Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I am now officially a Private Pilot, Airplane Single Engine Land (PP-ASEL), although it really hasn't sunk in yet. The examiner said I was very well prepared for my oral and other than not having an after engine shutdown checklist, my checkride was excellant. I was soooooo relieved after studying and stressing all weekend. The weather forecast was looking iffy for today, but it turned out to be a beautiful day without a cloud in the sky. The wind was gusty and the air was bumpy though, making for some interesting landings. She didn't talk much except to issue commands, so that was nerve-racking too. She did tell me ahead of time that she would tell me right away if …

Hi,With so many add-ons for Fly! II (Biber models, Fly! editor, Terrascene, etc.), build scenarios are a real pleasure to make! :-jumpyNow we can see Augusto Severo Airport, Natal, Brazil in full glory almost ready for release (still waiting for the elevation tool to finish). This sim is taking a good shape, and my advice is: get a 757 from PMDG. This aircraft is suberb and runs much better than 777 (including performance). Can

  7. I know I promised this last monday, but I needed to obtain permission from ROTW. Once that was given by Rene Binot, he and others of the ROTW team reviewed the paint scheme three times, even getting comment from two French military pilots from L'Escadrille l'Armee de Terre (EAAT), which flies this TBM 700. It has been very helpful and I have made all the modifications they suggested. As Rene said, now you understand why it takes so long to produce our aircraft. Hence the outstanding quality of ROTW's aircraft. Their meticulous attention to detail and accuracy is evident in their beautiful products.Of course, this goes especially for this EAAT version, afterall, it i…

Hello, last week I posted a question regarding the feasability of adding a default NAV/GPS button to the TBM700. I believe the last response was that the panel guy from ROTW would be around next week (which should be this week). Any news regarding this? It would make cross country flights much nicer! Robert

With all the news lately about Afghanistan. I thought I would check out the scenery in that area. So where else would be a better place to start than in Kabul. Checked the maps out and decided to head towards the infamous Khyber Pass. This country looks like the lunar landscape in some areas. Its going on midnight here in Philadelphia and I have to work a half a day tomorrow. But I will post some screens shots of my little excursion tomorrow afternoon once I get home. No wonder it hasnt been such a walk in the park for the military over there. It was a task just getting the altitude to clear some of the mountain ranges along the way. Not sure if anyone will want to see th…

Hi,As some of you are probably aware, Florida has several "gaps" when it comes to the government data that Terrascene uses to render scenery, one of which is a large area just north of Tampa. As a result, the only thing that renders are roads, coastlines, rivers/streams, and lakes. There is no differentiation with regards to land class types/textures, and the only texture is the background texture I chose in the options menu.Does anyone know of a way to work around this? I know someone once sugested shapefiles, which I know nothing about, although I'd be willing to learn. And if anyone had any other ideas I could try I'd also be very appreciative. Also, does anyone know wh…

I have just uploaded an ILS fix for Les Eplatures, Switzerland. LSGC is another of Danny Masson's Swiss Airport Series - it's not in the "hairy approach" category, but certainly requires care as it sits in a valley surrounded by hills. http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3ce7f8a0177f9d17.jpg Adjustments include addition of the glide slope, extension of the localizer range, and a DME reading of 0.0 NM at the displaced threshold. I have set the GS angle to the proper 3.5 degrees, though that angle will not become functional till a future beta release. In the meantime, the 3-degree default will still bring you safely in. http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3ce7f8…

Here is the final repaint livery I plan on doing for the PMDG 757. I think there must be near a dozen or so waiting to be completed so I'll finish all of the previews before I undertake any new ones.Matt, here's a real rough cut on the Britannia Airways 757. Turned out pretty good for a quick and dirty. The final version will, of course, be up to PMDG standards.Took off from Heathrow planning to overfly London to take some screenshots, but I haven't the foggiest as to which direction to Fly!Pete

Hi there,Good news! Some time ago I posted the following problem here:I always crashed landing at ships, the oilrig or addon helipads / buildings. (but not due to my flying skills :-)Today I tried it with a clean, but fully patched Fly2. No problem, I could land everywhere. So after painful hours of searching (just kidding :) I found something in the fly.ini:This setting is the reason: WheelDetectionMode=1If you set it to "0", then the heli crashes! So it has to be set to "1" like in the clean Fly2 installation. I don't know why it was changed to zero, I didn't!Since there was no reply to my problem (execpt others having the same)I don't know if anyone knew it and I post …
