Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Just sent this one off to the server. This is my home airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. With the other 4 airports I have uploaded you can plan a nice little airport hopping VFR trip. One that I like to fly sometimes is to take off from ISZ and head 270, in 18 miles you'll see Miami Whitewater lake under you, Cincinnati West (I67) is about 3 miles west of the lake. From there tune 260 on the ADF and head for the Hamilton NDB...once at the NDB turn 110 for an NBD approach into Hamilton-Fairfield (HAO). Do a bump and slam (not much to see at HAO) and tune 239 on the ADF, (HOOK NDB), when at the NDB turn 058 for an NBD approach into Middletown-Hook Field (working on this one …

  7. I've posted in the Screenshot Forum. Just click on the links below.New TerraScene project packs for the East and southeast areas of Ohio and beyond are now ready for upload. I should have them up by tomorrow morning. Here's a chart of the project packs that will be available: http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/5999.gif The Akron tile covers an area from Akron/Canton in the NW south through New Philadelphia all the way to Wheeling, WV in the SE. In the far east, it includes all of the Pittsburgh Intl. environs.http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=39874&page=The Parkersburg tile includes the very SE portion of Ohio, along with Parkersburg, WV and extend…

Due to a request, I have taken a brief hiatus from the Ohio Project and added one global tile to the north of the Toledo global tile of that project. The Toledo tile extends into the southern part of the City of Detroit - the Detroit tile continues up the Detroit River from the northern tip of Grosse Ile through most of Belle Isle. The top tip of Belle Isle is cut off before the entrance to Lake St. Clair, but combined with the Toledo pack, will give you most of the City of Detroit. The Detroit global tile extends to the north through Flint and as far south as Ann Arbor, including DET (Detroit City), DTW (Detroit Metro Wayne County), Detroit Willow Run, Oakland (Pontiac) a…

adding Ranger Creek airport to the Fly!II database? I'll supply all of the information needed if anyone would like to tackle it. As payment, I'd be willing to package and upload all of my Terramodels sceneries for California, Washington St. and Kansas. At last count, I had 65 airports TM'ed. I also have taxiways for most of Alaska, at least the airports that have taxiways that is.. :DI'd try it myself, but it has been such a long time since my Fly!II crashed, that I'm a little nervous. I've added so much stuff over the last few months that I'f afraid that I'm going to be pushing it if I try to edit databases.Anyone want to help me out?If not, that is okay too.Pieter

I am in my 60s.Held a PPL during the 1970s with ratings for a number of single engine aircraft. Did some aerobatics in a C150aerobat.Became too expensive and gave it up.Advised by an airline pilot to take up simming.I did, tried PP99,FU2&3,FS 98,2000, Fly and Fly2. I have been using PP99 mainly because of computer limits but have since upgraded and can run Fly 2 satisfactorily.I must admit I am getting hooked on this sim.I have installed all patches and most of the bells and whistles.I have downloaded the Citabria to try some aerobatics. Its like turning the clock back. There are however a few things someone may be able to help me with.1 Log book. Although the file …

The FBO I fly out of at Blueash got the new Katana DA-20 C1 in, I LOVE THIS PLANE!! Took the old CFI (Brian) along for a checkout ride in the Katana last night. Preflight was pretty easy. Record the "YUK" HOBBS meter, check the AROW, remove the string wrapped around the stick tied to the panel that serves as the control lock, check the wing spar temperature gauge nestled behind the seat cushion, if it displays a black 55 on a red background you have to leave the canopy open to cool off the wing spar, otherwise it'll melt and the wings will fall off!! :), clear the prop area and turn on the master switch. Cycle the flaps down, center the electric trim by using the light…

I really enjoy flying the P51, but can't seem to get a straight (and safe) takeoff. I am constantly rolling off the side of the runway as soon as the tail wheel raises. I've not mastered landing, although I've gotten pretty good at a controlled stall with a quick settling of the rear wheel on the surface. But takeoff continues to elude me.Help with this important phase of flight is appreciated. Thanks.-DK----David KohlFly! 18. With a little PhotoShop elements, I reduced the size of the sun visors on the Pilatus. It works well on my system and provides more visual room out the front window while still maintaining the realistic "tight" cockpit feel. Before I package it up and post it to AVSIM, can some folks try out the two small attachments at http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...2365&page=#2458. Just place them in the ART folder.Feedback is also appreciated, although I am not very expert yet with PhotoShop elements so I am limited in my real artistic capabilities. Finally, thanks to Spellbinder for the original artwork.Thanks. -DK----David KohlFly! Hi folks. I've made good progress on the forward view of my Lancair Columbia 300 panel, but I'm seriously lacking other interior pictures. I don't have any pictures of the side views, seats, rear or upper views. These planes are still rare so I haven't seen many around here. I know that Lancair is going to be showing their aircraft at Oshkosh, so I thought I'd ask if anyone here is going this year. I know its late because it starts tomorrow, but its worth trying. And if anyone has access to one of these planes and could take a few pics, I'd greatly appreciate it. Their factory is in Bend, Oregon -- anyone live nearby? I should mention that the interior for these p…

I see that FSi will update the Fly!II databases when importing FS2k2 scenery, but will it only update addon FS2k2 sceneries? For instance, I want to get Ranger Creek in Washington St. into Fly!II, if I get some 3rd party scenery that add's buildings etc to the default Ranger Creek in FS2k2 and then import it into Fly!II, will the runway information, airport ID etc show up in Fly!II? Or, does it have to be a complete new airport in FS2k2 for the Fly!II database to be updated? Compounding on that question, seeing as FS_import can update Fly!II data, what is stopping us from importing all of the airports in FS2k2 into Fly!II? Okay, maybe now all, but would there be anyway…
