The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I just helped my father install Fly!II on his iMac. Never knew what we were missing in PC land! His came with a manual and three CD's, one for the program, one for scenery, and one with all kinds of sectionals and charts. I took this CD home but my PC won't open it. My question is could I make a zip file of his map folder and put it in my map folder for the PC or are there differences in these file types, or do I also have to edit other files to utilize these maps? If someone else has tried this and been successful, please tell me.Zane

I was wondering anyone knows if there any prodjects concerning mid to light twins as a replacement for the Navjo? I just read the thread on the Navajo and trted it my self. It looks rather help less. But if their is a twin in the works that could replace it that would be good to hear! If it's a suprise, I will understand.

I am beta testing a program that will automatically update metar files and save them in the metar folder in FLY2. So this file, at least, will update weather automatically every 10 minutes. The question is how do we get FLY2 to automatically scan the updated file. Ideally, we need a small dll to look at the aiport that fly2 happens to be near and read the updated metar file. A routine that loads the entire file will pause FLY2 too long. How about it? David S., where are you?tony

I know I haven't been in here for a long time. I've been using "the other sim" mostly for the last few months. But today I installed a new video card and of course I wanted to make sure that Fly!2 ran with this new card. I loaded it up and took off from San Francisco in the Skyhawk. I was flying towards the Bay bridge when I decided to divert over to Oakland, across the water from SF. I landed with no trouble and was aimlessly following the taxiways trying to find the parking area. :-( (The airport isn't exactly built up.) Anyway I was taxiing along minding my own business when I saw directly in front of me some moving objects. At first, I thought something was wr…

About 10 minutes into a VFR flight climbing at 700fpm I get this message, " Can't load texture OSPREY. File not found. " I'm using the default aircraft. Flying from KHMZ to KCBE to practice navaids and holding patterns. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm new at this. I have build 2.5.240 loaded.

I'd like to make a new Terramodels border object, just like a fence, except 50 feet high with tree textures. This will produce 2D tree rectangles suitable for lining airport boundaries...Does anyone know how Terramodels creates fence objects? Thanks,Eric

I am posting here to get Mr. Salter's attention cause I'm getting an error message I think is related to scengen. I installed scengen per instructions and it worked on the first flight from KMYF to KDVT... saw trees, no houses though. Then I flew from KDVT to KLAS, it worked again but pulling off the runway at KLAS I got the message in the attached jpg file. This morning I built a flight from KLAS to KMOD and upon trying to load this adventure file get the same message. When I move all the scengen files to the scengen folder (out of the modules and root folders so they should be inactive) I can load the adventure but the adventure loads very fast and there is no local…

Since I've managed to get this simulator program working and not crashing (the computer, not the plane) mid-flight I now am discovering other curiosities. I'm running version 250.240 with the globe update, Jure's cbclouds and cbbroken for clouds (followed his instructions for install), vfr ocean, winds aloft, flight plans by FSBuild 1.40 and Infometar (latest download) with autoweather... I followed Ken Salter's instructions pretty much to the letter. I'm using the built in ATC which does a nice job on the ground and through departure, but when in mid-flight when asked to contact center, I change to requested frequency (either manually or automatically) and there is no …

HI people, Winch here I just bought fly-2 and am wondering if I got thefull package! It was in what appeared to be a sealed box.The contents were 1 cd-rom in a jewel case sealed in plasticwith the same picture as on the box, and a 38 page book. The reason I ask is I'm not finding some of the things I'mreading about in some posts like sky tweaker. In fact there is no sky.ini file in my system folder! I've tried puttinga downloaded sky.ini file in my system folder, and changingallowskytweaker=1 in fly.ini but the sky does'nt change!I'm using the .240 patch. Did I get some short version of Fly 2, did I get screwed onthis deal? I was told it was the full product! Help!…

The next segment of the Carolinas Project is finished. Including the City of Charleston, the coastline continues to just south of Myrtle Beach. As a great deal of the global tile was water, the entire tile compressed to a reasonable amount when zipped up, so I will be uploading two versions. There will be a finished version zipped to about 75 MB, and a project pack, compressed to about 25 MB. http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/11229.jpg

Hi Guys & Lindy ;-) Just a quick hello to you all after my short vacation. We had a great time in Venice, sadly I didnt get to see Giorgio as he is still in Spain through work obligations. Though we did send a few SMS's a few times a day.The flight from Manchester EGCC To Marco Polo LIPZ took 1h:55mins hardly a flutter over the Alps flying at 37000ft.My little girl aged 3 was peeled to the window loving every minute of it.It was spooky seeing the Smokestacks in real life, made by Daniele Tona for Fly!II, as we were landing into LIPZ it gave me a big smile on my face, my wife now thinks I need medication as I got all excited over them???Ha ha maybe I do!!!Steve. (Smokes…
