Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I know this isnt the right area to post this but I figure I may not get a quick response otherwise. This should be in the Terrascene development I know. I'm doing a render right now as I type this. I started it earlier this afternoon. Its taking quite a bit of time. My question is what will happen if I were to stop it right now in the middle of the Job?Will I loose what it has rendered thus far? Or will it allow me to pick up where it left off at? Its been running now for about 6 hours and is a little past half way. So I dont want to stop now if it is going to mess it up. Any one out there? :) TonyWhy Oh .... Could one of you gurus tell me how to make the (obviously hidden) "AI Pilot" feature -- which apparently is similar to the one in Fly 1 -- work? I'm referring to the one in the debug keys menu. When I assign it a key and activate it it just says "Computer pilot active" but nothing happens!Regards,Ilari

It appears that the datafactory.mlf file, which I backed up before running the new patch per the install instructions, does not have the plane models, ie. "TRILow.acm", "TRIMed.acm", etc. which I added a while ago for some sceneries and/or terramodels. Does anyone know if these need to be added back into the factory.mlf file?

Those of you who fly twins and wondered how you can control each engine with the throttle, simply go to the "Engine Focus" line in the "Airplane" keys, and assign it a key. In FLy2, when you press the key, you will see a small text display on the lower left of the instrument panel that indicates which engine is active. So, you will see either "Engine one", "Engine two" or all. It's a great way to use the engines when making tight turns .tony

I checked the AllowDebug, and it's a '1'. Somehow, the "TAB" key does not seem to work anymore. Does any one know what else I need to do? Very strange.tony

Dear Fellow Fly!ers:Tonight I'll be celebrating Christmas above 30,000ft, somewhere over the Caribbean in an American Airlines 777. My wife and I are going on vacation to Argentina where I will have limited access to the Internet (because I'll be on vacation... ;-) ).I'd like to wish everybody Happy Holidays full of peace and love. This has been a very exciting year for the Fly! community, let's keep working like this to keep growing this wonderful thing we have all helped to create: a caring, friendly, respectful and devoted community.Mr. Richard Harvey, thank you for making this happen. Without you, we wouldn't have had Fly! nor this wonderful community. I wish you, Tar…

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all!First things first. I want to send out a big thank you to Rich Harvey!!! You never cease to amaze me. :) Your unselfishness and dedication to Fly as a whole is unsurpassed. The world needs more people like you in it. I just recently re-installed FlyII on my system. So I thought I would visit Avsim to see how things were going. This was a couple of weeks ago. I nearly gave it up back about a year ago. Due to operator error's of my own doing. FlyII wouldnt even boot up or run. So in disgust I just did a complete format of both drives. Then I came here to check out how things were going. I read a couple of posts and didnt find an…

Hello all Fly! 2 -flyers!I bought Fly! 2 (European-version) when it came on stores and I didn't like it. I have flown too much MSFS -series. Now when this patch came, I took Fly! 2 -from the "dark" and istalled it back with patch. I love the clouds, even IL-2 cannot beat them.Well I was wondering is there any kind of world wide navigation-data update for Fly! 2? I was pretty disapointed because there was no ILS at many airports in Finland as there is in real life. And apron with taxiways are also missing... Many NDB:s, VOR:s, ILS:s don't exist. If there isn't any nav-update, then Fly! 2 is good only for flying between big airports and in Unites States.

I've noticed that the APU remains ON regardless of the master switch position. Where can I find the CB - well is this a problem in Fly2? Also notice that when running, the APU EGT is always in the red band on the indicator. Another inconsistency is the illumination of both the Ice Protection Select and the Stall Ident amber annunciator lights on the Master Warning Panel, along with the Ident Inhibit 1,2,3 annunciators. On the O'head panel I cannot get the AC guage to register AC current with all Inverters on (XS1,XE,XS2). Could this be the reason for the annunciations? Finally, is the copilot Key "Z" not programmed in Fly 2, and are any of these questions answered with c…

An interesting one this, that I'm posting on the off-chance that someone else has the same problem.Trying to teleport or using the View button with another aircraft's details selected resulted in my looking at the Windows desktop every time. Some detective work revealed that this was down to a modified geograph.pod file. I'd updated this file some time ago when updating navaids to the latest AIRAC cycle. Restoring the original file fixes this problem.Andrew Luck18 miles SW EGSH

I have just finished a flight from Milan to Genova with pretty lousy weather conditions. The flight was great. No erratic fps and the visual effects were simply outstanding. FLY2 is born again. ROTW, if you're reading this, it'd be great if VOLNAV provided the same INfometar and autoweather options that FSbuild provides, that is, create file plan and it will automatically download Infometar weather as well as load( through autoweather) the weather when FLY2 is started with the adventure file. I know that VolNav creates a *sit file, but I think that the txt file that is used for the gps can be used to load the weather automatically.tony
