The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi all, To anyone using the Advanced Checklist Editor, there is small bug...If you create a new Checklist Project, then add several Checklists. They will be saved in reverse order. The zorder value I use to order the checklists internally is not being set properly.Workaround: Create a new Project, add the Checklists (no need to enter any checkitems), save, close, and (re-)open the project. Use "Project|Organize Checklists..." to organize the checklists the way that you want them and proceed normally.I have a fix and will upload it with the PMDG 757 and PMDG 777 checklists when they are ready.Cheers, Tony

Naples is one of the more dangerous approaches - especially under inclement weather conditions. The real world GS is a little steeper. I have corrected it and will upload it in the future - for now, just be sure to follow the approach procedures. For the ILS/DME Rwy 24, don't descend below 7,000 ft until past BENTO intersection - then descend and intercept the GS. http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cfc40366de574ec.jpg http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cfc405c6e2049f6.jpg Going into Palermo is a beautiful experience. There are two ILS approaches over water: Rwys 20 & 25. I have corrected the DME readouts - these will function properly as long as you…

For those of you that haven't downloaded them, Roberto Vigetti has 2 nice packages: Italy Airports Vol.1 & 2. I was happy to find these - Italy is one of my favorite places! Vol.2 takes you from the top to the bottom of Italy: Torino, Pisa, Naples, & Palermo.Overall the ILS approaches were very useable, but there were a few errors. For now, I have uploaded updates for two airports: Torino & Palermo. Naples also needed correction for the glide slope angles - I will upload this when a future beta patch makes it useable.Starting with the northern airports:LIMF (Torino) is flanked by mountains to the north - needless to say, do not descend below the MSAs on the ap…

Hi again,It's has been tossed out that a working log book would be a nice addition to Fly! II. I'm starting the project now and am looking for requirements. If you have any wants or needs in this area, let me know and I'll do my best to work them into the design.Cheers, Tony

Hi all,Does anyone know if the beta team are considering adding the ability to add overruns to runways. Currently have displaced thresholds - there are plenty of runways out there though that have quite large overruns/underruns. These could be added via the taxiway program if modifying the database is too complex. Just a thought - currently added / amended 278 Australian airfields / runways complete with taxiways ;-) To be uploaded very soon ;-)Cheers,Danny VickersAustralian Fly! GroupTupolev Tu-154 Project

First off i apologize for posting this here but I wanted to let people know that we have a new beta test going on and the call has gone out for testers. The project is not related to flight simulation in any way but since I've worked with so many people here and a lot of you know me I hope it's all right to ask in this forum. :)If you're interested, please see this post at our forum: http://www.howintheworld.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/...3067524&start=0Thanks!Jak Fearonhow in the world?http://www.howintheworld.comhttp://www.howintheworld.com/hitw-images-misc/banner.jpg

What is the name of the program for Fly!2 that takes national raw METAR readings and "thins" the readings so that only those areas of the map along the flight plan have METAR loaded? Is this program in the AVSIM library? Upon searching for the word "METAR" under the Fly!2 heading, I only found "Autoweather".Thanks.-DK----Fly! Hi,I was just wondering if anybody else noticed that the COM1 on the military version of the TBM700 by ROTW has a little problem. At least for me the decimals of the active frequency are modified when I put my cursor on the integers of the standby frequency. The standby frequency integers cannot be modified. This problem does not occur with the original TBM700.Feedback is appreciated. Thanks.Henri

Hi all,As you all probably know, version 1.3 is now available. This version has sound support. I, however, have a terrible speaking voice. :-) So, I didn't record anything for the Flyhawk's checklist. I'm hoping that some of you closet thespian's will take up the challenge and submit your customized checklists avec sound files. Over the coming week or two, I'll upload the checklists for the PMDG 757 and 777, the Socata TBM-700, the Citabria and Decathlon, and the Pilatus PC-XII, as well as a revised Flyhawk checklist (with emergency procedures). They won't have sound files associated with them, but should do for a start...Cheers, Tony

Hi Folks,Well, I fulfilled one of my dreams today. I got to take a flight in a WWII plane. My Host was Tom Buck, a local pilot who owns a TBM-Avenger and a SNJ-6 Trainer.I have hosted these on my own website. I took a total of 123 pictures. Don't know if I will upload them all or not. Each was 1280 x 960 in size and has been reduced to 800 x 600 for easy viewing. I wanted to keep them all together, so I apologize for posting 13 of them. We just don't get enough real world pics.Todays flight was in a 1945 North American SNJ-6. Which means it is 57 years old. It has a 600 Horsepower AN 1340 Wasp Engine. That is a lot of ponies. The color scheme is WWII United States Marine …

Hi all,Relevant Link here:http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...rum=DCForumID47Some have asked me to upload the rest of the pics. I cleaned out some old files and created a gallery for the pictures. There are two versions, Frames, and no frames. The no frames version will open a new window with the pic.I only had 10mb of space so these are all snapshot size for you to look at. I have also reduced the quality a little so they would fit. The originals are 1280 x 960.Let me know if you were able to view these or not. Thanks for the nice comments. I do appreciate them.Regards,Joe :-waveOnce you are on the page, just click on a picture and you will be shown a large…

Recently I uploaded scenery for KROC. In creating that scenery I used the Fly! II editor. Here is the breakdown using the Fly! editor:POD 3,597,560 bytes (3513 KB)ZIP 430,856 bytes (421 KB)I then used the Pod Creator by Didier Rigault that was recently uploaded to the library. Here is the breakdown using the Pod Creator:POD 288 bytes (0.28 KB)ZIP 514 bytes (0.50 KB)That is a tremendous saving of disk space and everything ran well on my computer. Will that be the case on all computers and that is my problem. If the Pod Creator can save that amount of disk space it would be foolish of me to upload a 421 KB file when I could do the same with a 0.50 KB file.I would welcome com…

Hello all,I've uploaded version 1.2 of my Advanced Checklist add-in. This version provides a Checklist Editor that makes it easy (at least I hope so) to edit checklist files. I've also enhanced the format of the XML files and included DTD files that will validate checklist files to make sure they conform to what Checklist.DLL expects and also to provide better error reporting. The new format provides for sound file and check item notes. However, Checklist.DLL presently ignores them (soon to be corrected as time allows). If anyone has any requests for additional features, please let me know and I'll see what I can do. :-beerchugCheers,TonyP.S.: If there are any projects, in…
