The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

One of the main problems with TerraScening portions of the western coastal regions of Florida has been missing USGS land-use data for that region. The missing data leaves many of the streets of Tampa and environs under water when you attempt to TerraScene the area.Following a recent request, I have created and uploaded a TS project pack for the global tile Tampa and other area cities sit on, replacing the missing USGS data with shapefile information. All of this data is included in the pack - all you have to do is place the files and click the render button. http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e6445761c4c54cb.jpg http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e6445b…

Howdy.....everyoneJust a couple of Ideas if anyone thinks there possible??1) When certain conditions are met for eg. after 60knots and Thrust is above 70%, angle of attack is 20 degrees.........would it be possible to show a smoke trail from the engines similar to the CONTRAILS effect only a Smoke Colour (I could do the texture no problem).2) How about showing a bloom of smoke from the tyres/tires on touch-down.After seeing oil leaks/fire etc from the wings edge after a Crashed and Burned situation developed.......I just wondered whether these effects colud be amended for the above ideas. What ya 'll think??Regards John

First of all sorry guys for a really simple question.Having been a FLY! and FLYII fan until FS2002 came out when I jumped ship, I now find I want to go back to FLY2 because I am about to embark on flight training in Florida from the UK, and want the use of a more 'accurate' flight sim.I distinctly remember having some very detailed VFR areas of Florida, but can only find Terrascene files avail for FLY! for this area.My question ....Can I use these Terrascene files in the Fly! Avsim files library in FlyII ?.My main puzzlement is due to the fact I am sure I had some Florida TS files in FLY2 originally (before FS2002) or was I just dreaming. If I cant use these files, would y…

I might have mentioned it before, but this plane just rocks. Best PD aircraft I think I've ever seen. I've had lots of fun flying it around recently in instrument conditions. It's satisfyingly complicated, but not so much that you need an hour just to run through the startup checklists! It's my kinda plane really. My only minor gripe is the ground model seems wacky, but then, it seems wacky for all the Fly2 planes too, so maybe it's just a "feature" of the sim.

What the heck it is to me :-jumpyHad a spot landing contest at Blueash today 12 pilots involved from lic. PPL's to Students. Contest was: 1.)A 9" line painted 300 feet from the threshold2.)You had to reduce throttle abeam the line in the downwind leg, any throttle put back in added 50 points to your final score.3.)Landing short of the line added 100 points to your score.4.)100 point addition for 3 point landing5.) ALL landings must be FULL FLAPS6.) Your touchdown point was marked and measured from the line, 1 point added for every foot.7.) Your first landing is a mandatory practice run (no points), next three landings count. You are ONLY allowed go-arounds if there is a…

Fly2K is a good sim but what would make it great would be to interact with other real aviators and a working ATC. There doesn't seem to be a server that supports Fly2K. Any help would be greatly appreciated.thanx: Venom

Hello everybody !Many works just uploaded :-kewl VolNav beta 4 with english help. You need to download also Fly_ATSROUTE_0302.zip if you want to use airways. This ATS file will be updated monthly with NIMA DAFIF !Since last september I have tested on Simvol NIMA DAFIF data to update COMM.POD, NAVAID.POD, ILS.POD and WAYPOINT.POD every month. Now every month you'll find also on avsim update (DEX format) for these POD.I have just uploaded complete POD with DAFIF data from January. I created empty POD and apply data from NIMA so there are not any old data in this POD. I upload also update (DEX) for february. And soon update for March ;) Didier RigaultROTW Team

KDET RWY 25/07 appears skewed relative to an airport diagram I printed from EchoFlight and a USGS map (see attached pic 1). The taxiways are the default ones located in systemtaxiways.pod as well as taxiwaystaxiusa.pod.Through Terramodels program, I overlayed the runways with both the airport diagram and the map. It appeared to me that the taxiways are more correct than the runway locations. So off I went to fix the runways. After several attempts using Terramodels, I could not get the runways to line up close enough to the taxiways. My next path was to start fly, slew to the high and low ends of the runway, visually lining up the center of the runway with the yellow taxiw…

I just reconfigured my system and fly2 seems not to save my CH yoke and pedal settings. Everytime I fire up FLY2 I have to set again the yoke and pedal in the "setup axes FLY2 window". I have 2 hard drives FLY 2 resides in the second hard drive and the first hardrive is my OS. The first HD is Partitioned as Primary and Logical while the second is a Primary hd. I never have this problem before when FLY2 resides in the first HD. Any help will be appreciated.chrisrpll

Hi Steve, Guys,A while ago I created some NEW Runway and Taxiway lights textures and created an effect which shows the lights submerged into the aprons along with a Light cast on the ground. All the lights are relative to each other in order of size, However although I'm pleased with the result theres just one more thing I would like to add that would really add to the overall effect.Would I need is someone to produce the Approach Light Stanchions. There would have to be three in total each one slightly smaller than the previous one. If anyone could get a brite light on their aswell then that would be fantastic.Ive attached some pics to hopefully show you what I mean.…

or what's left of it after a little boo boo. Thing that really bites is the FBO just went thru this plane the end of fall and about redid the whole thing. http://bartsflyplace.tripod.com/3xp.jpg Student pilot was doing touch and goes Wed. night at Blueash, tried to climb out to steep while "going" after a "touch", got into a departure stall about 30-40 feet off the ground, stalled the right wing (BIG reason to keep that ball centered, especially on climbout), right wingtip contacted the runway...slung him into a snowbank off the side of the runway that ate the nosewheel and the rest of the front of the plane...FAA inspector said another 10-20 feet up and he would've b…

You will have to excuse the quality of the images. My video card is an Antique 32MB Rage Fury.As you can see in the attached images, Downtown Vancouver has been moved to its proper location. The coastline and Fraser River are much improved and Stanley Park is more recognizable and now includes Lost Lagoon and Beaver Lake. False creek can be seen to the right of the downtown along with a more refined waterfront.Sea Island and Iona Island are now connected with a strip of land. The taxiways at CYVR are the best ever and Runway 26A is now where it belongs. The Main Terminal is Andrew Farnaby's from Fly! 1.0, with a TRI firehall off Taxiway J and a few other TerraModel b…
