The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi all,I've just uploaded version 1.5 of the Advanced Checklist. It's got various minor bug fixes and some new checklists: TBM 700, Malibu Mirage, and King Air B200 (the latter two need some cleaning up, but they'll do for a start). New to this version is the ability to map keystrokes to some of the checklist functions: click the "Check" button, toggle the notes window, click the "Reset" button, and select the next checklist in the pop up menu. Having key assignments for these four functions really makes using the Checklist easier. However, I did not assign defaults for these functions, you'll have to manually set them up. In addition to these new key assignments, keystro…

Here are a few screenshots from the races Robert "Helibird" and I had today on Fly2 multiplayer at Stead Field in Reno! We raced our blue and red Bell 407's, and also in Stearmans. We took a break from the races, with a short flight to Reno Tahoe airport. Then, it was back to Stead for a few more trips around the pylons at night in our copters! There's nothing like flying around pylons at night at max speed in your '407 at 100 ft. altitude! :-)After a long exciting day, we packed up and headed home in our copters. We hope you join us for another race next weekend! I may add some additional courses to the scenery.Wayne"SimPilot"

Has anyone ever tried to organize an online fly-in? We see "the other guys" doing it all the time, what about us Fly2ers. Would anyone be interested in something like this? I enjoy the online thing. I haven't had any luck with SB and Fly's server is always empty. Any thoughts?-dajackman

Announcing the first virtual Fly2 multiplayer Reno Air Race! Robert "Helibird and I invite you to participate! We are planning multiple races for different types of aircraft, including both fixed wing and helicopters. I have designed a special TerraModels 2.2 add-on scenery for the occasion. This is an approximate layout of the Biplane and Formula One race course, with six pylons. It is based on an official map of the course. Also included is a large spectator area with a tower for the announcers! I just uploaded the scenery to the AVSIM library, so it should be available soon. This new Reno air race scenery is designed to complement and work with Dominique Klein's te…

I admit it - I'm addicted to TerraScene. However, to make my flight experience a bit more enjoyable near coastlines and borders with Canada/Mexico, I need to edit the TGA files to remove the base textures that get drawn where no DEM data exists. Can someone recommend a reasonbly priced program that can both edit TGA's and convert TGA's to/from JPG (so that I can import the TerraScene packs of other countries posted here on AVSIM)?I know JASC's PaintShopPro is right-on, but that's a $90 package. I wasn't thinking of spending quite that much.Thanks.-DK----David KohlFly! II v230Dell 8200 P4/1.8G, 512MB RAM, Nvidia GF4 Ti4600 v28.83, WinXP Home Edition.CH Pro Pedals and Yoke U…

There was a variable in FLY!2k that would allow you to specify the amount of memory allocated to the replay buffer (SETBLACKBOXMEMORY or something like that). It was set in the FLY.ini file. Does that variable exist for Fly!II - and does anyone out there know what it is?Thanks.-michael

We Fly2 users are truly lucky to have the ROTW team gving us such wonderful aircraft like the TBM700.I thought I would download the PA19 to see what it was like.It took a little effort because the file at AVSIM (approx 4.7MB) has a readme in what looks like a MAC format, so there are lots of black boxes when reading it with notepad - no big deal.Where those extra bits did cause my PC trouble was the camera.txt file. After installation Fly2 wouldn't start and gave me a WinRun error. After a bit of thought I checked the camera.txt file, saw the black blocks again so I changed each block to an enter key stroke, saved the file, then everything went as expected. If you don't hav…

Can anyone shed some light on why this happens, and a solution? For me it only occurs at KSJC and KRNO, the TM airport addons. In this instance at KSJC. I do not have this problem with any other Terramodels airports.Grant

For those of you enjoying Jim Donlin's Shannon airport package, you may have noticed that the ILS approaches for the opposing Rwys 06 and 24 are non-functional. Occasionally Fly! cannot handle opposing runways that share the same frequency for their approaches. Shannon is one of the worst of these - each side basically knocks the other out and you get a reverse signal (back course) and no glide slope. Sometimes these actually work (KCMH, Columbus, Ohio) - sometimes they are correctable (LGAV by PMDG - Athens, Greece).Shannon refused to cooperate, so I have changed the localizer frequency for Rwy 06 by .05 MHz. This will give you full functioning approaches for both ends. …

"Elrond Sorry but the content of the message and the links are outside the limits for AVSIM. On top of which the link is to a sales site for the product."Well I found the post in question earlier and was meaning to reply but time got the best of me. Now I see that it's been removed but I did want to thank Elrond for the kind words. Thank you Elrond. :)Ahhh well. I guess that means I the "flight attendant" version we were working on will have to be put on hiatus, lol. :-lolJust so it's clear, I do respect the moderator's decisions to remove posts, but I wanted to thank Elrond for the nice comments. :)Jak Fearonhow in the world?http://www.howintheworld.comhttp://www.howi…
