The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

From time to time. I see posts asking for sources for FlyII. Here's one. While on vacation in Portland OR last week, I found several copies of the PC version at a mall store (GameStop) in Lloyd Center. Price was US$9.99. The guy behind the counter said their website (www.gamestop.com) showed combined inventory from all stores, so online ordering was possible. I do not know if they do international orders.I believe Gamestop is a subsidiary of Babbage's.I bought a PC copy (even though I run only Macs) to show support for TRI and to have a original box to proudly display next to a bottle of Weinhardt's root beer and Wick Fowler's chili mix!

For those of you using the Terraserver Image Grabber there is a solution to the problem of getting an error message. If you will remember Microsoft changed/moved the system. At the time the system was being moved it was necessary for Allen to provide another TSGRAB.exe file. That file worked until the new system came on-line.You now need to delete the TSGRAB.exe file furnished by Allen and go back to the original .exe file that came with the Terramodels 2.1 program. When you do that you will once again be able to download images.I have been waiting for more that a week for someone to come up with a solution to this problem. Today I decided to replace the TSGRAB.exe file wi…

I would like to interest someone with scenery designing skills to design this airport for the upcoming FS2004. For those of you living outside Los Angeles this might not necessarily interest you. However, maybe it might since this was a great little airport in the golden days of early aviation. I'm talking about the Grand Central Air Terminal in Glendale, California. Please take a look at this website for further information on this great terminal that was owned and operated by Curtiss-Wright. Hopefully, someone with experience in building scenery for Flight Simulator will take up the challenge.Regards,Gianlucahttp://www.godickson.com/gca1.htm

Wayne:I saw the new airports in the file library, but haven't had the time to download and try them out. But in advance, I want to say thanks very much. I appreciate your hard work.Next project - Northwest Washington State and the West Coast of Oregon. Some of the most beautiful VFR flying (with TerraScene) in the country IMHO. When you have the time. But always appreciated.-DK----David KohlFly! II v2.5.240Dell 8200 P4/1.8G, 1024MB RAM, Nvidia GF4 Ti4600 v44.03, WinXP Home Edition SP1.CH Pro Pedals and Yoke USB.

This is where it all began! As an Ohioan, I must say it actually all began in a bicycle shop in Dayton, but I'll give you your due...they first took to the air from your shores. As this tile is actually only a half global tile in size (and contains a lot of water), it will be unnecessary to upload it as a project pack. The finished, rendered scenery zipped up to about 37 MB. Now - by itself the Kitty Hawk scenery is just a "sliver" of land plus that area of the outer banks and surrounding islands. To connect this area to the mainland, you will need to download and render the Edenton tile. To complete the whole outer banks area, I would recommend 4 tiles: Bayboro, Cape Hatt…

Do they connect to the same server? Does Fly!2k even have multiplayer? Has anyone figured out a way to connect direct IP or anything like that? I have a server that is just sitting here and would host Fly!II multiplayer if I could.Any comments?

Wayne,Took a flight out to Oakland Metropolitan, another of your excellent airports.Whilst taxiing to parking spotted the Koru (the emblem on the tail of Air New Zealand planes) and so just had to go in a little closer for a better look. The plane was an Air New Zealand Link aircraft. The Link aircraft are used on the domestic routes in NZ rather than the international routes.Just thought you might be interested.Keep up the great work, it's very much appreciated.:-beerchug

Giving Fly 2 another chance chance now that I have a patch that makes it seemless and I accidently crashed my standard sim FS 2k2. Problem is, even though I love the system functionality of the Fly panels I sure wish that Operational Manuels had been supplied for the aircraft included especially the Pilatus and the Hawker 800. Does anyone know if any were ever drafted and if so, where can I download/order them??? Thanks guys.Gary

Hello Wayne,I wanted to thank you for all your fine work on your scenery projects. I sent you an email about asking you if you would be interested in revamping your Scenery for the FXE Ft. Lauderdale Executive airport. I have a beautiful aerial photo that Banyan air with is one of the major FBO at the airport give out for free which is a great photo. I was hoping you would make this one of your super projects that you could detail nicely. I myself have done some Scenery in the past for this forum, But I cannot seem to understand the Terrascene/Terramodels well enough to start creating more airports and that is why I am coming to you. If there is anyway you could email whe…

I know that there is a version of squawkbox for Fly!2, but could someone please tell me if there is a version for Fly!1 avilable for use with VATSIM ?I also have MSFS2002 - but it is quite laggish sometimes so Fly! would work better - and the panels are much more realistic too :-)Thanks in advance,Andrew M (BAW320)

Hello. A few months ago, I installed a neat "clear" UI for Fly!II. I liked it alot at first, but now I'm kind of frustrated with it. I can't do anything at night, or when I'm looking at the ground, flight planning etc. You can't read the text most of the time. I didn't backup the original UI stuff and I really don't want to reinstall to get it back. Could I get someone to email me the original files? Anyone know what I'm rambling about?ThanksPieter

I have uploaded an image showing the Auckland Internationl airport(nzaa)This is the default scenery in the scenery editor of a backup copy of Fly 2. As you can see part of the runway extends into water. This is actually correct because that part of the runway is built on a causeway. The problem is however if you taxi to the end of the runway you will crash into water well before the end. I have corrected this to some extent by realigning the runway on to what appears to be land.If you taxi to the end of the runway now a crash occurs just before the end. This also happens on part of the taxiway and ramp. This is all a bit long winded but my question is, what makes some water…

Does Fly!II support it? I'm kicking around the idea of getting a Sidewinder FF 2. The reports from FS2k2 and FF were a little less then stellar. They said it works, but isn't very representative of real flying forces.I don't even know if this is an option for Fly!II.ThanksPieter

i hear alot of whining about the fouroseven but its flight handeling and realism are unmatched by any other commercially available simulator.

I have had great trouble with an unknown model extension error for lighthousen when trying to fly from B'Ham (EGBB) to M'cr (EGCC) with crashes to desktop about one third the way into the flight.I sequentially deleted the airport scenery and still had the problem. When I tried to fly the journey without using the Fly flightplanner the system did not crash.I am using Paul Brooks's excellent photorealistic scenery and Steve Brown's airports.Has anyone had similar problems? Can anyone explain it?:-beerchug

Greetings to everybody. I'm sorry to everyone involved, because I made a mistake when I categorised the Budapest1 Project. (Probably that is why it showd failure to the Simvol Fly! testers.)The Budapest1 Projekt belongs to the Fly!2 scenerys. And I like to present my latest projekt! It's borders are the cordinates:N47
