The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi,This might seem strange but from time to time I have a problem with missing runways. I noticed this a couple of times, approaching and airport, can't see the runway. Can see the taxiways, buildings, even the 'grass' textures but no runway. This happend to me with Biggin Hill and London City last night. If I start fly on these airports, everything is alright. When I land on the missing RWY and teleport to the same airport, the RWY is visible as normally.Any idea what it may be?Rene S.FLYII, patched to .240, G-Force2 64MB, XP, P4 1.7GHz 512RAM

With all of Wayne Roberts' Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire scenery, I've tried to TerraScene a lot of the northeast USA. But I keep butting up on Canadian land and get the ugly grey abyss - I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. When you finish the Carolina's (which I think are great, by the way), maybe you could find the time to work on the borders between Niagra Falls in New York, all the way up to the tip of the Atlantic ocean at the Canadian border.Looking forward to it.-DK----David KohlFly! I scored big time. Went to Fry's yesterday and they had a refurbished 21" Dell Monitor (Trinitron!) and for my new enhanced viewing pleasure I upgraded my MX420 (actually a PCI card) for a TI4200 w/128 megs DDR ram. FlyII is no problem now, visibility to 60 miles, med density to 20 miles (I think that's the highest setting) and high density to 5 miles. The visuals are just incredible... I'm so stoked! An interesting discovery, C4TO version 3.31 (the most current update) is working without a glitch. With the older card I would frequently get center radio changes and the autotune would not function until after checking in... Interesting.Zane

For all of you that have already downloaded and generated from my original Elizabeth City TerraScene Pack - don't worry! Your scenery will generate and load just fine. However, I must have been half-asleep when I made the pack - the area is not Elizabeth City! It had been mis-typed on my globe tile chart and I copied the error during its manufacture! :-roll If you want to be accurate, change your folder name that contains the scenery pod and SCF file to Kinston. If some of you teleported to the Elizabeth City airport expecting to see new terraScene in the area, you now know why you didn't! :-lol I will have the library managers pull the mis-named Elizabeth City project …

This beautiful coastal/outer banks area of North Carolina is now finished in TerraScene project pack form. Covering 1 1/2 global tiles, it picks up the NC coastline at Atlantic Beach, then continues north through Morehead City, New Bern, Bayboro, Cherry Point and the Pamlico River. To the east, it continues out over Pamlico sound to Cape Lookout, then proceeds north to Cape Hatteras, including Ocracoke, Buxton, and Avon.Over Beaufort, with a portion of the outer banks in the distance http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/14095.jpg In order, the links below contain the following images:-Ocracoke Island-Cape Hatteras-Pamlico Sound-New Bern

And what did I do? I tried the multi million dollar Sikorsky S61N simulator at our training center. They had an open spot for me today.Nice to have friends working there. And what an experience! After flying the 407, and my own projects for FlyII for a long time now, it was time to see if they could be compared to the real thing, and also get experience how to tweak them for most realism.Well into the dark cockpit I tried to start engine one,but failed several times.Suddenly everything went black, and the emergency lightscame on.The battery had drained. On with external power, and both engines started OK.Standing on RWY 18 at ENZV and all systems workingI tried to pull some col…

in Fly!2k, there was a key combination that brought up a little mini-panel. Is there such a thing in Fly!II? Also, I hate to complain about Fly!II as I really do enjoy it. But, when I "scroll" my head to the starboard side of the default 172 I feel like I'm sitting on the floor. How can you fly a right hand traffic pattern when you can't see out? Is there anyway to get rid of the interior bmp's, or are there any replacement bmp's that make it a little more easy to look out? Thanks for any replies.Pieter

Any chance you can update your KSJC to eliminate the black ground areas that "flash" when flying over? Also, Moffet field would be nice including the very large hangers - such landmarks when driving on 101 North. BTW: You'll have to fill in the ground a bit around Moffet. In the default San Fran ground scenery that comes with Fly!2, there is a "suburban homes" texture on the ground. FYI.Thanks.-DK----David KohlFly! II v2.5.240Dell 8200 P4/1.8G, 1024MB RAM, Nvidia GF4 Ti4600 v41.09, WinXP Home Edition SP1.CH Pro Pedals and Yoke USB.

I noticed the age old "floating" problem again. Here I am at the end of Rwy 24 at Cincinnati Blue Ash airport in Ohio. I am perfectly situated at the 6 end of the runway right centered, but as you can see from the outside views, I'm actually floating in mid-air. I have TerraScened the Cincinnati area and am using Wayne's Blue Ash airport.Any ideas?BTW: I noticed this too at HPN (White Plains, NY), another airport I have TerraScened and TerraModels from Scott Cannizaro (NYCFlyer).Help appreciated. I read through other posts about "flattening" the ground, but have no idea how to actually do it, nor do I understand why this is happening. -DK----David KohlFly! II v2.5.240Dell…
