Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Congratulations to Tom and all the rest of the staff at AVSIM for the award given by Vflight.org. I simply couldn't imagine an Internet life without AVSIM - the first thing I do in the morning and before I go to bed is reading the latest at AVSIM, not to mention all the visits I do in between. I wonder how many of you out there have AVSIM as the start page! It's a hard work and a fine balance you have to make considering that all us simmers out there must be the most demanding bunch of guys (and girls) you are likely to encounter out there on the web! Keep up the good work and may all good things come to you as well as to Mr Richard Harvey - Fly! was the ONE reason that a…

I have just started on twin-flying with the Kodiak. I have found that once I get up to altitude and set the autopilot the plane flies with about 45% nose down trim. (This is with the recommended settings of 30inHg/2400rpm). The problem is when I try to come off autopilot to climb the aircraft won't because it has so much nose down trim, even using full throttle/full rpm. I am use to the Sahara where you use the automated ascend/descend system. This is also really a pain when I come off autopilot to land. It doesn't seem realistic that you would have remove all the trim and then try to climb, so clearly I am missing something. What am I doing wrong here?

I just got FLY!2 for Christmas and I have downloaded and installed all patches as per the Oct COMPUER PILOT magazine. I also downloaded and installed the 30 mappack files. I didn't get any errors. But when I go to flight planner or go to choose an airport menu, nothing is listed anywhere. I get blank screens with no airports listed. Am I doing something wrong or did something not load?Joe C.

I just want to pass along some good results after changing my setings. I have been involved with FlyII since the early beta tests. I started out with a 8 meg video card. It was as to be expected very slow and jerky. It worked however. :) Ive since then upgraded complete system. With my prior system I couldnt run with the directX T&L setting. After reading a post here in the last couple of days. I want to thank Roger Mazengarb for a suggestion he gave to another simmer here. http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...ewmode=threadedI decided to try the T&L setting and I'm very pleased with the results. I'm not a nit picker when it comes to FPS. But after choosing…

Hello, I am fly with Fly 2 and import fs scenery with FSI 1.02, a great program for the fly comunity, but I hace any problems:- The scenery generated not is solid, a example, if I want to takedown with a helicopter in a top building it is not solid and the helicopter go down to the level gound.- The scenery not can edit with CTRL E ?? for the moved areas.- The trees have seen strange, not seen transparent.(please me my english language). - Other things what have been in next release is support the terrain meshes and dinamic scenery.Greetings and thanks in advance to Padraic for FSI and Rich Harvey for you great simulation.:-rotor

I've been working with Didier great VolNav and, as some of you may know, it saves the flight plan into a *.sit file. What this means is that when you close FLY2 you lose the flightplan unless you load the same *sit file. Since I've been wanting to fly like the real regionals, that is start at one aiport and stop at another, and eventually end up at the original airport, I've always worked with the "persistent" word mode. This mode simply allows you to leave FLY2(close the program) and pick up the flight next time you restart the program. I just discovered that I can create long flight plans with VolNav, save them, start FLY2 by loading the situation, but when I exit, if F…

I got back into MSFS after a long lay off. The last sim I had was MSFS200 and FLY! (never got to FLY2). One thing I have noticed thus far was the panels in FLY! were absolutely gorgeous and looked almost real compared to FS2000/2002. MS's panels look jagged even with anti aliasing ON all the way. Some are OK, but some of the panels I have downloaded really look bad.I'm not pro-FLY, pro-MSFS or anything, as when I had FLY! I went with MSFS this time around because there seemed to be more support for it. So my question here is for people that have both FLY and MSFS.So is it just me? Or are the MSFS panels just, well -- always jagged looking compared to the scrollable, detai…

Does anyone know where I can find the dord*.smf and nord*.smf models referenced in file TM_ORD_B.S01, within the data folder, D193160 which is part of the dyn_kord misc. add-on?I tried e-mailing the author, Javier Rodriguez, but I think I saw in another post that he is out of town until next week. The fuel truck dynamic model works great if I do not install this one specific file which appears to contain some buildings for kord. I get a CTD error message, can't find the models if I install the referenced file. Thanks in advanceRobert

Ok, trying to download the map packs. Passed the invasive quiz to login on Gamespy so I could be 'allowed' to download em. Que'd up numbers one through 15, and I got a couple that actually went through. However, after waiting for over 2 hours now, while slowly watching the remaining 12 files go to '2 minutes remaining' etc. THey ALL RESET TO 56 minutes, do you want to 'go now'??Do these files exist somewhere else - someplace that will allow you to, DOWNLOAD them, as opposed to tie up your time and patience, lying to the user about the 'minutes remaining'??Why on earth would TRI 'serve' their files this way? What a complete sham. First lets ship an incomplete program,…
