The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Greetings Fly'ers...I've been trying to get back into Fly2 now for a while, mainly for the TerraScene capabilities. Now that the 757 is released, I was wondering if anyone could review/compare it to its commercial add-on Boeing bretheren found on the "other" sim platform? The 757 is the one plane that does NOT have a great FS2002 addon panel in the vein of the PIC767, DF767, PSS744/777/A32x, and I would LOVE it if this gave me a good excuse to jump back into the Fly2 world. Everything *looks* good from the advertising materials, but I am curious how it performs in the sim itself!Back to scene slicing,-Greg Germ

The Northwest Airlines 747-300 repaint is now available on the AVSIM server. As usual, you'll need the Iberia 747-300 to use this repaint. If you need the Iberia, I've provided a direct link to the file on the AVSIM server. Just copy and paste. One nagging problem with this latest repaint. There is a smear of red on the forward underbelly that I havn't been able to eliminate. It's coming from another texture area that is red and I have not been able to locate it's exact where abouts. Hopefully this doesn't detract from your enjoyment of this repaint.Pete

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and spend a bit of time tweaking Fly! II to get better frame rates, and boy did it pay off. Using a number of posts I read on these forums, I was able to get my framerates up around 20 frames per second on detailed scenery! I've been flying quite a bit in a Denver area scenery I downloaded here that includes a very detailed KAPA (Centennial Airport) and tons of buildings in the city. I never thought I'd achieve 20 fps in this detailed scenery using my GeForce2 GTS 32MB. These are my specs:Pentium 4 1.4 GhzGeForce2 GTS 32MB512MB RAMWindowsXP ProfessionalnVidia Denotator Drivers (v28.32)FSAA: 2xHere are the steps I took:1) Ensure my AG…

Hello all, I have a couple of questions that I'd like to ask. Firstly, dealing with Terramodels version 2.2, if I make a scenery using TM (ex, Ketchikan AK), then startup Fly!II and use the default editor to move things and add some other models, will TM pod all the models or just the ones I placed using TM? Question 2. Is it possible to use DEM data for one area in another? For instance, I would like to make Alaska a little more mountainous, but DEM's don't seem to be aviable. Can I convert a chunk of Colorado, or Washington St. DEM's and have Fly!II generate the elevations for Alaska? Is anything like this possible? Also, if anyone is working on (or has already fin…

Hi guys. I've been away from the Fly! community for awhile now due to hardware constraints. I have the PFC console and it 1) doesn't support fly! and 2) conflicts with a joystick. Well,...I am now a two computer household and I'm putting Fly!II on one of them. In the process of this upgrade, I've upgraded from ME to XP. Guess what, my Sidewinder Precision Pro doesn't work any more. I visited MS and they aren't supporting that hardware with XP drivers. I wonder if anyone's found a work-around or if you know of another set of drivers that will work with this joystick. I hate to buy another just because of Windows!!!BobL

As windows98 became increasingly slower everytime I booted, I was reluctant to reinstall it because of my FLY2 perfect set up with all the add ons and anything else that had accumulated up to that point. Yet, I knew that sooner or later I would have to do something about it. I didn't have a backup, so a hard disk failure was also on my mind. After careful analysis of my situation, I decided that a second hard drive would be preferable to a cd-write( I support all vendors and I was never good at keeping track of my floppies). I knew that with a second hard drive I would have the redundancy as well as a clutter free desk, without all those cd disks. So I did it. I installe…

I have just uploaded a database update to the file library to aid in this approach. Look for the IGS Update for LSGS, Sion Switzerland. The update greatly extends the range of the localizer, DME, and glide slope so that the real world intercept procedures may be followed. The teardrop intercept takes place btwn 21 and 25.6 miles out. Sion is also part of Danny Masson's beautiful Swiss Airport Series - run to the library if you don't already have it. Then, unless you smear yourself on some mountain on the way, you'll have a beautiful place to set down in. :-) Beginning the turn to the Initial Approach Fix, Montana VOR http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3ce5da8e1c4d7d…

Another first cut. This is the first in the series of America West jets I'am planning to do. I was never able to do this one for Fly!2K because of alignment problems with the horizontal stripes. Not a problem in Fly! II. Ohio, Arizona, Neveda and the New Colors livery are all on tap. I'll see about any other AM liveries if there are request for them.Pete

Hi all,I've just had my first crack at implementing an add-in for Fly! II. It's a replacement for the standard checklist feature. I'd be happy for any comments that you have. I only ask that you "be nice". :-):-beerchugCheers, Tony
