Now, I am a Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 user, but that doesn't mean I don't respect anyone that makes a flight sim. I KNOW how much work goes into making one. You can see it by just flying around on one. Wish I knew the history, I'd get into a long description if I did. But I don't want to disrespect him through my post here, I just wanted to say thank you for the contribution to this h…

Hi all!I have an idea about making virtual aerobatic teams. If there are virtual airlines, why there are no virtual aerobatic teams ?in my opinion group flying is much more interesting and exciting than "individual" flying, so if the multiplayer server will be OK we should at least give it a try..maybe I am too crazy, but I dream about virtual aerobatic airshows, aerobatic competitions between different teams, many teams with their own special liveries etc..I would also like this post to express a big thanks to ROTW team for their P-51 Mustang, since this aircraft seems to me to be ideal for virtual aerobatic fly!ingI would like to hear (to read) your comments or suggesti…

Hey Gang,On Fly!II, I've donwnloaded and installed the above plane according to directions. (Delete all PA-28 aircraft POD's and install the 5 newly downloaded POD's in the "aircraft" folder) The side views do not show when I fly the plane and look left, right, and towards the rear. Only the front view and the feul selector are present. Any help? Thanks, blkwlsn

When you are up and running with it, make sure that you experiment with the "persistent" world option. You set FLY2 start up mode on Persitent world, and this will enable you to FLY like in the real world. FLY will remember where you landed, including the weather . So If you want to pretend to be flying a regional airline, let's say from paris to lyon to nice and back to paris, you first create a flight plan, click infometar button and use the weather wizard to download real weather for paris and lyon. If you have autoweather, the flight plan will be saved in the "saved simulation" folder as a sit file. You then start FLY2 and autoweather will automatically load the weath…

Help... im having trouble with Catalina (AVX) 22 approach. This is the normal approach for the airport. Winds are normally coming from the west, over the island, and drop (during final) off the edge of the cliff. This, from what I've read, makes the approach pretty tricky, since if you come in lined up, you will sink right before you reach the runway, and well... watch out for that cliff! ;) Its tricky enough that if you choose to fly there during training, youre required to fly with a CFI.Problem... Im getting the EXACT opposite happening on my approach. I line up... and as I get closer to the runway, I begin to rise horribly. So much that I have yet to even land t…

After looking at Larry and Johnny's screenshots of the P51 I realized their shots do not have the little yellow arrows that appear whenever I press the ctrl tab keys to take the picture. This made me wonder how they did this. I'm not sure what they have done to eliminate this but I just figured out that you can remap the cntl tab combination to an unused single key, Q for example, and the screenshot will be taken without the cntrl arrows appearing.

Hi, What happened to all the great shots by Scott of the NYC area? Wanted to use them as screen savers ! Tony

This is what ALL simulated fighter cockpits should look like! Fantastic artwork & clarity! It looks so good, I havn't even flown it yet.......Looks like I'll have to spread a few "screenshot's" around the various forums, to let the "masses" learn of the talents of the ROTW group. :)L.Adamson

Well there aint a lot I can do without a computer and I cant afford to buy one until after my holidays at the end of May. My PC has gone the way of the Doddo and Im now on my old 200 mhz thing.Sadly I have lost all my new Airports Manchester Ringway, Manchester Woodford and Manchester Barton plus I was in the middle of re-doing Liverpool John Lennon Airport.I wish you all lots of fun with FlyII and I hope to be back with you before the summer. All The BestStevehttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.jpghttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theukLiverpool John Lennon Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=17455Blackpool Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/se…

I have dived into FlyII after running Fly2k just out of familiarity(that and getting a better motherboard and cpu)As I have rendered scenery, I've noticed mismatch in scenery-runway heights, sometimes the plane rests feet above the scenery and runway, other times the runway is over the scenery a few feet.My question is how to flattewn it. The scenery is not podded; and back in Fly!2k it was possible to use the editor to do this(the "flatten apiports" function.)How is this possible with FlyII?Many thanks for any help;Caillean

Hello,I was hoping others could help me figure out a couple of things, as I am new to FlyII. Bear with me, because I am used to MS FS2K2. When I am sitting in the flight deck of any aircraft, how do set the hat switch on my joystick to change views accordingly? In the 407 for example, moving the hat switch slides the panel to one side or the other. The other question is where do I find add-on sceneries, airports and terrain mesh. I like Bush Flying and hope there might be some good scenery and mesh out there. Thanks for any advice or help you can offer.Larry :-wavehttp://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/logo75.gif

Today I uploaded the First Flight Airport.By installing the First Flight Airport (FFA) you can practice landing with other aircraft that are landing and taking off from the airport. The three aircraft are the Pilatus, Flyhawk and Aurora.I have also uploaded the Currituck County Airport (9W7). You can fly out of 9W7 and join the traffic pattern for First Flight Airport (FFA).The aircraft at FFA are departing on runway 2, turning left (downwind leg), continuing to base and landing. The traffic pattern altitude has been set at 500 feet AGL and all traffic lands on runway 2.All comments, good or bad will be appreciated.I am also asking for other ideas on how the airport scene…

Hello all,If this issue was covered elsewhere, my apologies for the repeat, but I didn't see it addressed in the FAQ.I just picked up FLY II yesterday. Patched it up to the latest patch 2.5.240.I'm running Win XP Home w/SP1, a P3-933 processor, 512 MBs of RAM, and a Radeon 9500 pro card with the most recent ATI drivers. If I select DX 8 or DX 8TNL when FLY II launches, my display looks like a bad acid trip -- textures tearing and flashing and mouse cursor tracers. Using the DX 7 option works, but obviously I'd like to take advantage of DX 8 TNL.Is there a workaround to this? Or am I stuck with the DX 7 renderer?Much thanks.Scott

I'm new to Fly2, and was wondering if my observation- that there is no simulation of the effect of wind during the takeoff run until the wheels are off the ground- is correct? Is wind more accurately simulated in Xplane or FS2002 with respect to its effect while on the runway, or is it just my imagination/pickiness? I know in Xplane, at least, you really have to pay attention to stay on course both before and after lift off.Any comments/observations on this would be appreciated, thanks.Best,Joel
