Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I curiously downloaded the Beechcraft 1900 to see what the climb rate felt like during take off. Pretty nice lil aircraft. While at WWD which is down the shore in NJ at Cape May. It looks like everyone was visiting the area. :) I acheived this by changing the values for dynamic scenery. I cranked it up to 50 just to see what affect if any it would have. Normally one could expect to see maybe a couple of other aircraft in the area. As the screen shot shows there was a lot of tourists heading to Cape May. To think its suppose to be temps in the teens this weekend. brrrrrrr :)TonyFlyII! ver. 2.40Directx 8.1nVidia drivers 41.09ECS K7S5A SOCKETA /DDR/ATX MB, DDR SRAM 128MB PC…

I haven't had any flight sim on my machine for a little more than a year. Needed rest :-). I see that a final patch has been released (Rich, you're amazing!). And there were a few patches before that. My question, which may be too broad, is, how's it doing these days? How much of an improvement over the "release" version? And, is third party developement strong for this title? I want to reload a sim again, and wondered where Fly! was so I may decide between the two. (I still mourne for the FU series :-().Thanks for the newbie FAQ's and such. I will need that if I reload this thing.

  6. Hi All,Many of you have taken my advice to use Ad-Aware Software to remove spyware. I am now rescinding my advice for the time being. They have admitted that their engine no longer can be kept current of the latest mutations.(Last Ad-Aware Ref File Update 9/24/2002)I am recommending Spybot Search and Destroy. (FREEWARE)Available Here:http://security.kolla.de/Once Ad-Aware comes out with a newer version, I'll check it out and advise, so until then, I suggest you remove it for the time being and switch over to Spybot Search and Destroy. If you have it, do this.1) Run Ad-Aware2) Get Spybot S&D3) Tell me how many new instances Spybot picked up that LavaSoft did not.Story L…

I know this post seems a bit out of place, but I figured this would be the best place to post it. Since most of the Fly! Ontario team probably doesn't visit the Mac forum often, I had to ask here.Back in the days of Fly! 2k, when the Fly! Ontario Scenery was released, there was a problem that caused the scenery to crash near the Toronto area. This problem was specific to the mac. If I remember correctly this issue was fixed with a small patch. However, I was unable to find it in the AVSIM file library or searching the forums. If anybody could help with this, I'd really appreaciate it. Thanks,

Hi all. Here's my problem. Whenever I start up Fly!II (completely patched) in 32bit mode, I end up with an error about 30 seconds into every flight. Here is the error:DX8 3D Driver errorDrawIndexed Primitive SVertex failedI only get this when in 32bit mode, not while in 16. I have a GeForce 4 Ti4200 (64) video card and I'm not sure of the drivers that I'm running (they work for everything else and I just didn't want to mess anything up)I was just wondering if there was something I should do before I start removing Fly!II scenery, addons etc as I try to find the source of the problem.

Can any in our European Fly! community give me an idea of where to learn about European registration rules? As I create repaints for different countries, I'd like to use accurate registration numbers for each country. From what I can tell, German reg numbers start w/ "D-". How do other countries work? What about Canada? Thanks for your help.

After reading a post in the PMDG forum it convince me to re-install Fly! II. I went into the First time Fly!ers and Fly FAQ post by Ken Salter and did everything as said. I did some tweaking per FAQ to the Fly.ini and render.ini files.Im having a problem with sim crashing with a "DrawIndexedPrimitive SVertex failed" error. Can anyone here help me with this.If I select DirectX 8 T&L in the graphics option this is where it happens. Selecting DirectX 8 the graphics start to flash like crazy.Any ideas. ThanksEd

  16. Guys, sorry for all the questions, but here comes two more. Why is it that FlyII sometimes misses overlapping terrascened areas? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening. It's funny, but in my previous install, the terrascened areas worked fine. I did a reinstall, and now I am getting some areas ok, and some don't show up.My final question today...what is the most realistc zoom setting? Thanks again,Tony (desperately seeking answers in Miami)

I've uploaded a new Flyhawk repaint that should be available tomorrow. This one is for our German/European Fly!2 pilots who will enjoy an aircraft with German registration. I've also added some special touches like a photorealistic fuselage with more detailed vents, doors, etc. than the default Flyhawk. I'm also continuing to work on a Swiss repaint that I will release soon. I'm new to Fly2, and was under the impression that the night sky was supposed to feature stars, even constellations tuned to your location and date. Mine is pitch black, save for the moon. Is there a setting for stars that I'm missing? I use the "skyfire" sky color modification, but I don't imagins that should effect this issue.Any help would be appreciated, thanks!Best,Joel

Tonight I am giving my system a upgrade. The motherboard, CPU, and hard drives will be replace. About time!! Anyway, Is it possible to just copy the entire Fly2 directory over to the new drive or do I HAVE to run the install, re-apply all patches, re-install all add-ons and such? I have the entire Fly2 folder burned on a DVD disk and it would be a lot easier if all I had to do was copy it over. I'm not sure if there are any registry keys added or any supported files located in the windows folder. Anyone with some info? Thanks.PS. I really hope this is possible. I have so many addons installed I will never get Fly2 back the way it is now......

So, how here is the best place to have some help, I'm posting my specs and ini's. Maybe someone can point me from where to get some more smoothness. Shortly after Fly!2 was released, Rob Young graciously uploaded air file fixes for the Skyhawk and the Pilatus. I believe they're still available in the library. My question is, are these pods still needed, or have the recent patches fixed the issues that Rob's modifications addressed? Thanks,Dan

Rob:I am using your "Default Aircraft Fixes" version with a single POD that incorporates the added center posts and some additional changes and corrections. I enjoy all the fixes, however, I wish to remove the auto-throttle and auto-brakes visual features. Will you consider re-creating the POD file to have all the fixes EXCEPT these two visual features? Alternatively, can you tell me which files in the POD represent these visual fixes so I may un-POD the remainder of the files and use them only?Thanks.-DK----David KohlFly!
