The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

All of you who might think that Fly!2 is "dead", but don't want it to be:I am sure that among you, there might be some good C++ people, scenery people, aircraft people, etc.Could you please email me at [email protected] - please attach your developer abilities. I am particularly interested in C++ skills - anything that has a history of flight-sim related work should be detailed as well. Thanks,

After applying patch 230, I get a problem with the graphics. Polygones and undefinable objects are drawn all over the place. I have changed the adapter from Matrox G400 to Nvidia Gforce2 MX400 and also changed the drivers and tried several versions of the drivers, but this does'nt help. Well, I can ofcourse leave the 230 patch and run on 210. Have anyone else run into this problem, and found a sollution?Regards Erlend

Who here thinks JimmyBob, Larry and Michael are each separate personalities of the same multiple-personality individual? You know that would have to be *sorta* fun, getting to argue with yourself in a public forum over the silliest issue... Gate-crashing it may be, but "they" prolly don't even know it!:-lolOk, ok. I apologize to all three of you... It wasn't very nice of me, but it struck my funny bone when the possibility popped in my head this too early morning. With apologies,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif

There has been alot of activity here lately, and some questions asking about the current status of Fly!. I felt it only fair to give everyone a status on what has happened since the beginning of the year. For those keeping score at home, official funding on Fly! II ran out in April 2001. During the summer and fall of 2001, we attempted to pitch Fly! III to a large group of publishers. There was absolutely NO interest. We've seen light interest in combat flight sims, and some interest in "fantasy" flight sims (ala Crimson Skies), but absolutely no interest in GA sims. This became even more obvious after 9/11 -- no one wanted to be associated with a PC simulator where you co…

I'm going slightly mad....After struggeling with a graphics problem (that was solved by running DirextX 8 T&L) I got problems with the game controller (Microsoft Sidewinder Pro), that I solved by replacing the Sound adapter (disabled the onbord sound adapter), and now I thought everything should work, but now it's like there is a brake on the planes. It's almost impossible to pick up enough speed to lift of, and the plane responds like a whale.I planned to join a fly-in this sunday, (that's why a bought a new motherboard & CPU and installed WinXP), but right now this seems go down the drain. Arrrrrghhhhh...Please, anyone - help!:-vuur Erlend

Made a couple of exploratory flights with the Citabria and the PA-28 over the Big Island tonight. Here are a few shots for your enjoyment. I must say that Don did an excellent job with his rendering of Hawaii. The lava looks very real and beautiful from above. Keep up the good job with the other islands. Thanks again, Don. Cheers.http://www.flyskyward.com/1.jpghttp://www.flyskyward.com/2.jpghttp://www.flyskyward.com/3.jpg

And if so, screenshots??Pascal was good enough to produce that tutorial, and I was wondering if any of you have used it to create scenery? The steps are long and tedious, but if memory serves, the results are spectacular!I personally would LOVE to get my hands on some already "modified" texture sources (with the "drop" shadows in and all) so I could plug them into TS and roll my own scenery. But I guess there'd be a copyright issue with distributing the textures, eah?-Greg

I thaugh of a quick way of doing taxiways earlier that produces very good results. You can obtain them online but you will not get all of them. If you goto your local airport you will find the airport facility directory. Just scan the ones you want and import into taxiway editor and sizeup. Works great. This post was ment for some people beause they may not know how to create them. If you need anymore help I can help.

I can remember us questioning the future of Fly!2 several months ago, but what it all really boils down to is what direction TRI are going in terms of the Fly! series.I for one would just like a straight answer from TRI, I think I already know the answer, but there is always a little hope.I would be grateful for a little information Richard, just some simple answers as to whether TRI are finished with any more future Fly! products, or are you still looking for a new publisher. If you are indeed finished with the Fly! series, can we as a group (as discussed before) - look at other alternatives for future enhancements. It has been playing on my mind for so long now, I really …

After reading the "A Challenge To The Fly! II Community" thread I had a question. Would the Fly/Fly2k/Fly2! developers be interested in something like this: A web site devoted to ongoing projects for fly. Developers could post their project at the current stage including the code and raw data for all to see and download. Kinda like to open source guys do. This would have a few cool effects. Some people like myself learn faster from example. Taking a peek at the files of your project will help others learn how to create/improve addons for fly. You other developers could help each other if you should have a question or get stuck on something. This may make it easie…

I have recently discovered something that may help lots of people. I had a ATA66 hard drive and recently converted to an ATA100 hard drive. With the ATA66 FLY2 would go maybe 15 or less frames a sec. Now with the ATA100 it just flys! Its never been so smooth!

Hello everyone:Last evening, while trying to fly out of JFK, my unit crashed to the desktop and revealed this error message:"Cant load texture Datad2031597917A3514.raw file not foundfile: Texture.cppline: 1376"Obviously, without this file, I am unable to start a flight plan from JFK, (or for that matter I assume be able to fly into JFK). Would someone be so kind as to send me the file ([email protected]) or direct me to its location?Thank you in advance for your help.Curtis
