The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Over the last few years popular thinking has been that, other than MS, very few if any publishers want to invest money in a PC based flight simulator because of the narrow market potential. I saw this post over in the MS forum and it would indicate there is plenty of opportunity for a simulator than delivers what the market wants. MS has been very successful in layering improvements over the same basic sim for years. Why wouldn't a publisher follow this same approach with the Fly franchise? http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=143881&page=

Hi all, although I am mostly a lurker in this forum, I am quite interested in Fly 2. I have several hundred hours of real-life stick time in civilian aircraft though mostly on gliders and single engine aircraft. Due to job and family obligation I am grounded for now. To get over it, I have recently bought the RealAir Citabria/Decathlon package. Overall, I am very pleased with it and thoroughly enjoy flying it, it is a thoroughly researched plane, very nice to look at and handle. The only thing which I find very unconvincing is side-slipping her in. I am flying with stick and rudder pedals. Although it is much easier to get the plane into the right attitude than other plane…

If you have not flown the FLY2 twin Otter( look for it in the Avsim library), you're missing a great flight model. I have just received permission from the author of this great panel and will upload the twin otter and the new cockpit as soon as it's in alpha. Most of my work is a combination of learning the paint program and fly's file protocol, which is getting to be very easy. My hope is to upload the plane with new sounds as well.tony

Hello, does anyone know how to solve the problem with RMI after NavData update (resp. after changing ILS.POD file)???After I applied the NavData update for Fly! II from DAFIF (Feb 2003), or if I tried to modify the ILS.POD file, everything work pretty well, ILSs, (at HSI), etc. but RMI rose (compas card) has wrong orientation, which doesnt corespond to HSI or even magnetic compas at all, it shows something like 180

Got caught in sub 2 mile visibility, hand flying an instrument approach, nothing but pure greyish white out the windows. Dang if that isn't stressful, even in a sim! I landed successfully, but I'm just real glad it was only my pride on the line, rather than my actual non-simulated @$$ :)madmax

I've moving gages and then saving them as a new *.pnl file, yet in FLY2 the gauges still retain their original coordinates. Am I missing something?tony

I've been using the latest C4TO and generally it's working great! Really adds a lot to the sim.I've found two small bugs though (nothing too severe):1. Center tells me to do something (decend, or turn to avoid traffic, or whatever). But before I can "roger" him, there's a bunch more chatter on the frequency. That chatter takes a while, and by the time it's over, center is ###### at me for not listening :). Seems there's some sort of timer at the end of which center figures you're not listening, but the timer is easily exhausted by other chatter before you can reply.2. Once in a while, center seems _really_ sensitive to altitude. I'm supposed to be at FL250, and I'm w…

These days it seems that fewer and fewer loyal fans appear in this forum. I know that many others regularily visit it but do not leave any traces. So, how does one measure FLY2 these days? Is it the number of new files, or the new questions in this forum. Will the slowly dimishing number of new forum participants become a self fullfilling prophecy?I don't know why I feel excited when I load up FLY2 for my flying, but don't get that same feeling when I fly msfs2002. It's not a criticism of ms; maybe I am simply old fashioned. Do I wish that FLY scenery were more compatible with ms? sure, I am flying some bush flying in Alaska these days and, clearly, ms simply does it bett…

Greetings all!!!I recall some time ago that someone had put a cockpit remodel on the server for the 747-300/SP. I spent three hours looking for it in the forum (under Fly! II) and couldn't find a thing.Maybe it's me after a long day's worth of flying coast to coast a couple of times, but I'd sure appreciate some assistance with this!!! Also... on some aircraft (i.e. the 747, MD83, 737) which all of these use the Peringine as their base model -- the VS works to only 2000fpm in either direction. To get VS of > or < 2000fpm in either direction it seems to take some fancy footwork. Am I doing something wrong???John BauderFly! II PCNew York, NYKLGA/KJFKjohnlbauder@a…

I enjoy creating airport scenery. Creating the taxiways and buildings and such. How do I package it up so others can download it? I currently use Fly2's scenery editor. Is this an easy task or is it more involved than I realize. I currently have most of the airports in Virginia done and a few in West Va and NC. Thanks for the help!

Thanks to Roberto Vigetti and many of you here, I've managed to change the upper panel to reflect more the dc9 type. Eventually, I intend to create a pod for the SAS md90, which is a longer version of the dc9. I will probably have this new rev ready by the weekend.tony

Hi folks,I've been away for a while, but I am finally getting back into Fly!ing. I'm using a Dell C840 2 GHz laptop with Geforce 440 2go 64mb and 512 mb ram. I'm patched to 240 (is there a 250 patch? I saw a reference to it, but couldn't find a 250 patch anywhere, and it lists as being at 240 on startup) When I try to increase the screen resolution to 1600 x 1200 (Default res of the laptop), I get the following error: "DrawIndexedPrimitive SVertex failed"and Fly! crashes.Any clues? Is this too high a resolution. It did load once with B200, but when I tried to switch to the ROTW PA28, I got the error again.I deleted the *.sit and *.hst files each time I tried to load…
