Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Good morning all:While looking at my fly systems folder last evening, I happen to come across these two folders; rate.txt and videoerr.txt. Are these two files required? Can they be eliminated? Or is there something that I should take care of? The rate folder, I assume, provides information regarding average fps during my last flight?? Text in the videoerr.txt file, when opened reads" DrawIndexedPrimitive SVertex failed".Thank you in advance for any information or insight provided!!Curtis

I tried to start up my Fly today, but got an error message: Stream corrupt. Cannot process next tag line. [file] File: streamio.cpp Line: 826This happened as I started up Fly after installing the new CH drivers. Now I haven't tried to reinstall Fly since I'm reluctant to go through the rather laborious process of reinstalling all the add-ons, so I'm hoping that someone might have an idea of what might be wrong. Thanks for your help.John IvanENHD

Below are the last few entries of my gtfo.txt file. Can anyone help? Thanks to Randall, the ATC goal stack error may be solved. Hardly ever did I receive a runtime error. Now I get a runtime error every time I use Fly!2. I have deleted all .hst and .sit files but without good results. I hope that a fly!2 reinstall will not be required!!!Msg: Push: ATC goal stack is fullFile: atcgoal.cpp line 423Time: Mon Jun 10 21:02:46 2002errno = 2 (No such file or directory)----------------------------------------------------------------Msg: Runtime execption code c0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address BFF7B992File: WINRUN.CPP line 165Time: Tue Jun 11 19:08:54 2002errno = 2 …

Hi all. I just used ts2.1 with base fly!II textures to make some new scenery for a 60x110 nm (approx) area in Fly!2K -and i can't seem to fly it without a massive frame rate reduction - especially when level flying (like, if I fly nose down the frame rate is excellent, even if I am still high enough to be looking at 20 miles or so of terrain). I've tried rendering/slicing it twice - once with the 'one image per globe tile' option checked, expecting that smaller pieces would make it run better but, nope. And I get a really bad aliasing effect - it's always been pretty bad, say when looking at runways in the distance, but now all of the terrain from middle-distance out ge…

Hello Fly!ers,Today I changed my nVIDIA Video-Driver to Det. 29.42. Than I started Fly! II and it crashed. So I decided to make a fresh clean new install of Fly!. But the results were the same. The only way, I got Fly! Running, was to disable "High Detailed Textures". (Please see my pics with Error-message)Here are the pics with my settings and ERROR-screen:1.0) First setting, everything enabled1.1) ERROR Screen2.0) Using instead of DirectX 8 T&L only DirectX 82.1) Error Screen3.0) Disable "High Detailed Textures" - this worked, but it is not acceptable for me.Best Regards and safe flights!Holger (German Eagle) SchleenhainRuesselsheim (near EDDF):-wave GERMANY :-wave_…

Not always, but most of the times, when flying the 757, the computer freezes in the approach. It seems always when the a/p has locked on to the localizer, the plain is turning final and before the G/S is locked. Before the flight I remove the .hst file.I remember there where earlier posts on this subject. That person intented to throw Fly!II out of the window. I have no plans in that direction, but I must say that it is very frustrating (almost) never to be able to land after a trip. :-grr Can anybody help????

We had another successful multiplayer flight today, visiting airports including Lake Tahoe (TVL), Minden Tahoe (MEV), Carson City (CXP),Reno (RNO), Stead (4SD) and finally, Truckee Tahoe (TRK). Pilots included Wayne "SimPilot" and Robert "Helibird" Bell 407's, and Scott "NYC Flyer", Charlie, Fred,Todd and Michael in various fixed wing aircraft - ranging from a C172 to a Hawker jet!We communicated on the AVSIM Roger Wilco channel, and also by text chat.A good time was had by all, with some spectacular VFR flight seeing!Since not everyone had Terrascene scenery installed, we took an interesting group shot at Truckee Tahoe, with some folks slightly buried in the sand. :-)

The patch that updates fly2 from build 210 to build 230 corrects many small problems, but seems to create a new one - "bleeding" of model textures, for example, aircraft wheels through the body when gear is "up". This problem occurs with both aircraft and some scenery models.Has anybody had the same problem and worked out how to solve it? Is there a setting in fly.ins for example? Thanks for any helpBen

I'm having trouble with the PC-12 autopilot. It seems that it's having trouble capturing the altitude. After reaching the altitude the autopilot slow the climb to 500ft/m and it's supposed to level out. Is there a fix for this problem?Thanxpluto1168(kelvin)

On the EFIS display in the Socata, the LHS middle button(Nav Sensor Selector) is used to couple the GPS to the auto pilot. If you are running Windows XP,clicking this buttons gives you an instant exit. The No1 System Bearing Pointer Select.in bottom row, gives the same result. Is it possible to use another method to couple the GPS?Sticking pieces of tape on the screen to cover these buttons so I can't click them doesn't seem to work!!!(Just kidding)Rodger.

Guys,I just uploaded a new DLL to Avsim. Here is a description of the utility:The FlyStart DLL provides a simple way of defining and loading aircraft startup positions. You define aircraft startup locations by slewing to an airport location and pressing a defined keystroke. The DLL will save one startup location for every airport in Fly II. The aircraft orientation is saved in addition to the location. Saved startup positions are loaded by pressing another keystroke, which loads the startup position for the nearest airport. The FlyStart DLL installer will install the DLL and the user manual. The FlyStart DLL may be used with or without the FlyStart user interfac…
