Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I periodically encounter invisible obstructions along runways and taxiways, particularly at airports with custom TM scenery. Below is an invisible crash on the KSWF taxiway just prior to the longer runway (sorry, cannot recall the runway #, but this was the east end of the longer runway).I've noted such obstructions at KTVL just short of the runway. I've encountered one at KTRK along a taxiway, and another at East Hampton while exiting the runway. The only commone element is that all the airports with invisible obstructions seem to be airports with TM's.How do I identify them and move them? I've not yet used TerraModels and I was not the individual who created the TM scen…

  4. Can someone explain what this is an how it is caused? Scenery was generated with TerraScene (latest version) and default settings. Location was just West of the Hudson River about 20 miles south of KSWF heading south. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Mostly I see it in mountainous areas (Rocky Mountains, for example). In those cases, the "tearing" seems to flicker and appear/disappear depending on altitude, proximity, etc. In this case, this tear seemed to linger.Thanks.-DK----Fly! To our friends at ROTW:I'm about to download "Corse1 and Corse2" for Fly!II, (obtained from the AVSIM Library) onto my machine. The installation instructions in the english read me file tells me that I must download the .dex for airports, comm and runways and download the Taxiways. I am instructed to use "DB Import" to extract the 3 .dex files. I went to the Simvol.org site to obtain the required files but the entire site is in French. Can someone from ROTW tell me exactly which files I need? Can I also get a english read me installation file for those particular files? I don't want to screw-up my machine by putting a file in the wrong folder!!Thank you in advance f…

My favorite topic again - FPS! I bought and installed a new NVidia GF4 Ti4600 this week. I was expecting a huge jump in rates in the NYC area. I have Scott's NY sceneries (LGA, JFK, NYC, LI, NY2). So this is an area that has a lot of buildings (TM's). Hi All,I've purchased PMDG's 757 and 777. I've also purchased RealAir Simulations' Citabria & Decathlon. All of which are spectacular aircraft. My question is: are there other commercially available aircraft for Fly! II that are implemented to the same quality as PMDG or RealAir Simulations (or for that matter ROTW's brilliant freeware--after training on a Warrior II, I was delighted to be able to climb into the cockpit of ROTW's version)? I absolutely love tackling new aircraft. And would like to (much to my better half's chagrin) tackle some more, but only if modelled to the same standard as the aforementioned products.Cheers, Tony

Hello Everyone,I have recently completed a set of additions to my Fly II aircraftcockpits ... which incorporates a "tighter cockpit feel" as one viewsthe outside world from the pilot's perspective. I find thatit adds to my "cabin experience" ... and complements the othercockpit views. Since a "picture is worth a thousand words" ...I am attaching a pic of of my work on the following aircraft( in order from the top )Peregrine, Sahara, Kodiak, Pilatus and Aurora. The left side shows the default views from the cockpit, the right side shows my additions ... If there is any interest ...I was thinking of uploading to the library ...Regards !Spellbinder

....the SIMVOL web site says that a Mac version of the TBM700 is in the works (at least I think that's what it said -- the translation web site I used was understandably "choppy").Do you have an estimate on when it might be ready? Thanks for everything you've done for our community.Regards,

  13. Hi Folks,This is just my list of a few files available to you in the Avsim Library. I have provided links with descriptions to these tools and files. This is just my personal list, and I know there are many other files that others use as well. There are a ton of viable add-ons to help make your Fly!II flights more enjoyable. If you have any concerns, please list them and we will all walk you through it.For Scenery, Terrascene 2.1 is the best program I have found yet. And of course, it is Free. Todd has poured his heart into that one, and it is extremely easy to turn out scenery. You will also most likely want to experiment with different skies, or render.ini's.I use diff…

As promised, this is a realy early cut on the TWA 757. I didn't like the effects I was getting with my Windows Photoshop 5.0 LE so I've upgraded the software and will be redoing all of the 757's with this newer version. The primary graphic I want to show is the stylized globe on the fuse, which I think I've been able to capture quite well. The rest of the livery is just resizing and aligning. The aft door will be moved forward, something I'am doing on all of my repaints, to clear the aft angled graphics. Comments on any of the proposed repaints are welcome.Pete

Guys,Terramodels Version 2.2 has been released and is now in the Avsim library. Here is a list of modifications included in this release: I: Ground marker objects (polygons) can now be irregular shaped with a user-definable number of points. II: Added "Select nearest object" mode. In this mode, clicking on the background image will select the closest object. This is very useful for selecting small objects like taxiway signs. III: Added support for "Diffuse Lighting". You can brighten/darken an individual object, or an entire scenery set (except for static models). IV: Completely changed the handling of static models to support 3rd party POD files (…

Here's the first cut on the TWA/AA Hybrid 757 livery. It's actually pretty close to being finished. I'm figuring out how to apply the my completed textures to the exsisting model. The paintkit may make things easier, so I'll wait for it's release before posting this one to the AVSIM server. Here are some screenshots. If you haven't tried the wipers, select a speed on the overhead panel and watch them at work. How many other aircraft can list working windshield wipers?Pete

Dear friends of Fly!II,I decided to post this article not because I have a problem with Fly!II, I post this article because I am afraid, that this great simulator will lose more and more influence in the Simulator-market. Just some days ago, I read a post here in the forum, were another Flyer had announced, that he will quit Fly!II. That makes me very sad.I often think about the old Fly!1
