The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Somebody help me clarify something here. A lot of the repaints of the 747-300 that are in the library at Avsim, include reference to the original Iberia 747-300. Saying that this is needed to use the repaint. Ok,try and do a search for the Iberia 747-300. You will come up with nada. I did find a Quantas Boeing 747SP that lists Roberto VIGETTI - Jean SABATIER as the authors. Is this the original that is being spoke of? Or has the original been removed? Either I'm spelling wrong or the entry into the library is listed as something else. Anybody have a correct entry or url for it? TonyFlyII! ver. 2.40Directx 8.1nVidia drivers 41.09

Fellow Fly!ers:Yesterday I received the latest issue and "our" sim was featured in several articles."The BEST of 2002" by Arthur Weiss mentions Fly! II in the G.A. Sims category, and RealAir Simulation's Citabria/Decathlon in the Aircraft Commercial Addons category..There's also a very good article -"Fly!II Freeware Focus 2002"- by Andrew Jones that points Fly! II enthusiasts to key freeware addons. It mentions Padraic's FS_Import, Scott Cannizzaro's JFK, LGA, EWR and BOS, Vin Scimon's Philadelphia skyline, ROTW's Socata TBM-700 and Boeing 707 and Georgio Gnesda's 737-500, Citation X as well as his and Jarno Denken's Piaggio Avanti P-180. Most importantly, it mentions Avs…

Hi all,I've been using MSFS for 10 (?) years (I started with the Mac version).Along the way, I've heard about other simms, but I always assumed that MSFS was the best - they surely have the money to make it the best... although sometimes they lack the brain and/or the passion.Lately I've been hearing a lot about Fly! 2. I find it fascination that a small group of people are struggling to push forward a product that rivals MS's, and I'm sure I'll join the community of Fly! 2 users pretty soon.Unfortunately, I arrive at a difficult time, with what's happening to Richard. I hope he recovers. If the product is as good as it seems by the passion it generates in this forum, it c…

I know I'm a little behind the 8-ball, but I really like the Saab 340. My problem is similar to those that installed it close to when it was issued...cntl+dn in cockpit view...CTD can't open file APSW.pbg, post #577 in archives. In topic #600, the author provided a link to a zipfile resolving this issue. Unfortunately for me, that link is no longer valid. Could someone please send me the file or upload it to the library...please?Seperate issue: I tried to do a file search in archives for Saab 340 and all I ever get is Gateway timeout. Am I doing something wrong?ThanksRobert

Now that I am decided about buying Fly2! again and reinstalling it in my PC, I would like to remember some details of the simulation, and also to check if some annoying bugs have been corrrected by the latest patch:1) Is it possible to define winds at various FLs + Ground Level? How many wind layers can be defined?2) Did the HSI get fixed in the Bell 407? Is it functional now?3) Does rain/snow affect the behaviour of aircraft on the runway? In a word... are contaminated rws simulated?Thx for your answers...

Heya,I was wondering if their were any patches or add ons for fly II that I can download that will take Fly II scenery up to that of FS2002s standards. Particuarly in Europe and Britain. I looked in the library but could not find anything. Are their any other liveries for PMDGs 757? ThanksRicEdit: Am I doing somthing wrong, why can I never find files in the library? eg. I will select 'FLY II Scenery' so that it shows all of the scenery avalable for FLYII but then I will go to a site that will link me to avsim and download a file I have never seen before!

This is not a technical support question, its a piloting question. I have been practicing manual approaches and landing on both these fine aircraft. But I notice that I cannot seem to keep the aircraft pitched at what appears to be a realistic nose-up angle during final approach. I always seem to have a significant (maybe 10-degrees) nose-up attitude for the last 20 or so miles prior to touchdown. I'm trying to drop my speed toward landing Flaps-25 or Flaps-30 REF speed so that by the time I'm about to touchdown, I have slowed appropriately. But as I transition from clean to Flaps-1, 5 and so on, the plane continues to require more and more nose-up trim to keep a reasonab…

Ken,First off I want to thank you for this file. I'm not sure if you saw a post I made 2-3 weeks ago regarding ord models referenced in dyn_kord by Javier Rodriquez. His zip file contains TM_ORD_B.S01 which references building type models at KORD. If I placed his file in DataD193160, automatic CTD. If I left this file out, I could use everthing else in his zipfile. With your ord.pod, all the models referenced in both your TM_ORD_B.S01 and Javier's are there. :-beerchug A couple of questions for you if you don't mind.1. I did a file compare of the ref. TM...S01 between yours and Javier's and found geo positions almost identical, but the Elevations and Gestalt Flags were ve…

I just upgraded my computer after two years - I decided to take a look at FLYII again with the new patch and my new computer. All I can say is WOW I am really impressed with FLYII.Now I don't mean to start a this sim vs that sim debate, but I was always dissappointed with FLYII with my old system compared to the other sims because I had to run FLYII with the sliders set back. Even with all the sliders set back I could not even use the PMDG777. I finally got a setup now that I can run FLYII with all the sliders set to MAX and the visibility set to MAX. All I can say is that FLYII is like an entire new sim. I was also very dissappointed with FLYII when used with METAR we…

All,I haven't been able to get the VFR ocean package to "animate" at all, just looks like a set pattern with some whitecaps when viewed from above. Not sure If I'm doing something wrong or if that's pretty much what it's supposed to look like. I have the water tiling set to 2 in the .ini, but haven't changed transaprency at all.My goal would actually be to achieve something like the little pic that accompanies the file on the Avsim file page (with the Bell407)- just disctinct waves without whitecaps. Animation per se isn't necessary, I imagine that it would eat some framerate, too.Any advice?Joel

hi all,I've read through a bunch of past posts that touch on the issue of zoom factors, but unfortunately I've seen a few different conclusions drawn. Is there any concensus on what zoom factor is the most "realistic" view out the cockpit windows? I would assume 1.33, being closest to a non-magnified/distorted view, but some posts say otherwise.Any definitive opinions:-)?Best,Joel

My first flights after having resintalled Fly!2 were simply astounding!!!I am really satisfied with this final patch, as well as with the very active and tallented Fly community!!!In one of my flights, and because I recalled that Fly used to display warning messages in the screen whenever the weather conditions were consistent with the formation of ice, I went to LOWI (Innsbruck) and set a negative temperature and dew point. Lifted off on the SkyHawk, climbed to alt, and then iddled the engine and started a loooong shalow descent...There were no messages, and apparently the airplane and engine were doing good, with no hint of Ice formation (?)Yes! I have set the Realism o…

This is a repost from the developer's forum.Just wanted to know if anyone in Fly II's world has ever attempted to increase the funtionality of the Peregrine's Universal FMS. If so, is there a file I could download to use more of its features? If not then would it be possible to accomplish the task of programming additional functionality. I don't have a clue about simulation programming but have used the Universal extensively on a number of aircraft I fly, and it would be delightful to see much of it functional in Fly II. Maybe one of you wizards can help by walking me through the process of bringing more, if not all of its features to life, so we can all get a little more…

I understand C4TO uses the flight plans built with Fly!2's internal flight planner. Can I get it to function with Flight plans built by FSBuild, or by the new planner by ROTW? Or for that matter, by flight plans manually modified with the PMDG flight management computers on board the 757 or 777 aircraft?-DK----David KohlFly!
