Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Greetings,I've been away from this forum for a while and have a quick question. I'm getting a new PC and want to install Fly II on it. I know there have been quite a few patches and have this question: Do I have to install all the patches or is there one global one that will update it to its' latest level. If there is one large patch that'll do the trick, what is the name of it? Thank you very much.Sincerely,Hans [email protected]

Continuing the adjustments to the airports of Danny Masson's Swiss Airport series, fixes for the St. Gallen ILS/DME Rwy 10 are now available. Adjustments include localizer alignment, GS, and DME placement. In order to maintain proper clearance from the terrain, use the appropriate STAR. In this case, I am approaching St. Gallen from the West, using the Zurich East One Hotel Arrival. http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cee77911e28845d.jpg The glide slope is moderately steep (4.0 degrees), but you will not experience that angle until a future beta patch. In the case of St. Gallen you will still maintain clearance using the GS - note that the ground isn't that far awa…

Attention Fly II helicopter pilots. Robert "Helibird" and I are planning a multiplayer session on Fly II at 13:00 hours EDT on Sunday (tomorrow) 5/26. We will be flying Bell 407's.For the most fun, install Scott's NYC, LGA and JFK scenery if you don't have it already! There are four heliports in Manhattan, one at JFK, and one at Floyd Bennett Field, in Brooklyn. We are planning a NYC aerial tour, with landings at each heliport. We will probably use Roger Wilco as well.Initial meeting at La Guardia Airport - KLGA.See you there!Wayne"SimPilot"

Hi!It may be win2k pro or I may have installed the patches incorrectly, but VOR's that SHOULD provide DME do not. As an example MXE near Philadephia. Niether Nav1 or Nav2 will work. Also, the Meridian will not start unless the throttle is full open, then sputters for 4 or 5 minutes then RPM ramps up. I have not been able to figure out what is wrong. I followed the instructions (I think).... fresh install, upgrade to 210 then 230. Then start FlyII!Any ideas? Thanks in advance BobP :)

Recently after typing in the airport ID code and hitting select the screen will go black for a few seconds and then I will get the following error report and Fly II crashes. altitude2 path not found DataD200159goo.aL2 file globe.cpp line 1012The Data folder reference will be different according to the airport I am selecting. Does anyone have an explaination for this error and how I can correct it short of reloading fly 11. this does not come up all the time. it seems it effects only certain airport selections. everything else runs just great. Also in my data folder I must have hundreds of folders,is this a normal thing or not? I have a pretty good selection of airports …

This is a general question for those talented individuals who produce all of the wonderful aircraft for Fly!2. :-beerchug I really enjoy Fly!II. :-yellow1 But as I have read in many treads posted in this forum about obtaining or being able to experience as much reality as possible when using Fly!II, I have a question. :-hmmmIs there any reason for not showing or being able to see more of the nose section when looking out over the aircraft panel. In my opinion, seeing a portion of the nose section would make flying more realistic. Again, in my opinion, you would get a better sense of being able to judge distances while on approaches, landings, etc. :-) I know that there i…

I feel a plea to someone to give up there time is hypocritical when I myself have not the time to do it, and have only a repaint or two and a horrible a/c mod. to my name. I do, those feelings aside, feel a need for some one to develop adventures and other interesting python scripts, .dll's and interfaces.I look at some of the features the FS series (I dont use the FS series) have, flight tests, lessons, FSMaintainence etc. That could be (I went to say "just as easily") implemented into FLy!II. I dont think anybody should be forced to develop addons, nor addons of a particular type. However if you're considering getting into the freeware developig market for F!2 then, may…

Does anyone recall a world race flown with King 350's. It had a schedule for destinations by legs, to go around the world, I have one copy dated 9/99 that was downloaded from flightsim.com and wonder if any more were released by Fly.It was called "Fly Around the World." I tried most of the sim web sites looking for other editions but come up empty. So of course, my next move is to ask the Fly community.

I am having trouble with the "turn head" function (CTRL plus arrow keys). When I hold down the CTRL key the yellow markers appear on each side of the screen, but when I hit the arrow keys nothing happens, *most* of the time.Sometimes it works and the view turns to look out the copilot window, etc. But most of the time it doesn't. The scrolling works ok, just moving the mouse to the edge of the screen.I have seen this in several of the built-in aircraft, as well as the PMDG 777.Does anyone have a clue what makes this work sometimes and not others?--Paul Dickson

We went to Lunken (KLUK) for some T&G's and class D op's yesterday after some manuvers and actually experienced first hand an ASRS report I read a few days ago. Tower called "3LK your second in line behind the Cherokee on 3 mile final, advise traffic in site". Brian (my CFII) and I both looked about where we thought the Cherokee should be, there was a dot, must be the Cherokee..."3LK traffic in site". About 15 seconds later Brian looks down off the right main, (we were in a right hand pattern for 21R) about 200 feet below and there's the Cherokee, turns out our dot was a Citation for 21L, real pretty shiny one too. I asked him if he had seen the Cherokee and was j…

I've been working the paintkit, converting it over to a format I'am more comfortable with. I've just about finished with the master livery and once I've nailed down the main gear doors, I'll start working on the release version of the repaints. Night textures are still not fully implemented as Robert is in the process of putting the finishing touches to that part of the kit. I'am posting a few screenshots of the master livery. I've gotten the opening door to match the outline on the fuse and I've put myself into the 1st officers chair. I'll probably include a better picture of myself in the release version. Lugano is another portion of Danny Masson's excellent Swiss Airport series. I've reset the glide slope to the correct angle (more on that in a moment), extended the localizer range and moved the DME transmitter to give a correct readout.Though these mountains certainly are more gentle than those around Sion, look out! They're big enough, and you'll notice that all of the Lugano Arrivals keep you away from the west where the big boys are! http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cec69213c3e9e69.jpg This approach calls for a steep angle (6.65 degrees!) I've reset the glide slope to match, BUT...you'll have to wait for a future beta patch to use it! Ignore it for now, and…

Hello everybody;this is my first post, so first of all let me say "well done" do Ken for his idea of banning "FS religion wars"; I guess nobody will complain and probably many of us use more than one FS, squeezing the best out of each one!Now the real "problem" : I d/l Tony Crider's Adv. Checklist (I'd like to join the community in thanking him) but I'm left with envy for people who appreciated this utility : In fact, I get a window saying that no airplane was selected, and when trying to open the .xml, nothing happens.I supposed to have to rename checklist.xml to FlyHawk.xml (in fact, this last file was not in the .zip), but, beside seeing the proper name in the popup wi…
