The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I just finished testing Didier's VolNav and, it's revolutionary. Everything I tested worked flaulessly. Don't be intimidated by the french; the program is simple and intuitive. Didier does plan to provide English instructions, but don't forget he's a one man show and the program is free.As part of your flight planning, you will be able to orient the plane according to the runway that you choose. When FLY2 start, the plane will be ready for takeoff.Install flystart.dll and get familiar with it. With VolNav and flystart, all of your flight plan will start at exactly the gate and the point near the gate that you've chosen. From the pic, you can see that there are many option…

Hello All,I already sought help for this issue on the Mac forum, but no luck. I've been told that a Mac flier from the ROTW group participates here, so I thought I'd see if he (or anyone else) might be able to help me through this.I'm trying to load up the TBM700 Socata for Mac, but whenever I select the aircraft I receive the error message "Subsytem is not registered (tbmf)" and Fly2 quits. I've checked that I have the correct (Mac) version, have unstuffed all parts correctly, and placed the Dll's where they're supposed to go (at least according to other Mac users who have succesfully gotten this plane running). I even downloaded the file again to make sure my original …

Hi folks,I am patched up to the latest 240-250 and everything works great for me. I have just one small problem with the Socata. I thought surely I'm not the only one so I haven't posted before now but unless I missed it somehow, no one else has posted this problem....The back up HSI guage is inop. It is frozen over to one side... not always the same side. This is a small inconvenience I can certainly live with but was just curious if it can be fixed.Anyone have any suggestions?Thanks,Earl.... I moved and lost my Fly! II cd. I found a Fly! II cd in a multi-pack cd at the local computer store (Fry's) and bought that. Unfortunately the version is 2.0.197. Is there any way to patch this version? Thanks,George

Well, Didier has been working hard to provide some great new features. For example, the ability to have FLY2 on "persistent World", thereby providing the ability to fly, land and use VOLnav to file another flight plan without having to reaload FL2. Also, a quick button will give you the airport where you landed .tony

VolNav is very, very close to completion. One great feature that has not been mentioned will be its ability to place the aircraft near terminals and hangars with the help of the great flystart.dll, which some of you may be already using. Imagine when you file a flight plan and have all the choices imaginable! Volnav is practically complete. Let's all reply to Didier(rotw) with warm and encouraging words. He's very close. What is happening for FLY2 behind the scenes is very exciting. It's almost the best kept secret for us FLY2 aficionados.tony

Since re-installing Fly! again. I'm trying to set up ability to contact ATC for local airport. I had it working about a year ago. At least I think I did. I have the dex files in the Fly!data directory. I used deximport. Its been awhile since I have tried to do all this. It seems to me that there is a step that Im leaving out. The airport shows up in the directory list and I can teleport to it just fine. I have that part right. It will not show up in the ATC listing as a available airport. Randall if your still around. Gimme a yell. I think you were the one who finally figured out what it was I needed to do the last time around. Oh yeah I did add this airport. It was non e…

Help!I was just wondering if anybody has seen these black squares before and if so how to fix them. At first I thought I could fix them with ground transform, but as I get close to the actual tile, the black disappears. The actual location is in the Gulf of Mexico just south of Gulfport/Biloxi, MS. I do have the terrascenes installed for Mobile and Baldwin County, both by Ken Salter. Also I had to place both of these pod files (incl. the associated *.scf files)in my scenery shared folder or I get a CTD when teleporting into the area. Thanks,Robert

Hello All,I find myself looking with envy at many of the screenshots posted on the forum- the clouds look incredibly realistic! Layering, diversity, etc....I've downloaded some of the cloud packages from Avsim, but I don't really know how to use them. My clouds still seem to look bland and artificial (though my sky is much improved by SkyFire!).Could anyone who's good with creating realistic cloud layers offer some tips to a newbie? Thanks!Best,Joel

I've uploaded my Swiss repaint of the Flyhawk and it should be available tomorrow. On the inside, I've changed the colors of the panel to match the 2003 Skyhawk SP (tan on top, black on bottom). This one has been a bear to get right, but the results are worth it. Some pics:http://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...-CDE_Sunset.jpghttp://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...E_Mountains.jpghttp://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p..._Mountains2.jpgAs a side note, I wanted to mention that I realize the registration numbers should be on the bottom of the port side and top of the starboard side of the wings. Because the original model reuses textures for each side of t…

I asked this in the Developer's Forum, but haven't seen much in the way of responses. I realize that the Fly! community reads this forum very frequently, so I thought I'd post the link to my question here too....http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID19/534.htmlLong and short - anyone up to fixing the weather radar? And how about Icing? The first request doesn't seem like a very difficult task. The second one might be tougher.-DK----David KohlFly! I have suddenly lost the view of the the terrain out the cockpit windows. All I see is blue sky and a half moon. If I use the camera views I can see the runways and terrain normally, but out of the cockpit it is all blue sky. I am not sure how I lost it, though I had just updated the nav data using AUST_DEX110 which I had downloaded from AVSIM and installed. I had flown a flight or two with no difficulty with the terrain. I am wondering if I have inadvertently hit some combination of keystrokes which disabled it?Before I reinstall everything, I thought I would ask for help. Any suggestions?
