Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I wanted to share something I recently experienced...Could the following observations or behaviors explain the emphasis that Microsoft places on the exterior views? Some time ago, a friend of mine and his triplets visited us and, in an effort to entertain these three 6-year-olds, I offered them to play a DVD in my PC. When they saw the yoke and the pedals the plan suddenly changed; they wanted to use them! Since I didn't have any flying games such as Crimson skies, I fired up Fly! II. Initially they were quite impressed with the panels but once I cycled through the exterior views, they chose to fly the plane from the outside; they had no interest in the detailed cockpit in…

I don't want to shoot myself in the foot here, but so far since placing a 6" clip-on fan under the desk behind my PC, I have not had a CTD. I haven't made any other changes since the last set of threads in this posting... http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=19007&page=2I want to thank everyone for suggesting heat as the cause. Now - I am going to run another test. I bought a LeadTek GF4 Ti 4600 (eBay) and plan to run it for a few weeks. If I get no CTD's, my current card is still under warranty and Dell told me they'll replace it. Mentioned this b/c I will be putting the new replaced Ti 4600 up for sale. If anyone's interested send me a note. Again, thank …

  4. After completing 62 full tiles I am no longer able to complete any more tiles. Terrascene will produce all the required graphic files, start the slicing process but when the file is completed there is no SCF file in the folder and during the generation of the second or third full tile the program will stop working with an error (WindowsXP Pro). I did not change any settings and am using the same process I used for making the first 62... would think I had it down pretty good by now but have tried three seperate times and the program won't make the SCF file. Anyone else have a clue? I'm a Terrascene junky at this point and can't wait to see more!Zane

Yesterday I've started to use CTO4 3.1 with PMDG 757. I've flew from SBGR to SBCT and quite arriving in SBCT CTO4 got lost and started to say truncated messages repeatedly. I landed in SBCT without any help. Then I flew from SBCT to SBPA and again CTO4 got lost. In this phase it started sending me around (left and right) turns with no sense and then started to issue the same truncated message repeatedly.I didn

"Why I love this sim....."May have took an un-expected turn, got a bit "nasty" and had to be locked. But like a good soap opera, mystery novel, or skin flick........... it certainly brought out the readership from within the deep recesses of a sometimes "stangnent" simulation. 921 views & 71 replies, isn't bad.... when you compare to this rather dull & slow evening!I'm glad that I, Michael & even Avcomware (for an opposing view) can sometimes be of service. :) All in fun, & until later.....L.Adamson

G'day all,Fly! II has to have the best whispy, volumetric clouds around. Definately not a wig in sight. Took a flight around Sydney and just got so emersed in the whole simulation. Sure makes you brush up on your instrument flying. :-)But I am biased. :-)Just for the record the cloud settings I use are two layers of "broken" cloud. layer 2 is 1999 to 3999layer 1 is 4999 to 19999A big thanks to Jure for the work he did in producing "big mammas".Cheers,Roger @YSSY

After a month of experimentation and rolling back to version 40.72 (WHQL Certified) NVidia drivers, I am still getting unexplainable CTD's with no error log whatsoever.I have probably flown 40 times since I first reported this problem, and I would estimate that I've only been able to complete a flight 4 or 5 times. My take-off and cruise skills are sharp. But I can't seem to get through a flight into the landing.Today I crashed using the Pilatus and then the United Airlines B757 (PMDG). For those who may be able to solve this, here is a thread that went on for a few weeks, with many suggestions - all of which I tried, none of which seem to have helped.http://forums.avsim.…

I got the now "famous" Lighthousen error while slicing some New York City TerraScenery. I scanned all the prior posts on this topic and could not find any reason this should happen during scenery slicing, especially since I renamed the "data" directory prior to slicing (so it was totally empty).I never had this problem before during slicing. Any assistance is appreciated.FYI, I was slicing TerraScenery generated for tiles 202159 and 203159.-DK----David KohlFly! 18. Just thinking that using a program such as C4TO you could program in some specific scenarios that would provide the user with a very realistic IFR procedure approach. It would be even neater to create a utility program that a user could record local radio chatter, enter waypoints and altitudes for an approach and then go fly it... if I knew how to I'd already be making it. I have Final Approach on my computer but it was never updated for Fly!II, this kind of program would have been the perfect tool to create such a file from.Any thoughts?Zane

I am currently using C4TO V 3 plus the latest patch with reasonable results. I am aware that a good deal of you are using the earlier V 2 with flyscripts with good reports. I would like to try this but am uncertain as to what files I need to delete to uninstall the program.

Can anyone help with the problem. I haven't started Fly2 up in about 3 weeks. Everything with my last use seemed to work OK. When I boot up now I get the tri-hawk panel, I hear the wheels do the screech and then dots appear all over the screen. After a few minutes, my monitor looses it's signal. I have done the regular troubleshooting, deleted the .hst files, updated my nvidia drivers with no luck. One note, I tried starting fly up using the fly start utitlity and chose a different airplane, it still started with the tri-hawk. Any ideas. Thanks.

Just wanted to get a feel for this. I have had the idea to try and create an E6-B flight computer for Fly!II for some time now. I don't know if it will just be a 'plug in the numbers, push a button, get a result' applet, or a more robust version of the Fly!II Flight Planner.I got the idea after playing around with the ASA CX-2 online 'working' demo, my Student E6-B, and seeing someone post a message asking for a formula to get time enroute from distance, etc. Please step up and voice your opinion.T.C.
