Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

We have a great sim that almost nobody knows of......What can we do as a community to get people be aware of this sim?How can we spread the word when there is no advertising?Software stores doesn't know about Fly2 at all......There is almost a problem here in Norway to get it!!What can we do to get the developing going? We have to atract customers!!I'm doing a lot of PR on the Norwegian forums, and I have managed to open a lot of eyes by posting my screenshots, advertising the PMDG,RealAirSimulaton,ROTW,and not least, all the one man development's going, and all the other products for Fly2.Just so the F$ clan and the fly2 owners can see that it is alive and moving forward in …

Hi!Today I received NVIDIA's newsletter and a link to a 30 day trial offer for Earthview 3D. You've got to try it, it's simply awesome. Here's what it says about it:"FREE 30-day trial exclusively for NVIDIA GPU OwnersTour the world with your NVIDIA GPU! Finally flyscripts sees this fine airplane. I have taken many flights so far but it seems that while flying under atc control (cleared for takeoff), when I am near my letdown point I get turned around heading back to my airport of origin. Any ideas? Do I have to manually enter ILS freg's now also? I got a lot of sim time in for sure. Remember when you made your first landing at Meigs that wasnt dister? White lines for a runway..lol..Are failures type options going to be available ever? One other thing. Slow down early and and descents work fine. Use spoilers to maintain 250 knots and under, 10,000 feet and below while descending. Practice touch and gos and learn how to mai…

G'day all,Ah decisions, decisions,Functionality - versus - visual reality. No fence sitting allowed! You can't have it both ways. I'm not in the same league as ROTW :-) I'm thinking of replacing the Hawker O/Head panel with the screen below. This of course would negate realistic engine starting (back to the E key ), all lights etc would have to be keyboard operated. So what's the verdict?Back to the E key orturn a blind eye to visualsEdit: I am of course refering to the DC-9 aircraft by Jean Sabatier and Roberto Vigetti.Cheers,Roger @YSSY

Hi AllAfter a long while of silent activity, With the enormous help of Jean Sabatier. There is now the 727 available for FLY! 2k. This has been done because I still believe that there are some of us who still use the older version, and I hope to keep the interest going. Pleas download from the library and enjoy. Stay tuned for more airliners, including a Lockheed Tristar.Pat Martin

Hey All --It's been a while since I have posted. I recently got a new computer with an AMD Athlon XP 1700+, 512 MG RAM, and a PNY GeForce4 Ti4600 in it. I am wondering if any of you guys know of a way to make my monitor brighter, because it is really dark, but the brightness and contrast is on max in the monitor settings. Is there a tweak utility out there that can do the trick? Also, right now, my new computer is not hooked up to the internet, so I can't do the TS because of the USG/DEM data. Is there any way for me to download it, burn it on a CD-R, and move it to my new computer? Thanks,

Hi All,As a long time MAC / X-Plane user, I purchased the original FLY for the MAC and was really disapointed by the performance. (Frame rates, etc...) I recently bought a PC ( P4-2.2 w/500DDR and a GF 4 MX).I have been using FS2K2 with the PSS A320. It's been a huge improvement over my MAC experience. I would like to give FLY2 a shot with the PMDG 777, but I have heard that FLY 2 has problems. Can you guys please give me some advice on installing FLY 2 and patching it properly? Most appreciated,Astro

To those dedicated individuals who work so hard at making Fly! II the best simulator ever, please don't take offense, but...Is this the part where I rest my case? Fly! II, with its current user base, is economically non-viable. I never said that the product was dead. Only that in so far as future development of the Fly! II platform is economically driven, there is little to no impetus. Consequently, we must rely on a smaller group of non-paid individuals. This makes the introduction of new aircraft significant slower, particularly if the modeling group takes the time to introduce flight systems that are true to the aircraft being modeled. And let me point out that I was me…

  20. Hello Folks,I've just bought the European edition of FlyII and I wondered if I could find some decent checklists for the Aurora & Peregrine. I hand wrote some based on the automatic cues in the original Fly but they seem to have sped this up considerably in FlyII and I've long since lost them! The walkthrough in the manual for starting the Peregrine is a great read but it has some inconsitencies in terms of what you actually can see on the various panels. Has anybody produced a comprehensive guide?P.S. I'm having great fun with this!CheersJames

  21. I just wanted to acquaint this audience (no other sinister motives)what some developers FS2002 have been up to lately. These are 'rendered' panels so fall under the same category as FLY panels but the amount of extra fancy texturing make them really (IMO) exceptional work of arts. Notice subtle wear&tear efects of materials. This is btw from the Eurowings project coming soon. Marcel Felde is the virtuoso responsible for all this 3D work. We are looking here at the ATR-42. There will also be a BAE-146 and A-319 in this collection.Michael J.http://www.ew-projekt.de/report-atr/03.jpghttp://www.fsfd.de/pictures/ATR_OVHD.jpg

I have found a site, that contains a lot of airport information (AIRNAV.COM). I did a search for KSFO (San Fran.) and found a lot of info. One section I don't understand is:IC: 134.5 135.1 351.8 PTC: 118.2 Does any one know what the "IC" section is for. I notice one military freq. of 351.8. Perhaps a freq. that the military would use for their approach? Any ideas? Thanks, jim b

this new sim features a complete and very accurate instrument panel as well as a flight model second to none of the Cessna 172. Pilots who want to practice IFR prcedures from their chair can do so without having to spend thousands of dollars. It sells for $29.99 and it is already available at your local software vendor. tony
