Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi,I meet some troubles setting the Sahara and the Pilatus autopilot. For instance, I want my aircraft to reach an altitude of 5000 ft with a vertical speed (VS) of 500 ft/s. I set the autopilot correctly but once the aircraft has reached 5000ft, it goes on climbing !:-kewl Moreover, the aircraft doesn't keep a constant vertical speed. Sometimes he climbs 500ft/s, sometimes more. For me, the autopilot doesn't work but how to make it work ? How to set both altitude and vertical speed ?Please could you help me ?Thank you.;-)Damien BRUNET.e-mail : [email protected]

Hi guys :-wave Nearly completed my 3 pack for the North Wales scenery, which is RAF Valley, Caernarfon & Llanbedr.I have designed this area with the new Helicopters and the Seawind in mind :-) Lots of little areas to visit and the lighthouse from Vin is podded and ready. I have put them roughly in their right places. Im also making a farm with a grass runway. This sadly is just a texture not an addition to the database. This is best used with Paul Brooks scenery for that area. If you dont some things may be in the Sea :-( Anyway, if you dont like the farm you dont have to add it. All the best...Regards, Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/ysomdesign/banner.jpg][/divHome…

well, I think I got it now. No CTD, better autopilot buttons, all in one pod. I will be sending it to several of you for a quick beta before I upload it. I see Giorgio has beaten me to it, so there'll be a lot for us to do this week.tony

  7. since there are too many files with the new panel and aircraft, I think it's important to distribute it as a complete pod. This, of course, requires that any other files that make reference to the original dh6 aircraft as well as to the cockpit mod beta version, which some of you have installed inidividually in the separate folders,be removed. This new version should work as a stand alone, providing both the aircraft and the new panel. Obviously, it takes a small file to ruin things. I have two separate drives and directories. I don't get a crash. I have a file comparator to see if there's anything different and, so far, have found none. So, before I upload a new version,…

I created a new directory for FLY2. I reinstalled FLY2 and patched it to 2.5. I installed version2 of the dh6 pod and it worked flawlessly. Yet, some beta testers have had some problems with crashes. I need your help if you want this panel/plane, simply because I don't know what else I can do. When I installed FLY2 from scratch, I configured it for directx8 t&L, 1024x 768, video memory more than 32meg, and, voila, didn't do anything else. I then placed the dh6v2( which I have not uploaded yet), and everything worked fine. So, I have a virgin installation, have not tweaked my ini files. Because of the horrible embarassement regarding my first panel project failing, I a…

Sorry to hear that most of you had trouble with the dh6 v1 panel and plane. It worked fine on my pc, but I discovered that in the podding of all the files, there were some errors. I will send the new version to some of you for a beta test before uploading it so as not to cause so much anguish. Expect a new version soon. tony

  14. Fellow FlyIIers,Have just been spending time trying to get the hang of flying the Bell 407.Part of the difficulty I had was seeing enough of the runway without moving the panel and losing the guages that were essential.I recalled a posting that described the technique of Shift/left click and then drag to isolate and move the selected guage(s) to anywhere on the screen. It's a really useful technique and so I thought I'd post it for the benefit of those who aren't aware of it.BTW flying the Bell is great fun and well worth the time needed to practise the skills.:-rotor

I've just uploaded the new version of my cockpit modification. It includes many new features as well as a bit more polish regarding my painting skills. We now have the first FLY2 aircraft that has the most frequently used controls in the main panel. This will make landing it in bad weather as well a small strips a joy. I want to thank many of you for the encouragement. It's been fun.tony

  17. Anyone have any really good TerraScenery for this corner of the USA and Canada? I've TerraScened most of NW Washington but on the border with Canada, I get the grey-box and square land-mass errors in the water. I've done some editing with Photoshop, but I can't get the seams with Canada correct, and don't have the skills to do all the manual stuff one needs to do to TerraScene Canada.Perhaps someone's either got the raw data in a "project pack", or maybe the tiles completed.Thanks.-DK----David KohlFly! Hi,I've made a photoreal scenery for France. This is my first project which concerns a northern region of France : Picardy. The scenery doesn't show the whole region but you can easily fly from Amiens to Saint-Quentin and fly over the fields and cities where the famous "Battle of the Somme" of 1916 took place. In the meantime, I've got some other projects of French photoreal sceneries that you can find on my Web site. Some screenshots from the Picardy Project are also available :http://www.udb.fr.st/Your comments about my sceneries are welcome !Regards,;-)Damien BRUNET.e-mail : [email protected]

  20. Hello all taildragger flyers out there. I could use some technique help. I have been trying to master takeoff's and landing's with both the P51 and Staggerwing (ROTW). In both cases, I tend to have massive problems on the runway as soon as the tail wheel lifts from the ground during takeoff. I seem to flop all over the place, and require constant differential braking to stop the plane from totally leaving the runway on one side or the other. The only way I seem to get a good takeoff is to pull the yoke back all the way while my speed increases, effectively forcing the plane to keep its tail wheel on the ground until air-speed enables the plane to lift off. Maybe this is th…

Panel making is tough! Considering that my panel is nowhere as clean and pretty as some of the others we have in the works, I ask all of you to extend our deepest appreciation for the hours and talent that they put into these panels. I am simply awed by the complexity, yet beauty of these panels. I wish Rich Harvey were here to participate.Let me know if you consider this panel ready. I know that the autopilot buttons are oversized, and at some point I may want to reduce their size. I have an md80 panel to get back to, an erj and so on. Besides, the new harvey airline is imposing new rules for all of us veteran flyers, so I need to FLY. This Twin Otter is simply a beauty …

I recently upgraded my system, including a new graphics card, Radeon 8500.When I start Fly II, I get a flashing, rotating aircraft, with no scenary or runway. I am running the latest driver for the card. I have tried reinstalling Fly II, and all the patched with no success. I don't know much about editing the render.ini file. I did do a search and tried a few things - like running under Dx7. Only problem is when I do that, it starts up fine, but as soon as I click on the PMDG 777, the sim freezes and gives me a runtime exception message for WINRUN.CPP, line 152.I have also tried going back to some old drivers. When I go back to a driver from Feb, I can make it work, but t…
