Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi, I have a couple of quick questions-Is their any regional jets/turboprops for Fly II like an EMB120 or CRJ700?2) I am getting some strange lights from the ground, they are several different rays all coming to a focus like a lighthouse. Is this a scenery error? What can be done to fix itThanks.Ric

I just received two messages with viral "care packages" attached. They were sent to the account that I use mainly for forum messaging and sim-related communications, so whoever "farmed" my address probably picked it up here at Avsim or another sim site.Luckily, my anti-virus software caught them immediately. One message was in Spanish, the other English. The virus was in attachments and the virus was the same type in each message: W32.Yaha.F@mmBe sure to update your virus signatures and be careful!Oh...One attachment was named "urfriend.scr" - the other was "DO ESTELIONATO E OUTRAS FRAUDES.doc.bat".

Hi,I have a problem with fly, its not running too slow, its running hyper FAST! I cannot slow it down and its REALLY annoying. I have checked distance compression but everything seems fine. I have the same problem in FS2002 as well. Everything runs at about 4times speed. For example, a 1hr20min flight took 20min, climb to 43000 ft took a little over 5min and the ATC messages are cut in half,ie I'll get half the message spoken before I get 'xx.xx did you copy?' Anyone got any ideas?AMD Athlon 1700XPGe Force 2MX400 64Mb graphics card256 Mb DDRAMWin 98Thanks Ric

Got another joystick. A Logitech Wingman3d with twist rudder. It was either my few year old ms precision pro, or the 15 pin input on the sound card, or something that ties it all togeather. This one has a USB input, and seems to work well. No views changing on their own. Thanks for the ears!!! Time to get some flight time in finaly.

  13. Here's the British Airways 747-300. Big differences of course are that Brit Air did not use the 300 series and the engines are not the Rolls Royce as on all of their aircraft. An advisory - all of the low detail model repaints for the B747-300 that I've done, have incorrectly applied textures to rudders and engines. You can see it as the model switches from high detail to low in flyby mode or when you back way off in view point. I'll correct the previously released repaints with new low detail models. They'll be seperate updates for all of the repaints of the 747-300 I've done so look for them in the next few weeks.Pete

Hi all,I was digging 'round the 'net when I discovered this interesting website called Aerofiles focusing on American aviation (see Aerofiles). They've got this enormous database with every manufacturer's product lines from somewhere around 10,000BC to the present. I found this interesting entry for the PA-19/PA-20 Pacer:PA-19, -20 Pacer 1950 (1A4) = PA-16 with 125hp Lycoming O-235 or O-290-D; span: 29'3" length: 20'5" load: 825# v: 125/112/50. Flaps, control wheel and other improvements. $3,298; POP: 1,119 PA-20 and 1 as PA-19. Original Clipper designation was changed because of objections from PAA, who claimed prior rights to the name. I was just wondering how processor-intense those planes are. I'm running a PII 400 and is relatively happy with my framerates (staying out of crowded areas of course), getting a 10-20 fps flying the 172.Would these planes run at an acceptable rate on my computer, or should I wait until I upgrade?John IvanENHD

  21. I haven't even touched the original Fly! for almost a year now. Only Fly!II. That is until this morning. Something inspired me to install it, and see what it looks like with my shiny new graphics card. All I can say is wow. It is a completely different sim now. At 4x FSAA I get over 30 fps at SFO, with all the "sliders" maxed out. This is WITH clouds as well. Enjoying this a LOT. I encourage all of you to take a look back at this sim, and give it another shot......You just might become addicted to it ;)

Due to my :-beerchug SOLO!!!!! :-beerchug, did it last night at about 750 pm at HAO by Cincinnati, Ohio and it was great! We did 3 t&g's he had me pull over, got out, said give me three, mumbled something about liability and closed the door, amazing how well that thing climbs with just me in there, coming down at approach speed really have to adjust for the balance difference that I've been use to having the dead weight in the right seat. After my big moment we just buzzed around a bit, went down over the Jimmy Buffett concert, nice summer evening, no wind, no clouds, really kewl night for flying. When I landed for the night I bounced and got an extra landing in, tol…

.... and patched up to build 210. What advantage is there to patching up to build 230?Also, in the Setup splash screen, I enabled DX8 T&L; it recognized my video card (GEForce2 Ti); and I choose >32 mg video RAM. I started up at the default SanFran airport, but at sunset, there was no nice golden glow on my plane. (I enabled the "environmental mapping under Options). What did I miss? My next task will be to install the fixes and such for the various planes...... get my 3rd party planes reinstalled..... not to mention the TS sceneries that I've downloaded. Boy! will I be busy this weekend.-Lindy :-spacecraft
