The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

This is not a "bug"The new system to change airports is rather cumbersome andwhen you finally get to teleport it takes a very, very longtime to boot-up the new airport. Is this a fixable problem? Please [email protected]

I bought fly!2 in a bargain set after owning it a previous time. Due to having to sell my old computer and all my games I couldn't wait to get my hands on it again. It comes pre patched to 197 and is okay if I patch it to 210. But when I try 230 or the last patch after the load screen I get wierd shapes and parts of objects overlapping my aircraft. Now before anyone laughs at me I did put together my last computer and here are my new specs. My girlfriend wanted a computer she could use so we bough an hp low end model.HP 310n Intel pentium 4 1.1 GHZOnboard video at 4 mb Intel 810i128 megs ram.intel sound Windows XPNow I know that running fly on an onbord video chip is a si…

If you use InfoMETAR's Thinning functionality in conjunction with this final patch for Fly II, you will most likely get the best results if you set the "Minimum miles between included stations" in the Thinning Settings dialog to 0 miles. With this last patch, Fly II's METAR interpolation routine has been improved to where it seems to be working pretty well, especially in areas with dense METAR coverage, so that particular feature of InfoMETAR's thinning algorithm should no longer be required in most cases.Nonetheless it is still worthwhile to use InfoMETAR in conjunction with the final patch, because you still benefit from the many other improvements it makes, such as th…

Hi.First of all thank you for the patch. I am sorry but I din't read the "readme" file before I activated the last patch, so I have not made a back up of the recomended files. Now I get a fatal error when I try to do changes after the sim has started.I am able to fly in the start up situation, but if I want to select an another aircraft, or change the time setting I get the following message:Fatal error caused by .DLL" modulespcpydll.dll" in DLL ventNotice routine. File:Dllman.cpp line.2023. Can anyone give me an advice on how to solve the problem, or send me a valid pydll.dll file?Tor Arild Danielsen

Bear with me... this is a little complicated. The new Directory-search function has some problems and we may have to exercise a little care with it.1. Searching for "airports" seems to be okay, to start.2. Searching for "navaids" on "all states" seems to be okay.3. Searching for "navaids" on a specific state, appears to return the correct NUMBER of entries, but does not return entries for the requested state. Instead, it returns navaids all over the US. For example, searching for all navaids in ALASKA returns 138 entries, probably the correct number, but includes ELY, NEVADA, for example, and does not include BRW, Point Barrow, ALASKA. Doing a search on BRW in the F…

Here is what to do:Go into options, then click on the realism...optionsClick on the Helicopter tab at the top of the box.Angular damping gain & Hover damping gain have a slider each and will be set to 0. Move the sliders up to 100.As you get better at the Bell407 you can move the sliders down.Any more Helicopter tips?Post them here!PS New Bell407 Splash Screens have been uploaded!!!http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=24136 Steve Brown "The Best Aid To Navigation, Is Having Been There Before" ;-)

Several questions for any 3dfx Voodoo 5 / WinXP users.Recently installed Fly II after using Fly 2k for over a year. Followed the "FIRST TIME FLY!ERS - PLEASE READ", patched to build 210 (I am using the US release of Fly II) without any problems. Started Fly II and in the startup options I selected DX 8, resolution 1024X768, Bit depth 32 bits, Video mem > 32MB. Simulation starts normal with the above selections. However, if I restarted Fly II and selected the "High Detail Textures" on the startup options menu, I get the following error message. "DIRECTX 8 3D DRIVER ERROR - Unable to create software vertex processing device - If you see this message, you need an updated …

I'm using fly since the begining and had a problem that I thought was my machine (Pentium II, 266, 128MB Mem and NVidia 32MB running Windows 98). When flying, fly stops each 5 to 8 minutes for a while (2 to 5 seconds) and then continues. It is terrible specially when it occurs in the final approach.OK, I've changed my machine to a Dell Pentium IV, 2GB, 256MB Mem and NVidia 64MB, running Windows XP Home. I was excited because this "stops" should not occur. I was wrong, it still occurs with the same frequency and for the same 2 to 5 seconds each stop.My Fly! II is at 230 and fully installedDoes somebody know if it is related to any Fly! II parameter? I'll appreciate any hel…

Passengers on a plane are waiting for the flightto leave. The entrance opens, and two men walkup the aisle, dressed in pilot uniforms. Bothare wearing dark glasses. One is using aseeing-eye dog, and the other is tapping his wayup the aisle with a cane. Nervous laughter spreads through the cabin, butthe men enter the cockpit, the door closes, andthe engines start. The passengers begin glancing nervously, searching for some sign that this is just alittle practical joke. None is forthcoming. The plane moves faster and faster down therunway, and people at the windows realize thatthey're headed straight for the water at theedge of the airport. As it begins to look as though the…
