Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

  1. Started by michal,

I've asked this several times and no one seems to know what the answer is, so if anybody knows please, please tell me. My question is, what default cities (buildings and what not) comes with Fly!2???? The first time I asked I was told dallas, chicago, san francisco, LA, and New York. Then I discovered there was no dallas, or chicago. Then the answer became New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Then Paris was added to the list. For a while people who replied to my previous posts regarding this question seemed to firmly believe that the final answer was: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris. Well, I recently discovered that Vancouver is default in Fly!2…

I was checking previous uploads to get an idea on format, etc. for uploads and noticed the TRI's high detail scenery for New York and San Francisco are no longer in the AVSIM data base, the files are still listed but they are empty -- same for all the Map Pack folders. Is something up? How long have they been gone? And for what reason?Don

There I was, enjoying the scenery, flying over Lake Tahoe in my trusty Bell 407 when I encountered a strange alien pyramid. As I drew closer, there was a flash of light, and here is the result. I think I need a new helicopter. On the other hand, this thing may now make it to Alpha Centauri!

Finished the Atlas Air 747-300 and I'll package her up and send her off to the AVSIM server. Here are a few shots I took on my last test flight from KSAN to KLAX. I need a bit of help setting up my 8500LE. Runs fine on everything else using the new ati catalyst drivers. But all I get in FlyII is aircraft textures and panels, the rest is just blue. Any thoughts?

  9. I've noticed from the first time I landed and shut-down the Hawker that when pulling the fuel controls back to cutoff from idle (in order to turn off the engines), the sound of the engines unrealistically "jumps" to a higher pitch before scrolling down to shutdown. I noted the same effect with the PMDG 777. Am I doing something wrong in shut-down? For example, are engines supposed to be throttled up before fuel cutoff, and so what I'm hearing is my own inaccurate shut-down from idle?-DK----Fly! 13. I notice that when setting the course indicator on the Pilatus EFIS to LOC1 or LOC2 modes, the arrow seems to stick in a certain direction once tuned and cannot be turned. As a result, its not possible to fly the course. I've read the manuals backwards and fowards and can't seem to figure out why I can't turn the course nob once the EFIS is tuned to LOC1.Thanks.-DK----David KohlFly! Here are a few shots of the island of Hawaii that I've been playing with off and on for a year now. Since much of the land use data for Hawaii appears corrupt in Terrascene I used some highly detailed shapefiles available from a government site for the county of Hawaii. I used a mixture of textures from Fly 2 and HITW's original texture pack for Fly/Fly2K. The lava is a modified HITW texture. PhotoShop Elements is a wonderful tool (as is TerraScene -- goes without saying). You'll notice in the first shot I patched in an aerial photo I found of Hilo. Overlaying this exactly on top of a terrascene rendering the airport runway is slightly to the north of where Fly 2 has place…

Does anyone actually use the multiplayer feature in FLYII? I have been on the TRI server several times in the past week. To the best of my knowledge, I was the only person. Except once, there was a guy parked on a runway in Australia...Or, to I just have bad timimg?

I have SB ver 3.02 running with FLYII. I can connect to the IVAO server with no problem. When I attempt to file a Flight Plan I get the following response..."(PRIVATE (SERVER)) You are not allowed to Mutlticast!"No, that was NOT a typo. I assume the error meant "Multicast". Nevertheless, can anyone shed some light on what the error might mean? I would love to try this feature/add-on to my flight sim.Thank You!
