Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

  2. Hi,When I take off from certain airports and especially from "home-made" airports, the runways, taxiways and tarmacs seem to disappear in external view whereas I can see them in internal view. Moreover, the runways, taxiways and tarmacs seem to move with the aircraft.If you want to test, download the marvellous French airports created by the ROTW nice team. Three of them have this problem : St-Val

    I started playing with the existing panels, the hawker for example, and realized that they can be touched up for more realistic looking cockpits. Shading, new colors and other non-function critical items are all candidates. I am not good with painting, but a little patience and perceverance yield some interesting results. With shading and lighting, the cockpits can be customized for different aircrafts. The window center post in the pic is the one I've made for the erj-145, a wonderful plane that comes with the FLY2 default panel. Notice the worn look and the rounded edges on the main panel. These are not finished, but show the potential. So get some paint and make new pa…

  5. Hi,I'm looking for a good panel for these aircraft : B737-500, B747, DC9-30 and B727-200.I know that most of these aircraft have their own panel but for example, I can't set altitude, vertical speed and speed for the B737-500 and DC9-30 series.Please could you tell me where I can find a good panel or how to set both altitude and vertical speed with the default panels ?Please keep me posted about it.Regards,;-)Damien BRUNET.e-mail : [email protected]

    Hi Steve, First thankyou for the superb sceneries you have already done & that I really enjoy. Being an ex patriot from Kent I wonder if you could model London Manston airport, it does seem to be getting a new lease on life in the last few years.Also I am having a problem with your new Scatsta EGPB, it is looking for a model called CRU.SMF, I suspect this might be in the Bibers newships pod that your readme says we need but I can't find it at AVSIM library, could you let me know where I could find this Pod? Thanks in advanceDesmond

    Put together an animation of some pics my wife took when we landed at Gatlinburg. The second frame looks a bit off center due to the slip with 40 degrees of flaps I had goin on to drop in past the trees at the end of the runway :)...love it when the elevator starts to take on a life of it's own from the vortices coming off the flaps! http://home.fuse.net/bartsflyplace/landing_small.gif c ya :-waveBart [email protected]://bartsflyplace.tripod.com/bart_logo3.jpg

    Do the following:.Start Fly!II, say, at KSFO..Choose the Aurora B200.Unload any weight (even the pilot seat).Set Fuel quantity to 181 gal.Just start engines.Set FULL flaps.Set full throttle and take off.Just after take off, CUT OFF ENGINES (AND THROTTLE) AND FEATHER PROPS..NOW YOU CAN CLIMB AS LONG AS YOU WANT, DESPITE THE STALL WARNING!!! THE AIRPLANE ACCELERATES WHILE CLIMBING!!!I really love this wonderful sim, but I have to admit this flaw really disappointed me... :(((

    G'day all,Rummaging through my files I came across this touch up repaint, of Jean Sabatiers lovely B707 model 320B, that I did some time ago. Spent half my working life maintaining these aircraft so I have a real soft spot for this type. Pic attached. It may be a while before it is processed and available for downloading.Cheers,Roger @YSSY

    The Spartanburg area global tile TerraScene pack is finished - I hope to have the render pack uploaded later this evening. This tile includes Greenville and Spartanburg, SC, adjoining the Johnson City tile on its southern border. It continues south to Anderson, SC and a portion of Hartwell Lake to the SW. In the NW, you have Asheville Regional Airport and the city of Asheville, NC tucked within mountainous terrain.East of Asheville, NC: http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/22962.jpg The links below are:1. Phantom is a memory resident, file infecting virus. It infects .COM files. Although it does not infect COMMAND.COM Upon infection, the Phantom virus becomes memory resident at the top of system memory but below the 640K DOS boundary. Infected systems have interrupts 20 and 21 hooked by the virus. Once memory resident, the Phantom virus infects .COM files as they are executed or opened if the original file length is greater than 2K.Additional Comments:The Phantom virus was isolated in Hungary in January, 1991, by Dr. Szegedi Imre. This virus is a memory resident infector of .COM files, but not COMMAND.COM. The first time a program infected with the Phantom virus is execute…

    Hi,I have been messing around with the Kodiak POD file and lost it somewhere. Can somebody zip it from his FLY2 installation and send it to me? OR, as I have unpodded the plane, a list of files and directories would be OK. I have it flying so must have all the files.Thanks.Rene S.

    Hello to all!Well my problem is as follow; I need a calculator that will tell me the speed I need to fly X distance in Y time. There is a maximum of 250 kts at or under 10,000 ft, so this has to be calculated apart from the crussing speed. Than means that climb and descent at or onder 10000 ft has to be at or under 250kts. Do you know a formula or shareware calculator to do this?Thank you all;
