Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Am I missing a taxiway update or something? The tarmac appears off center, and I noted several missing taxiways on my way to Rwy 06 for takeoff...-DK----Fly! II v230Dell 8200 P4/1.8G, 512MB RAM, Nvidia GF4 Ti4600 v28.83, WinXP Home Edition.CH Pro Pedals and Yoke USB.

Showed up at the airport for my flight, conditions were at minimums so my CFI left the choice to me if we should go. Since I like having more than 500 feet to react to anything that might pop out of the clouds decided to stay on the ground, depressing at first but then a light at the end of the tunnel :)There's an airshow at the airport this weekend and the Red Baron Squadron is one of the acts performing there. They have their 4 Stearmans tucked away in one of the FBO's hangars...while we were out there dreuling over the planes one of the pilots showed up, wound up giving us a VIP tour of the planes and maintenance trailer they take with them...even got to sit in the c…

Hi all,Just re-installed Fly!II and was playing around when I noticed that even in total darkness, the clouds are still white(ish).Searched the archived threads and could find no mention of it. Is it me or is it a known issue. Any tweaks in the ini file improve this ?Does anyone know of a general fly.ini tweak guide anywhere ?ThanksChris Ehttp://website.lineone.net/~flightsimukAvoid AGP texturing = Better Performance ;)

It has been such a long time since Fly!II tanked on me. This makes me nervous as I have more addon's, custom scenery, custom textures, .dll's, scripts etc then I have ever had.....and it is still working!! :)Typically, for me, once my install of Fly!II starts messing up, I have to re-install from scratch....and with all the addons etc, it makes it a real chore.Anyway, just wanted to throw this out, as I am quite pleased with Fly!II right now. :)Pieter

Or, more accuratly, a GPS question. I was given a simple navigation exercise to perfom for a virtual airline I fly for (www.pierglass.com) The first few "legs" require me to "Fly heading 234, for 8 miles" etc. At each TP, I'll need to describe something in the area. Is there a way, besides dead reckoning, to have the Fly!II GPS "MARK" a spot then tell you how far away from that spot you are?I guess if I was traveling between airports, I could just set the GPS for the airport, fly the proper direction and watch the numbers on the GPS tick off. But what if I'm not over an airport? Is there anyway to do this? Thanks for any help.Pieter

Hi all,Thought I'd post this shot of the Sydney CBD to wet your appetites ;-) I expect to upload the full globe tile TerraScene data files (which are basically complete) this weekend. I was going to upload the Pascal version (enhanced scenery), but, the file size was > 900Mb !!! :-eek So basically, you folks can either just use the stock standard TS scenery, or enhance it yourselves ;-) Once I finish the database files, I need to sort out some performance issues with the 3D models so it doesn't run like a slide show on slower machines...Hope you like the pic (Vin Scimone did some buildings as well as the Opera house and I added to his fantastic work)...http://ftp.av…

Of course the usual error reads:Runtime exception code C0000005 (Exception_Access_Violation) @ Adress005071D3Winrun.ccpLine 165I have already deleted the .hst files from my aircraft directory. It is still not working. Anyone remember how to fix this?ThanksChris Catalano

Took a flight with Scott's NYC scenery and the Twin Towers still in place - sort of a memorial flight commemorating the end of the Ground Zero cleanup last week. Spurs some good memories since most of my life the Towers marked the NYC Skyline. Thought I'd post a screenshot. Hope not to offend anyone. Just thought it sparked a nice memory.-DK----Fly! Helibird, NYCFlyer and I had another enjoyable Fly 2 multiplayer flight this weekend, from Newark Airport, to JFK, and then to Republic Airport in Long Island, NY (FRG). We fly every Sunday at 13:00 EST, and use Roger Wilco voice comms, as well as text chat on Fly 2 Multicom. Come join us next weekend, when we fly in the Lake Tahoe area! Here are some screenshots from our flight from NJ to Long Island.Wayne"SimPilot"

  20. Hi All,Since you all enjoyed my SNJ Pics, I have uploaded the majority of my Oshkosh pics from 2001. I will probably rebuild the SNJ Gallery for larger shots like the Oshkosh ones. Let me know if the quality and layout is acceptable. Thanks. :-)Original Pics are of much higher quality. 1280 x 960. These are 800 x 600 and quality of 4 in Photoshop 6.0.I only have 60mb of webspace across 6 email accounts so I have to spread the FTP uploads around. These took quite a while to compile and upload and Let's just say my ISP servers are not the most reliable an dthere is yet another merger of ISP's coming down the pike in the way of Comcast & AT&T.These will stay up u…

Updates for both LSGG ILS approaches have been uploaded. This corrects the DME readouts and extends the range of both localizers. This is the last of Danny Masson's Swiss airport series - situated in a valley near Lake Geneva, there is rising terrain to the northwest and the southeast. You'll need to follow the STAR carefully - don't descend too quickly to begin the approach. The airport is over the high terrain to port http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cfd879f26ff08ec.jpg On final to Rwy 05 - you can see the lake in the background http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cfd87d527533046.jpg This is a large airport - the runway approaches 13,000' in length ht…

Why not consider joining a virtual airline?America West Virtual Airlines operations are cordinated by a professional dispatcher...you can't beat the realism. No, you don't have to fly smaller planes and "work up to" the 757. Take a look: [www.awva.net]
