The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Here are a couple of shots of my first test-render of the Sedona area. I've been trying to get that deep red coloration that's so much a part of Red Rock, Sedona, and the Grand Canyon by using some of the base textures. This isn't bad, but it's just not red enough! Back to the drawing board - it's custom texture time. The airport visible in the shots is Sedona (KSEZ) with airport scenery by Wayne Roberts. As you can see, the airport is up on a plateau. http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/24492.jpg http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/24495.jpg

Anyone else have this problem? I have CH usb pedals and usb yoke, the toe brakes work fine at startup and for taxi/aborted takeoff but after flying, when I land I have no toe brakes. I haven't tried pressing the "B" key yet, will try when I get home. Why would I have brakes until flying?Zane

Hello, Finished with my repaint and improvements to the PC12. I wanted to add more realism to the electrical system by adding the tags and values in the Pilatus.amp file. So far its not working, even modifying the default values for amps and volts doesn't make a difference. The .NFO file references the new name for the .amp file, are there others? I have some of the values, they were provided by Alejandro along with his flap indicator fix. Also, is there a way to fix the anomoly where the battery shows a higher load until the engine starts, then no load until the generators are turned on which then shows a lower value?JamesHmmm... G'day all,I'm at the stage where I'm trying to sqeeze every last fps possible out of my aging ( well it's reached it's first birthday :-) ) 64 Mb Geforce 2 GTS PRO video card.At the startup graphic screen in Fly! II is a check box - environment mapping. Can anyone please tell me what this is/does. I have tried Fly! II with it both checked and unchecked and apart from gaining about 3 fps with it unchecked can't see any visible difference??. I must admit to wearing reading glasses. My eyes aren't as young as they used to be. :-)Is anyone using an Nvidia Geforce FX - 5600 (256 Mb) video card. I'm seriously thinking of upgrading but after the MX - 200 and MX - 400 confusio…

For some reason, all of the images from my original post on this have been deleted. Here are the missing images....looking south from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport area. The South Mountain park area is desert texture and came out fairly well. The city streets have a little too much green in them, but there is no other texture available from the base pack to convert to - you will note that suburban textures are nice and brown, however, as they should be. The agricultural areas are much browner in texture and work well, I believe. http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/23979.jpg The links below should give you a more well-rounded view of the area:1. Over the Mazatzal Wilde…

I have new render packs tested for the American Southwest - specifically the Phoenix, Arizona area. The new render pack was compiled from the existing base textures. Though there are a few textures I wished were better, overall, the result is close to the real world. In this shot we are looking south from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport area. There are two "bugs" in the Pilatus. I completely lack the skills to fix this, so I was hoping someone might be able to take over the project.First, the "flap speed warning" light appears to stay lit inappropriately. Some combination of using internal panel lights and cabin lights turns it off, but then I have not noticed it functioning at all when its supposed to (flap speed exceeded).Second, I learned last week that the propeller speed is supposed to be constant at 1700 RPM, but that the plane take input from my CH Pro Yoke prop control (thus enabling an adjustment up or down that is not realistic). I searched through some of the files, but couldn't figure out how to re…

I have recently downloaded C4TO and the latest patch. It is a great program and I havn't experienced any problems as such. However all approaches so far have been visual using "Alt Home "following a series of 180deg turns. Thats fine but I would like to experience vectors using an ILS approach under this program. The destination A/P for this testing is KSFO. I have tried flying IFR with ceiling down to 800' thinking that the weather may make a difference. Is it something I have missed in the readme?

Checking my uploads of the Phoenix Repair Kits, I noticed some ommissions and slight errata in the Readme files that might cause confusion. For both repair kits: You would, of course, choose the Phoenix project file for rendering, not "Knoxville". :-)Repair Kit #2: Be sure to copy both repair kit's output folder contents into TerraScene before rendering.I'll upload a small doc with this info tonight as an addendum - I figure this would be better than uploading everything again and removing the old simply because I'm a lousy proof-reader!

I'm currious. Just what all is involved in designing an aircraft for fly? Does one need to be a programmer or are there existing utilities to aide in designing one? I may like to try my hand at it.:)Blake

Hello Ken,(or others who know how) now I have tried your and avsim's advices 4 times to patch up Fly! II. I have followed your way to do it here, AND I have tried different alternatives.1. The first time, I started installing patch 1 to 4. But since i got the error message that: "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match".So at the number 1 patch, I stopped.2. Second time, after first deleting Fly, I got the same message, but continued with 1 to 4 anyway, and came up to ver. 197. Started Fly, but could not use it, the airplane flew only to right and was not to be controlled.3. Third time, after second …

For some reason the Pilatus goes to full throttle after start-up.Even when the controls in the centre pedestal are 'pulled' down to zero it keeps max power. Also the fuel guages do not alter although when 'highlighted ' with the mouse they do give correct readouts of fuel amount, rate of consumption and amount used so far.Any ideas?:-beerchug

I have generated two tiles covering Heathrow which is on one tile and Gatwick which is on the other. The problem is that when both tiles are present in the scenery folder half of the Heathrow tile does not show, but when the Gatwick tile is removed Heathrow is there, and vice versa.I have tried putting the pod into the shared folder but it makes no difference.I have two other scenery tiles, one covering the English Lake District and the other East Midlands, both of which have the same problem. The other tiles I have made EGCC, North Wales Tees-Side, Woodvale, Leeds Bradford and Birmingham all showed more or less immediately. As I am sure you will appreciate that these tiles …
