Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I've asked this a couple of times before without getting any suggestions but I'll give it one more shot! When I try to install the 1.52 to 2.10 patch for Fly!II I get an error message saying that "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match". And then the patching process quits. At that point it seems like it's the ntpath.pyc file that it tries to patch.Has anyone else had this problem and found a remedy? I get the error having done a fresh install of Fly!II (and not installed on the computer before). I also tried downloading the patch again and running it but to no avail. Strange thing is that I used to r…

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.He answered by saying that, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."It became very quiet in the roomc ya :-waveBart [email protected]://bartsflyplace.tripod.com/pics/ryans...ight/flight.gif http://bartsflyplace.tripod.com/bart_logo3.jpg

David Kohl got me thinking about the PMDG implementation of night lighting and I thought I'd dig into things a bit. Guess what? I've partially figured out how this works in Fly!II! You need to add several lines to the lod file as follows: ---- night-time models ---- ---- begin models ---- ---- model entry ---- comp VirginAtlantic7473HM5.acm 200 ---- model entry ---- nitA VirginAtlantic7473HM5.acm 200 ---- model entry ---- nitB VirginAtlantic7473HM6.acm 200 ---- model entry ---- nitC VirginAtlantic7473HM7.acm 200 ---- model entry ---- nitD VirginAtlantic7473HM8.acm 200 ---- model entry ---- comp VirginAtlantic7473HM5.acm 25 ---- …

He's a very well known developer of a great FLY2 addon. When I learned that he could not fly FLY2 becasue of his very old system, I sent him a motherboard with a very powerful cpu. He, however, has informed me that his power supply will not handle it. I suspect that his video card and possibly very old memory will not cut it, too. Since some(like I did) of us upgrade regularily, I am asking if anyone has these spares. He's currently without a job and finances are tight. We have been using his program and I simply feel that he, too, should be enjoying FLY2. I am going to keep the name private, but if some of you can help, simply ask him to e-mail you. thanks.tony

Pete:Would you consider "re-painting" the stock Continental, Delta, United and VC-32 aircrat PMDG supplied so that the textures all work correctly at night?Right now, when switching to night textures, the stock repaints show remnants of the Delta body when lights are not on. Hello everyone,I've uploaded version 3.1 of the C4TO.DLL. [before anyone jumps all over me and tells me that any of the following is not realistic, let me say that I fully comprehend this. The solutions that I'm presenting are the best that I can come up with given the limitations of using a flight simulator. There is no Fly! II database that has all of the required data for me to know the geometry of controlled airspace. Consequently, I am making the assumption that the floor of a center controller's airspace is always airport elevation + 4000. That said, I am willing to accept suggestion and/or corrections if an acceptable alternative approach/assumption would work. So,…

After so many night flights out of ORD, I decided to make some new scenery that looks more like the real nighttime Chicago. Streets and roads there are brightly and evenly lit with sodium lights, which makes for a pretty bright city zone at night. My POD covers the area from north Chicagoland down to Gary Indiana, and west a bit past ORD. The download would be about 66mb of course!

Potentially a silly question - I've been flying both of these aircraft on Fly!II for quite some time now and I notice that when at altitude at an acceptable rate of speed, the nose seems to be pointed up even though the trim indicator arrow is below the middle marker. Is this normal? Do these aircraft fly like that in real life? Or is it just me thinking they're not level when they actually are?Hmmmm... any help would be appreciated. It's not drastic, but makes me curious!:-hahJohn Bauder @ KLGA/KJFKFly!2K MAC& PCFly II PC [email protected]

After finding no help in the archives concerning airport beacons, I gotta ask. Why don't I have any beacons at any airports? And when I manually place a beacon and try to save it (using builtin scenery editor), it's gone when I run Fly again. (Also can't move and save objects that are appearing, such as the bridges around San Francisco that are just slightly out of place).Any advice? Would reinstalling help? I've updated Fly over the years through the original TRI patches to .250, little by little. It'd be nice to have a more realistic beacon model, too; something like a single steel pole. And of course, if beacons could be visible from 20 miles out...!

On www.altivista.com there are numerous free online language translation sites. Do a search by typing the word "translate" and the language that you want to translate from. Fly! fans who don't speak or read French can still visit www.simvol.org ,copy a block of text and translate it from French to English (or some other language). Here's the site that I have used. http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trBlake
