The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Just sent up to the AVSIM server. I've read where current AA practice is not to use the rudder lights. I'm not sure on this so you can either fly with them on or not.Pete

Is there a way to access the sectionals from Windows? (Ie without firing up the sim) Also, is there a way to scroll around in the sectionals WITHIN the sim. When I go to map view, and 'open map' I get a close up view of a sectional all right, but if I try to zoom out, it disappears, and there does not seem to be a way of scrolling around to look at the rest of the chart. Finally, I heard that the rest of the sectionals were made available somewhere on the net. Is it here at Avsim, or elsewhere?I also own Fly2k, and may be able to access them there if possible. Any thoughts?

I D/L the EBKT_zip file and did everything the read-me file said. I saw fantastic looking ground tiles that match the photos in a couple of posts. Also saw the 3D models and 2D pics of houses, church, etc. However, my attached pics for the sky above the 2D scenery doesn't look anything like the pics in the other posts. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any assistance.Robert

I am just getting back into Fly!II after a layoff. I am running XP and have the program patched to 240. I was flying the TRIHawk and was about 2.5 hours into a 3 hour flight, just waiting for the ariport to come into sight at night. I loaded the sectional map to check my progress and got this message:Video card error messageCan't select texture NFTW0923.RAW, because you did not allocate any 32x32 8888 textures in render.iniI am running a Ge Force 2 video card. I have the settings set to: Renderer: DirectX8 (although I am actually running the new DirectX9)Resolution: 1024x768Bit Depth: 32bits/pixelVideo Memory: 32mb or less (the card has 32mb)High Detail Textures: unc…

I am in the early stages of testing a dedicated roger wilco server that will be open to the Fly public. I do have a few questions and would like your ideas. How should the "channels" be configured? I was thinking of using just one common "unicom" for now. I was thinking of allowing other users to create a channel for any online events and such. Please let me know your ideas. The address will be posted soon.

I just completed the survey and reviewed the results and we have a big problem here at Avsim. Based on the results, it seems 3 people cannot figure out what their gender is! ;) Dean Karis

I need some help again. I started using metar information to bring more reality to my flights. I noticed that the environment becomes much more real when loading metars than when simply defining the weather in the wheter menu. However, there is an strange point. I've loaded the following metar for SBGR and SBCT. I don't know why, it loads the correct information, but up side down. SBGR takes the SBCT line and vice versa. Does any one have a tip?------ Metar file2002/12/27 18:00SBCT 271800Z 16007KT 5500 BKN015 26/19 Q10152002/12/27 18:00SBGR 271800Z 08005KT 9999 BKN020 SCT015 OVC030 26/19 Q1015___ JJLobo ___55 11 37268158*:-*

Maybe it is old news for some of you.For me it was new and I think it will be a help for others too. Before the final podding all the files must become their ownunique names. An example:When a make a repaint of the Pa19 I have to rename 47 different files in the art folder.Let`s say all the filenames starting with Zpa19**.* should be replaced with Dpa19Doing this by hand ( one by one ) takes a lot of time. The tool I found ,does this for you in a mousclick. Is is called "THE Rename" , it`s freeware and you can find it here:http://www.herve-thouzard.com/therenamea.phtml

I've always suffered not being able to play Fly!2 as it should be played because of my Video Card, an ATI Radeon All-in-Wonder 32MB. I could never quite get those 64MB Video Card high res textures or any of the other niceties that the NVidia cards provided. Well, I've finally jumped ship and gone for a GeForce 4 Ti4200, 128MB memory. Finally, in a few days, I'll be able to dust off my Fly!2 disc and get some sim time in.My only fear is that I will hunger so much for more that I will give up one underdog side (the ATI card) only to adopt another (TRI's attempts to fight the behemoth). I'm so thankful for the inspiration that Rich has given to this hobby, even and becau…

Just sent the TWA St.Louis Rams livery repaint for PMDG's Boeing 757-200 for Fly! II off to the AVSIM server. Side note - Seem's I've hit the ceiling for installed aircraft. I've got about 170 aircraft/repaints loaded in the Aircraft folder but only see about 150. I've removed aircraft from the beginning of my list and I'll see previously non-listed aircraft after doing so. can anyone else confirm this?Pete

I've created TerraScenery for most of the Rockies, areas around Salt Lake, Grand Canyon. I'm looking for additional suggestions for beautiful VFR scenery. Criteria: Places around the US where using TerraScene will result in wonderfully visually-beautiful ground scenery for flying. Any suggestions other than the above are appreciated.-DK----David KohlFly! II v230Dell 8200 P4/1.8G, 1024MB RAM, Nvidia GF4 Ti4600 v40.72, WinXP Home Edition SP1.CH Pro Pedals and Yoke USB.
