Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Not clear to me from the documentation what has changed in this newer file other than the addition of weather radar for the Hawker. Have there been any actual changes to the original centerpost graphics? Anyone shed some further light on this?Grant

I have the latest versions downloaded onto my machine. I have read a lot of treads concerning each. Most of the time, when downloading, the installation instructions will inform you that you must have the latest versions installed for whatever it is that you are downloading, (airports, scenes, etc.). How do they work? Other than having the latest version downloaded, is there something that we have to do? Or will the latest version update whatever scenery you are installing automatically? Does Texture Enhancer automatically enhance textures just by the virture of it being installed? Thank you for any comments.Curtis

  4. Hi Everyone,Ive been thinking of ways we can ALL develop Fly's future and I'd like to run this idea by you to see if its practicle and possible. What if we create future developments based on more realism at actual specific points rather than lower quality/realism which have many variation.....let me TRY and explain!!My idea is to create development based on specific AIRPORTS and FLIGHT PLANS. If we take JFK for example this would consist of the following.1) Scenery resolution2) Air Traffic Control3) A1 Aircraft4) Building and FeaturesLets Start with 1) Scenery resolutionThis would consist of making tiled scenery just on the Flight Plan so instead of one person creat…

I'm wondering if any one can help me with a 3d modelling question. I do a lot of 3d models on the MAC professionally and use a piece of software called Strata StudioPro (high end modelling and rendering software). I don't know much about 3d Studio, but I know that that's the software everyone seems to be creating models for FLY!. I'm wondering if I was to the create models in my program and then save them in a format that could be read by 3d Studio would there be anyone out there interested in trying? I'd do something very simple first so that little time is wasted in case it doesn't work. I can save in the following formats - 3dmf, dxf, bmp, amapi, SHM 1.0 file, VRML 1.0…

I was flying multiplayer a few days ago, and happened across another aircraft, in the water just short of the runway at SFO. I landed to render assistance, but no response... But, it was an interesting screenshot, so I thought I'd post it.

Hey there - I just migrated to Windows 2000 and installed Fly!, patched it on up to 1.0.1.88 (SDK) and installed TS2.1, knocked out some SUPER-FINE looking scenery for Northern California (which looks just swell from within Flyedit1.06b4) - basically the identical setup I had running on a Windows 98 machine - but Fly! won't start... All I can think is that it's the OS - I get this message at the startup that reads:An internal error has occcured[show details]Stream corrupt. Cannot process next tag line (File).File: c:flightflightcorestreamio.cppLine: 821I'm baffled. Any clues, anyone?BillyI Wish RL Had a Slew Key

I have been using Fly?Fly2K for some time and I am familiar with importing metarfiles in these programs and it works verywell. Since a few weeks I use FLY2 ( patched up to build 230 )but I can`t get the imported weather working as it should. After placing the metarfile in the metarfolder and importing this file in FLY2 it is possible to see that the weather has been imported .You can see the settings in the weather pull down windows. You can hear the correct ATIS for the area. You can see the clouds.BUT THERE IS NO RAIN,SNOW NOR WINDS ,and the metar filetells it should. Can you tell me what to do to get it working properly.Greetz Leen

  18. Ever since PMDG came out with their beautiful Greek Airports package, I've been enjoying all of the beautiful airports and villages they've constructed throughout the Greek islands. One of the major airports they added was LGAV - Eleftherios Venizelos Airport near Athens. The major problem with this large airport is the ILS approaches never quite worked right (or at all). One of the major difficulties was that 2 approaches (opposite ends of the runway) also shared the same frequency, which in Fly! can cause difficulties at times. It appears that I've finally solved the puzzle and they are working. ILS/DME Rwys 03L & 21R are now working, 03R is repaired (was non-functio…

Just to let you guys know,I will be bowing out from the forums. I'm not sure when (if) I will return. So, a vacancy is open for the Moderator position in the Fly! Forum. The pay sucks, but locking threads makes up for it. ;-)If you are interested, let Scott or myself know. I will be peeking in every once in a while until the handoff is complete.I really enjoyed my time here and the relationships I have made.http://www.thesalters.org/images/Avsim_sig_KS.jpgOh, and don't pick on Larry too much.

Get ready for the upcoming AVSIM conference in September! Robert "Helibird", Scott "NYC Flyer", and I invite you to join in another multiplayer helicopter and airplane flight around the Lake Tahoe area, on the TRI server, starting at TWL, Lake Tahoe Airport, on Sunday 6/9 at 1 PM EDT. There are several excellent add-on scenery files for Fly 2 available in the AVSIM file library, such as the Terrascene scenery and airport models of the Lake Tahoe area by Dominique Klein, and Terramodels 2 airports by Chris Ward (see screenshots of me flying over TVL in Dominique's scenery, below). We will also be using Roger Wilco for voice communications, on the AVSIM RW server, with IP 2…
