Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hello,With the latest Fly!2 final patch it's possible to put very high resolution textures as "Non-Z buffered" objects on the ground. To show this interesting feature, I started making scenery of belgian airport EBKT.This is a first version of EBKT, with very limited 3D models. It covers an area of 4 x 4 Nm with EBKT at it's centre. It uses real aereal photograph (Property of the company Eurosense)The resolution of this scenery is only limited by the memory on the video card. (At least 64MB is needed for video memory).I expect to upload it before end of this year. And of course it's freeware.Hope You enjoy this upcoming scenery of EBKT.Frank D'hontFly!2 beta team.

I was successfull in unpod/unpodding and repainting an aircraft however when I click the SELECT aircraft in the drop down menu FLY2 closes/exits and when I checked FLY2 folder there was no error logged in the GTFO. I might be missing some steps here so I would appreciate your help. I am reinstalling my Fly!II setup after switching to XP. I have the original version and all of the patches (except the latest one). I was looking to see if there was anything I needed to do different with XP. My plan was to install, then immediately patch to 230 and then to the latest patch before doing anything. I was using InfoMETAR and C4TO before. Does anyone have any advice for using them in XP?I had considered just getting MSFS but I hate to give up all of my Fly!II files. Plus, now that I have a stick with rudder control I want to try my hand at the 407 again. Thanks in advance for letting me take advantage of your collective experiences.

Well Santa brought me a CH Yoke for Christmas. I don't have rudder pedals yet so that means I have to run Fly II with the rudder and aileron coupled. I believe Fly! had a setting called "coordinated turns" which allowed you to use a joystick without a rudder control but I can not find this choice in Fly II. I found two lines in the fly.ini that say "couplerudderaileron" and coupleruddertoaileron". I think these are redundant but I set both to 1 not knowing which has priority. Even after making this change the axis indicator only shows aileron movement without rudder movement. Anyone have a clue how to set Fly II for coordinated turns?Dean

Hi guysLike a few others, seeing the latest patch from the talented and courageous Richard Harvey I have reinstalled Fly!2. I have a new rig and this was another reason for giving it a fresh try. I am pleased with the results that I am getting but occasionally come across the odd item that I remember being an irritant in my original efforts. One is the apparent inability to get one's aircraft in the correct position on the map (keypress m). I was wondering if in the intervening period, someone out there has managed to produce a fix or a workaround for this small glitch.I was a tremendous fan of the original Fly! and I am again experiencing the thrill of the magnificent co…

Is anyone else having problems with the new patch (V2.50.240) and development add-ons such as Advanced Logbook (V1.1) and Advanced Checklist (V1.5) or is it just me? Logbook will not allow me to open an existing file or start a new one and checklist will not open any checklists. I am unfortunately not a programmer but I suspect it has something to do with the *.dll files.Although I like the add-ons, the new Fly! II is fantastic especially when flying a PMDG 757 at dusk...(lost many flights when the wheels came down and the front wheel was at a 90 degree angle to the plane). Many thanks to R Harvey and all associated for a great flight sim and to AVSIM staff for making it …

I am experiencing a problem with the 4 Hawker fuel gauge pointers (2-qty, 2-flow)and the flap position pointer after the new patch. The pointers are too big and "float" above the panel in the wrong positions. Could someone else check and see if its just me?

I've finally decided to take the unpopulated airports into my own hands. Here's how I do it: I use fs2002 to go to may airport of choice. I then take a few screen shots. I load up Terramodels and, voila, a few minutes later, I 've got a perfect airport with buildings and terminals in their geographically accurate locations. tony

Well, while at work yesterday I received a call from my wife that my computer has gone to the happy hunting ground. I returned home to find that I have a drive failure or controller failure - looks like I get to spend my Christmas vacation trying to resurrect or repair her, so I'm offline from home right now and won't be posting until this is resolved.I had a lot of Fly! stuff on the failed drive, including beta versions, scenery production, DB projects, etc. so I'm a little concerned to say the least! As I am about to go incommunicado, I would pass on Season Greetings to all of you. God's richest blessings to you in the coming year - see you on the other side.C.A.V.U.
