The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

at Dutch Harbor. It looks just how I imagined! High density elevations for the Aleutian Islands (including Unalaska) are coming soon -- just as soon as I'm able to negotiate, err, try out ROTW's Pod Creator.Don

Hi to all,Today I uploaded the Yankee Delta R-7Y to the library. This plane was flown and owned by the late Yves Duval.Yves Duval was a leading figure in the french earonautical world. His profession was flying ( Airbus) , his hobby was flying warbirds, experimentals, light aircraft and aerobatics / formation flyingwith his Fouga Magister .He crashed to death with his Fouga Magister . (26th april 1998 )Two months later the Yankee Delta R-7Y crashed too in about the samedistrict (Rennes) in France.Jean Duguy and Michel Dubreuil were killed in this crash.(24th july 1998).It is a sad story about a great man , his friends and his great plane.Let`s keep the memory alive.Leen

To what degree does weather is simulated and have an effect on flight in FLY2 (aside from the obvious like visibility). Does weather have an effect on aircraft performance in general e.g changes in air temperature, humidity, precipitation etc(if these are present at all). Is there such a thing as convection currents in the sim? Does distance for take off varies with the altitude of the field (e.g. taking off from sea level compare to taking from a higher elevation). Is there a difference when taking off on a cold winter day and a hot summer day is this simulated? Just curious(forgive my lack of kowledge). chris philippines

Hy guys,This weekend I finished my Ducth Mustang. It is available at Simvol now.
-
I think I've finally mastered manually starting the Mustang. But last night, I wanted to just get off the ground to look at some scenery I created and hit the "E" key. It appears that the "E" key started and shut down the engine in one split second. I watched the screen and all the switches and guages jumped to life for a half-second, followed by them all resetting to the off position. The "hydrolic dump" sound is the last thing I heard. Since this is part of the shutdown procedures, I concluded that "E" was doing both a startup and shutdown in the same instant.Anyone else with this experience?-DK----David KohlFly! I've been toying with the ERJ-145, trying a few repaints. If I can overcome the texture mapping issue at the front door I'll finish this. I've also done some work on some Air France, British Airways and Continental Express ERJ's that will be released, pending a successful resolution to the texture issue. Here's the American Eagle.Pete

I posted in a different thread about FS Imports 1.03 causing flights to begin on the active runway instead of on the apron. I found the answer. When "taxiways" is selected during the conversion of an airport, at least with Simflyers, the taxiways that normally appear in the vector map disappear and the A/C is located on the active runway at the start of the sim. If the scenery is converted without selecting "taxiways", the Fly II taxiways appear in the scenery and also in the vector map and the flight begins on the apron. It would be nice to have the converted taxiways and keep the vector taxiways so I can start on the apron and taxi through some of these beautiful airpo…

Due to lack of space on my Avsim hangar site I have decided to shut down my Fly! section and continue the work on the Fly2 section.I'm now almost out of space and in order to provide you with the latest news and pics of the projects and addons I have to delete something....So I have puzzled with a new layout for the Fly2 site.So I want to know what you think of it so far!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e45387b61143859.jpgJohnny"I'LL BE BACK"[div align=center]http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/josve/zone.jpg ][/div

Another P51 re-paint just uploaded in the library. Tom was able to pod it before he left for his military training (let's wish Tom the best).I'm still working on the outside views for there have been some graphic issues during conversion. The default outside view was used in this re-paint. Hopefullly a version 2 will show a different re-paint for the flaps and wings.Enjoy.chris salviejophilippines

With the different re-paints coming, I guess it's fun if we have an on-line flying (just a wish)This repaint available in the library.chrisphilippines

I have TerraScened the Dallas area. I then loaded in Wayne Roberts' new DFW airport and was all ready to taxi for takeoff until my 757 simply sunk into an invisible hole in the taxiways. After experimentation, I saw this happen at several places on the way from the terminal to the runways just east of the terminal area.I attempted to use Flattenator on the raw DATA files and re-pod the area, but I'm not sure I fully understand how to use the tool, even after reading the instructions from Harald Kraft.Anyone who has used TerraScene to create ground textures and has "fixed" the area - please post help instructions. I fly (in real life) to and from Dallas every few weeks. I …

This texture probelem appears only in this specific airport CGX other FSI converted airports just work fine. Maybe another bug or render .ini issue? ANy suggested fix? Thank you.chrisphilippines

After converting Simflyer's KIAD the default KIAD airport appears along with the converted scenery. I know Alex had posted a procedure several months ago to eliminate this problem but I can't get a hit on the post by doing a search. So, Alex, or anyone else familiar with the process, would you please detail what steps are required to eliminate the default models?

I've been using the various add-on airplanes, as well as the comercial PMDG 757, and they all seem to suffer from the same problem:- Trim is completely out of sync with the visual representation of the trim scales. For instance, if you load your PMDG 757 with some passengers, cargo and fuel and check the CoG, and then the tables for trim settings that come with the manual, you'll find that the aircraft does not lift the nose of the ground unless you start trim nose up again a pulling hard on the yoke. But if you forget about the graphical (green) trim band on the pedestal, and also about the Trim vs CoG table in the Manual, and start using your rather "nose-up" trim settin…

Has anyone else been able to use version 1.03? I installed 1.03 fresh and received an error message as soon as I entered in the airport ID and selected "airport". I uninstall 1.03, reinstalled 1.02 and verified it's operation. I then installed 1.03 over 1.02 and ran into the same problem.
