Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

  6. For those of you who have downloaded Jim Donlin's new Cleveland-Hopkins Intl. scenery, these updates will bring the runways and approaches up-to-date. I was not able to get rid of the offset for the Rwy 24L localizer (yet :-)), but it will put you "in the neighborhood". Everything else appears to be on the money.Homing in on the new Rwy 6R - the new 6R localizer will put you right on the centerline http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d3b11595001a5d2.jpg Taxiing in - Jim's done a great job on this scenery! http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d3b118b5061c5f6.jpg

I can't help but be thoroughly impressed with the liveries that people are churning out for the 727 - 777. Given all the liveries that are out there for the 727, is there anyone who would be interested in taking on a paint job for a re-creation of PSA (Pacific Southwest Airlines) and also the smile on the nose??? :-jumpyAnother one that would be very cool to have (and very retro) would be a repaint of the MD80 in AirCal colors (remember them???)Then there's Western airlines, both schemes (when they were their own airline, and after being bought by Delta).I think it would be a great homage to the airlines of yesteryear to let them live again, at least in electronic form.…

I noticed that of all the aircraft in Fly2k, the Hawker is the only aircraft that doesn't seem to report altitude at all when flying with VATSIM (or SATCO as it used to be called). I recall reading this had to do with the way the transponder was coded and was curious if anyone knew or had a fix for this. Robert

Hi,Attached you will see a few screen shots of Jarno's Beech 1900D. During the last week we have worked on improving the cockpit views for this plane a bit. While the cockpit essentially still is a KingAir 200 cockpit, the views now are drastically different. Most important, the engines have been removed from the views, just like in reality. This allows for a great view of the environment. Also Bosco Leal's GPS addition has been incorporated, as well as A. Spellbinder's center post. The latter with some modifications: 1) some perspective was put in the picture (tapering of the post); 2) wind shield whipers were added.I took the liberty of adding/changing the rear views by…

Since there is a texture needed to finish the Southwest 737, I thought I'd whip up a livery that doesn't need to have a reversed graphic on the rudder. I've always like this particular livery so I chose this one to do a little more exploring with the textures. The rudder unfortunately doesn't seem to be a stright texture placement, there needs to be some mis-alingnment necessary in the painting stage to get the surfaces to line-up. You can see the mis-alignment in the screenshot. Reminds me of painting PMDG 757/767 for Fly!2K.Anyway, it just crossed 11:00 pm PST and my wife has admonished me to quit for the night.Later,Pete

Giorgio, thank you for releasing these airplanes. They're fine additions to our fleet of heavies. Is it possible to get a modification to the model on the 737? As you can see on the attatched screenshot, we need a right side rudder texture. I've only played with this a little while so there may be additional request from me. Thanks again,Pete

  18. Hi all, This past week I took a trip to Colorado, on one leg of the return trip yesterday we flew in a 767. After the flight came to an end I asked the captain if I could look around the cockpit, he said sure and after a little bit of friendly chat I told him that I was working towards my PPL and he said in that case have a seat. So there I was sitting in the left seat of a 767 and I realised that I knew where everything was and what I needed to do to get this bird started and flying. Yes I know that it is more difficult than that, but still here I was in a big aircraft and I could make sense of it. Pretty cool! The only reason that I knew these systems was because of FLY…

All this talk about keeping Fly! II alive has inspired me to create something for the community. I've created this new TBM 700 repaint that I hope to upload in the next few days. I should note that I've used (with permission) some of the textures from Grant's TBM repaint. I should mention that this is not an original design...its an existing paint scheme I found on the internet. Here are some pics:http://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...bmrepaint_1.jpghttp://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...bmrepaint_2.jpghttp://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...bmrepaint_3.jpghttp://home.earthlink.net/~finsdad/FlyII/p...bmrepaint_4.jpgHope you guys like it. Hello everybody,Quick question regarding the PA-161 released by ROTW.I am doing the IFR rating on a similar plane in real life, and find the combination of FLYII/ROTW most useful.Using FLYII, and in comparison with other aircrafts, the RTOW warrior seems extremely sensitive to control inputs (pitch, bank and flaps deployment, for example). I have set all 3 exponential sliders to 100%. Any special settings/tweaks required for this plane ?If this has already been extensively discussed in the past, I apologize. Thank you for any inputs. Here are my computer/soft/settings specs:AMD-TBIRD 900Mhz512Mb RAMGeForce 2-32MBCh-Products yoke and pedals.FlyII new install, patched to 23…
