The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I have been notified that the Brunwick tile TS pack has a missing data error similar to the situation with the Wilmington pack. In the same manner as the Wilmington situation, this is an issue with missing data at the USGS site - there is nothing wrong with the pack.If your system needs to be logged in for Internet access, simply log in before rendering this pack. TerraScene will find all files present except for an hydrography file for Wassau Sound - TS will then attempt to download the file itself, find that it doesn't exist, report an error, and continue the render. The scenery should come out fine.

Watch out for an error situation when rendering with my Wimington TS scenery pack. TerraScene will be expecting some data for Cape Fear - the Cape Fear data does not exist. I'm guessing this is one of those rare errors by the USGS - their online folder for this area is empty, so when I created the original pack, TS gave me an error report on the missing file and the scenery was rendered properly without further incident.Even though every (available) file is included with the pack, TS still expects to find this file. When it can't locate it, it goes online (or will attempt to go online) to obtain it. If your system does not have full time Internet access, I would recommend…

Hallo folksAfter simming with the Navajo succesfully, I am trying to fly the Hawker800.There are two things ( and probably more )I can`t figure out. I can`t use the radar/map function and radr/VP function.Turning the switch at the left side-panel has`nt any effect.Even with the switch in the OFF position the radarscreen stays alive. How can I use GPS funtions.Should they be available at the Universal Flight Management System? If yes. how does it work.Is there a special Handbook for the functions above.GreetzLeen de JagerThe Netherlands

Covering global tile 200,154, the Elizabeth City tile pack is ready for upload. This tile includes a short amount of coastline which ties into the Wilmington area. The rest of the tile includes towns like Goldsboro and Kinston.Over Kinston, NC: http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/13438.jpg The next tile(s) will continue the coastline north through Cape Hatteras. The link below is a shot of the coastal area of the Elizabeth City tile, showing part of the Outer Banks.

The next cog in the Carolinas project continues up the coast from the Charleston global tile, running from Georgetown, SC in the south through Myrtle Beach in the north. Lake Moultrie lies in the SW quadrant of the tile (the lake is so large that a portion of it is in the Charleston tile, with another branch in a tile to the west), and Florence lies in the western portion.Over Myrtle Beach airport and city area: http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/11855.jpg I will be uploading the project pack this evening. Here are a couple more shots:1. Georgetown area2. Over Lake Moultrie

as detailed as the FLY2 ones. I've managed to change the texture of some from 1024 to 800, which then does not create a frame hit, especially in outside view. But I am curious to know the connection between AI models and the others. thanks.tony

Hello all,I started playing around with the Pilatus cause I want to use the EFIS gauges in the King Air. The manual explains some functions that just don't seem to work in the actual program. The HSI 360 is non-functional, the arc mode button cycles through all of these views, the TCAS and weather display don't come up at all, appears the buttons don't work (I am curious if it is just a matter of a bitmap link missing in the pnl file). I tried a search in the file library and the forum for all Fly related topics and found nothing regarding these questions. Can anyone help me?Zane

G'day Bob,I've been following your posts with Steve re around the world flights and saw that you thought it would be a good idea to meet people online as you fly through. Why don't you use the multi-player server? You could post your flight plan times on the forum and meet people in the air as you go. I've just come off the multi-player server and boy is it lonely there.Use it or lose it. Sooner or later someone will pull the plug on the multi-player server if we don't use it!Cheers mate; sorry you are not flying to Australia ( don't know what you're missing! :-) )Cheers,Roger @YSSY

I'm new to FlyII and am very excited by the realism of the simulator.I just purchased a ATI Radeon 9000 video card. FlyII, however, doesn't run correctly with this card. The graphics appear incomplete, flashing and out-of-place especially from external views. My computer is a PIII 800mhz with 300+mb of ram. I have all the patches as of March of this year. Can anyone help solve this problem? Thank you.Henry C. Buursma

Hi Everyone,I thought I'd have ago at creating some textures for American Airlines aircraft (not as easy as I thought). Although I've still got a bit of tidying up to do, these are about the best metal effects I can do......anyway I thought you may like to see the results.Regards John

The only thing that seems to work is to place the *.tms and *.bgr files directly into the Data folder. What not seems to work is:- To place these files in a subfolder of the Data folder- To place these files in a subfolder of the Taxiways folder- To pod the files and to place the *.pod file in the DatafolderI would like to have an oversight of these files, so I would like to place the files of a certain country together in a separate file or subfolder.Any suggestions how to do this?

I have read the earlier posts regarding the shakes and changing the CG settings. I always load out the aircraft with my weight 196 as pilot, my wife 124 copilot seat and either our baggage, about 71 in the rear or some guests in the rear seats and additional baggage.Where I notice the jiggles is after climbing out at 120 indicated, when you level off and accelerate through 140 or 145, after that indicated airspeed the sim smoothes out. When viewed from the outside the elevator appears to be shaking. Is there a way to dampen this movement? My thought is something in the configuration makes for an elevator flutter to occur as these airspeeds are passed through.Zane

Hi,I read a couple of posts about this, but none of them seems to have the teh same sympthoms I'm experiencing. I'm running XP Pro edition and FLY2 patched to the latest version. When starting Fly on a very scenery populated (resource demanding) airport, like Heathrow of Orly, the frame rate is too low. At some places it takes even a couple of seconds to switch from a view to another. Changing to an external camera and moving around is too slow. Going back (when all object have cached, I believe) is pretty smooth.Of course, approaching a complex airport is a bit of pain because of the frame rate. If I switch to desktop and back to Fly, the slow rate issue disappears (apar…

Using CL4TO on a flight into EWR yesterday I was directed to runway 22R and I noticed the ILS information for runways 22L and 22R is reversed. Usually the Fly II ATC had me use runway 27 so I've never noticed this before. I'm wondering if it has always been this way or if I screwed up the database for EWR by improperly using FSImports when I converted Simflyer's EWR. Can someone verify this?

I've used TerraModels in the past to liven up some of my local airports and had no problems downloading USGS images for use. However, yesterday I tried a couple of times to download USGS images for two different airports and was unable to do so. Each time I got the "Unknown URL error=302" message and the download never occurred. Has the USGS changed its URL so TerraModels now can't find it? How do I get the two back in sync? Thanks in advance,Jim
