    Just went through the first 10 pages and found lots of good information but I still have a question.I want to make some objects for Dauphin Island (AL) like beach houses on stilts, a lighthouse, civil war fort, etc. I have FSDS which I have only used for designing airplanes, and Airport 2.6 which so far I only know how to place objects. Will these two programs do the job, or is there something else I should get? I also would like to use existing textures like Nova or whatever.I need to go with freeware this time as I just got layed off.Your suggestions are most appreciated,John Woodward

    Maybe someone can help me with this error message. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong now. I'm trying to make a simple box to export in to FS2002 just to see how it works!First GMAX tells me that my box isn't stored in meters. But I did change the unit so I don't really understand the first error I get.Secondly I get an error in the export process. I have attached the error log right below. Hi,I've just started a project to add some (more) authentic buildings to Manhattan, but I've come up against a very basic problem that I can't solve.Gmax is fine, texturing the buildings is fine, importing them to FS2002 is also fine, but I cannot figure out how to use the EXCLUDE line properly in the scenery.cfg file.I want to remove all of the generic buildings from Central Park South, but the coordinates I'm using seem to only remove a few of the buildings.     Is there a way to import a background picture into GMAX that is correct in its real life dimensions? I have a 2,4, and 8 meter/pixel aerial shot of an airport and building placement would be a whole lot easier if I could import one of these pictures so that it stays scaled correctly. Airport lets you do this by specifying the scale of the photo. I didn't see any option like this in GMAX.

    I'm working on a terminal building that is about 450 meters long. The first time I designed the building, I exported it fine to check its size in the FS world. There were several different objects within GMAX that comprised the building. Textures were NOT added to all objects. The building exported and showed up fine in FS2k2. I went back into GMAX to export again (so as to tweak the Lat/Long). Now I get the same damn error every time I try to export.     Can anybody tell me where I can find the default water textures for FS2K2 and what I can use to view them. I want to cover over some land with, Airport for Windows, but can't find the default light blue water and dark blue water that surrounds islands in the Pacific. Another question I have is that when I build my island with AFW the plane sinks in the dirt as if it is sinking in water. Including all the sprays and splashes.     I am mapping a custom bitmap on the ground. When I paint the place of a lake black and save it as an alpha channel, save it as DXT1, I am not getting water, I only get a transparent patch that makes FS ground beneath visible.Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

    Hello all!I am wanting to design scenery for FS2002 but have never attempted in the past, other than LAGO scenery enhancer. For starters, I want to edit the landscape around my local airport to be more realistic. Currently FS2002 features loads of relatively flat, green forest, but in reality it is hilly agricultural land with rows and rows of grape vines! I would also like to add buildings that do not currently exist in the sim. Additionally, I would like to edit the airport itself with proper building placement, custom building shapes, ect...     Has anyone else noticed this: I am creating curved taxiways for an airport. I have an overhead picture for the background so I can position everything correctly. I start by outlining the curves rather roughly. Then I zoom in and make them smoother. However, once I reach a certain zoom the background picture distorts and then disappears (anyone know about this?). That is not my main problem though. If i zoom in to the max and smooth the curves out everything looks good until I zoom out or compile and look at the curves in FS. It seems that as I zoom out, my once smooth curves turn out to be jagged. In FS they are definitely not smooth. So it seems that as you zoo…

    I hope some of the scenery gurus here can explain why this happens.After the recent threads about enabling 3D stereo in FS with red/blue glasses I decided to try it for myself.The effect is pretty good except for add-on scenery.If I fly over default scenery I get the 3D effect and can see the two red/blue images if I don't use the glasses. However if I go to any of my add-ons (mainly airprots) there is only a single 2D image but outside the add-on boundry the red/blue images are there.Just curious why this happens.TIA

    1. Has Anybody experienced a problem with GMAX whereby you apply textures, and they look fine in GMAX, but they don't look right in FS2002?. They're slightly offset, and go around corners a bit.2. Does anybody know how to use textures from more than one BMP file on a model in GMAX, when I try to do this, the 2nd texture that I choose completly replaces the first one.3.     After i make my model in G-max and exporting it through middleman with keep files ticked it creates some filesaccording to the manual two of these files are (name of file).asm (name 0f file)_0.asm . when i go to the directory where the files are i have Name of file eg test.asm and test.azmdoes anyone else have this problem or is it just me, is this AZM file suppose to be test_0.asmThanksGreg

    I have followed the instructions in the MS gmax scenery tutorial and copied the makemdl.exe file into c:gmaxplugins folder.Completed my terminal building and the texturing. I had a go in exporting into the FS but got this message'MakeMDL was not found. or failed to convert the model specified in c:program filesMicrosoft gamesFS2002ADDON SCENERYMyscenerysceneryterminal' to a MDL file.
