The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hello All,I'm having some trouble with the Flyhawk autopilot. First, the "NAV" setting doesn't follow a heading smoothly when set- the plane continually makes radical corrections, rocking its wings 30 degrees one way, then 30 the other,to stay on course (as opposed to its behavior on "HDG" setting, where it tracks straight and true). Does anyone else experience this behavior? Also, I can't seem to get the keyboard commands for "HDG" and "NAV" to work, only for "Autopilot Enable". Is this a known bug?I'm fully patched, though I do fly on a MAC.Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!Best,Joel

I've set all the glideslope values for EGLC to 5.5 degrees (ILS.POD) but the glideslope is staying resolutely at 3 degrees. I've tried this with both the Navajo and Hawker (Virtual CAA are at the door again :-)) but with the same result with both planes. Is there something else I need to change as I was under the impression that this had been fixed with the last patch.RegardsAndrew Luck18 miles SW EGSH

Hi, i asked a while ago what the differences between the american and european version of fly!2 are. My computer broke down and needed repair for weeks so i did not get to see your answers and the post has vanished so could you please tell me whether i am better off getting the european version of fly!2 and if so, where can i buy it from, because i can't find one single place that sells it in england, either in major games shops or major search engines on the internet. The only places that sell it online are american and i was told that the european version is better. Someone help me before i waste anymore weeks looking for the game plz. lol

I put together a couple of pages in dedication of Richard Harvey. I hope that it doesnt offend anyone. Just something I felt compelled to do. I saw a picture that was in the post of Richards last post. I took the liberty to use it. If your the person who designed it and want it removed I will do so. I'll be doing more work on it in the days to come. I threw it together in a bit of a hurry. Its not much but I wanted to do something for Richard and all of you here at Avsim.Links removed at Tony's requestTonyFlyII! ver. 2.40

I successfully converted the Norwegian Airport7 scenery for fs2002 to Fly2.This sceney contains 42 airports in Norway and it's freeware.Here are some shots.http://home.online.no/~johsvenn/artimages/div/na7a.jpghttp://home.online.no/~johsvenn/artimages/div/na7b.jpghttp://home.online.no/~johsvenn/artimages/div/na7c.jpghttp://home.online.no/~johsvenn/artimages/div/na7d.jpghttp://home.online.no/~johsvenn/artimages/div/na7e.jpghttp://home.online.no/~johsvenn/artimages/div/na7f.jpgJohnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/zone.jpg ][/div

Hi All,I use a CH ProThrottle USB (highly recommended), but it seems that I can't get the throttle to start below about 20% power (ie the lowest physical setting on my throttle movement, which should be 0, actually equals 20% on screen- and goes up from there as I push the throttle forward). This makes for some "rolling idles" and fast landings. Is there a way to adjust a control.ini or something to get the throttle to start at 0%?Best,Joel

Dear Friends,I read, and re-read all the sad replies to Rich's last post. While sad myself, I couldn't help thinking that my sadness is indeed a selfish act, bound upon what my personal feelings towards this great man enclose. After much pondering, however, I drove away the tears and started rejoicing. After all, the man I admire the most in my life, will now get the relief he was after. His pain shall stop - his family will not have to endure the everlasting moments of anguish and sadness his continuing condition had brought to him. Rich - the man I respect and admire - will now travel to his place in history, in our minds never to be forgotten. There are some peoples thro…

How can I go about altering the flight plan altitude and speed settings? When I edit them in the edit boxes, and close the dialog, it reverts to the aircrafts max alt/speed. Are there heli-pads located anywhere to land at?Thanks,Brad

In the light of much more weighty issues, this seems a bit trivial. But knowing (of) Rich Harvey, I believe he would want business as usual.I've downloaded the 240 patch, have followed the readme installation instructions to the letter but the 240 version does not show up on my Fly! ii startup screen. It still registers the old 230. What could I be doing wrong? My system:P-4 2.5+ ghzWindows XPMany thanks in advance.Ernest Waldburger

Hi all, yesterday I converted EGPH (Edinburgh) from FS2k2 to Fly2. FS-Import worked fine an the scenerey has been installed properly IMO.But while flying around the airport there is nothing to see from thescenery. Even no taxiways. Maybe it is necessary to make a clean install of Fly2 without existing Scenerys before use FSimp??Any ideas ??Thank you Olli (ETSA)System: Athlon 500Mhz 128 MB RAM GF264MB

Hi All,first of all, I should start by saying that I am really not in special need of any tweak because I am already getting very acceptable up to very good frame rates with my system and Fly2 patched upto the final patch!!!!Anyway, I am allways interested in investigating further down the details of "render.ini", and playing around with it's settings, and that is exactly why I am asking you the following:- On the TRI documentation of Fly2 there is a section devoted to the "art" of render.ini tweaking that starts by saying:===================================================================="Keep in mind that certain settings will not require changing regardless of the amo…

I came up with a better technique for colorizing satellite scenery using Terrascene. I showed some pictures of my scenery a few months ago, but today I really found a way to get the colors right. I thought I'd share a few screenshots with you folks. I'd like to release this scenery on AVSIM when I'm done, but I'm afraid the download will probably be around 200MB. What do you think the max is on a scenery for AVSIM? Here are the shots (the area is Leadville, Colorado USA):http://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...teScenery_A.jpghttp://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...teScenery_B.jpghttp://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...teScenery_C.jpghttp://home.earthli…

I just was playing around with some areas near Olympia in Seattle (customed TS + some TM packages from the file library), and ran into this error:Msg: unknown model extension (LIGHTHOUSEN.SMF,norm)File: modelmgr.cpp line 194errno = 2 (No such file or directory)I'm getting lots of these "no such file" crashes, even when I seem to have the appropriate files (as I do in this case). But I wonder if this is a clue - the place I've put above was really a bunch of non-ASCII characters, looking for all the world like a non-null-terminated string. I wonder if there's some problem managing filenames - a buffer overrun, corruption, or failure to null terminate a filename somewhere.…

The last time I used Fly!! was shortly after it's release when I was running it (or trying to) on an 866MHz system. Since then I have trashed that system and am now using a 2.4 GHz system and just reinstalled Fly!! and all I can say is WOW!!! What a difference. This sim is beautiful now and runs great, that is with one simple exception. I still can't figure out why just adding the AI aircraft to "10" can still practically slow my system to a crawl.. Is there any fix for this? If not, has there been any other add-on created that adds AI "flying" aircraft to deal with? Thanks for any and all help.Shawn
