We are now about two weeks(depending on where in the world you are)into FS9/FS2004/COF(whichever).Obviously thousands(probably hundreds of thousands) of copies have been sold and I suspect that the users of forums like these represent only a tiny percentage of the total. In addition ,I believe that users of these forums are probably -1; more demanding of FS than the average user, and 2:More inclined to "fiddle" with it and try to "improve" itWhat I would like to do is ask all readers three questions----1:Are you glad you bought FS2004(yes or no).2:Are you satisfied with FS2004- if not why not?(Qualify your answer in as much detail as you like)3(Within reason)What one thin…

I own ActiveSky, but have been reluctant to use it so far. The question is: is there any benefit to weather, wind, cloud, vis features using FSUIPC WITHOUT ActiveSky, or FSMeteo? Don't care about joystick or hotkeys per se.Noel

I've tried to tweek FS9 and it is working better than when I began but I can't seem to get past the stutters. By stutters I mean that it goes to 1 fps seemingly ramdomly. I've added the average frame rate reading to the FS9.cfg file and here's what I get: {1.0 20.5 24.9} When it's good it's really, really good. When it's bad it's ****. It took me a good 15 minutes to complete a 10 mile final into KCLE with Shez's scenery (gMax) last evening. I was also using Bill Grabowski's ERJ panel and Nick Botamer's FSDSv2 ERJ. These pauses didn't even show up on the fps reading. These pauses were approximately 5 seconds in length. I've tried the fake clouds and that…

Hi All,Firstly, has anyone else had the same trouble finding their .cfg file for FS2004, I can't seem to find mine at all, I have read the above explanation on where it is supposed to be but still can't find it, any help here would be great thanks,(why they never left it in the main FS9 folder is beyond me !)and secondly, I'm having trouble with my trim, I'm callibrated etc and use the Saitek X45 stick and throttle, I used the X36 before that and it just seems to want to climb all the time in the Lear45, even with the autopilot on and alt set and vertical speed set it still bursts the altitude etc, again any help here would be great thank you.Steve,

I installed PNY Fx5200 AGP 128 mb DDR card and I don't have panel or guages in 2d panel mode in FS2004. Ok on virtual cockpit. Have tried drivers that came on CD and latest 44.03 from Nvidia. Running windows ME on dell pentium 3-1 ghz-512 meg ram--windows ME. On previous post I was told to get 45,20 or 45.23 drivers at guru but they are listed for XP operating system. If anyone is using the GeForce FX 5200 w/128 mb whate drivers are you using and do you have all panels & guages or just black screen in 2D mode. Fs2004 worked ok on my old Geforce2 Pro, but a little jerky. Help please as I have to return it before 10 more days to get refund. Thanks Chuck

.... or is just *locally* dynamic. Now I've done one or two experiments just around local zones where thin overcast stratus layers will break up at dusk (absolutely fantastic). But has anyone downloaded a static real weather snapshot, flew half way round a continent, returned to the same place and found the weather significantly different? I haven't done it myself as I haven't had too much time to do it!I'm just thinking that the weather engine would have to do some serious number crunching to calculate changes for every reporting station, and that would just simply drain CPU resources - for background work that you may never benefit from. Or does the weather engine div…

Hi folks,Long time lurker - and I do mean a long time. Thought I'd post as I have a tricky problem and I wonder if anyone has seen the same thing.I've sat at a gate at EGCC (Manchester UK) for ages and not seen a single plane take off when ATC is using 24R for takeoffs. Planes taxi to the runway and stop. The next plane taxis into the waiting plane and merges with it. This continues to happen as more planes taxi into this merged mess of different planes and none of them take off. After a while some of the earlier planes disappear, but planes keep taxiing onto the runway and stopping then merging with the next plane to taxi into the same spot. Anyone any ideas why this is …

Every 12 seconds the sound (engine, environment, all sounds I think) hick-ups or cuts out just for a few tenths of a second. Every 12 seconds almost exactly. This anomally appears only when I have the Garmin GPS displayed. It goes away when I close the Garmin GPS windows. Any one else experience this? Fix or workaround?Larry JonesFlorence, MT

Tell me, of those of you who have upgraded your Ram, does it truly make a difference in this sim? Although I have a new Dell high-end system (2.8 gig), I ordered it a few months ago with only 512 mgs of RDRAM. Someone in my office (a network engineer, in fact) told me that XP really can take advantage of 1 gig of Ram. Is that true, and will I notice better frame rates in MSFS2004? Stan

I have FSBuild2 and I just realised that there are many, many more waypoints in the FSBuild database than there is in the FS2002 one. The result is that I cannot use FSBuild plans because the waypoints that it puts into the flightplan do not exist in FS2002. How do I update my FS database to inlcude all the waypoints in FSBuild, and secondly, how do I update my add on aircrafts (like SSW A310) database so the FMC contains all of these waypoint also? Thanks

I thought I had posted this before but ran a search when I got no response and could not find it. What I wanted is a better sound file for the bell 206. When I click start it is running full throttle and when I click shutdown the sound just stops with no sound shutdown. Is there a better sound file? If not could someone make one? Please. Don

HOW DO YOU TURN OFF THE WIPERS IN THE VIRTUAL COCKPIT?

How many of you have decided that the weather is always going to be pleasant in FS2004? Overcast is just too much of a system killer.Speaking for myself, I am thinking about living in a perpetual summer. It's a bit of a shame, since bad weather adds some fun and challenge, but I much prefer to run at 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 4xAF in fairly clear weather rather than 1024x768 with lots of clouds ... and real-world weather just doesn't seem to be an option--multiple cloud layers turn things into a slide show (with a very slow slide projector).Another thing I'm considering is running at 1600x1200 windowed-mode in typical situations, and setting my full screen to 1280x960. That …

Hi all, I was just surfing Flightsim.com, and found out that Bill Lyons released some of his custom classics as FREEWARE! (sorry if this has been mentioned before, I was on holiday for two weeks so might've missed a previous announcement) Anyway, he uploaded the Swift, Cub and Ryan STA to www.flightsim.com today. I went to his page http://windrfters.com but couldn't find any other info on it except the following: "Our site is down because of traffic overload! We will be uploading the 5 Custom Classics Freeware packages to the major sites in the coming days... It was a noble battle but we have been overwhelmed by the number of downloads and cannot continue to host the file…

Hello all,I'm looking for some rule of thumb numbers for approach speeds. Since there are no speed restrictions in FS2004, I would like to try and mirror the speeds that the AI fly on approach (any where below 10,000 feet) so I dont' get over run by other approaching aircraft.ANy thoughts?thanks-DSN

Sorry, Eaglesoft's Beechjet 400 and Premier are still a "stutterin' slide show" on my high end computer after today's so-called "update". I'm using a 2.8 gig Dell 8250 with 512RDRAM and ATI 9700 Radeon card. Was the latest update supposed to make this plane more usable? I noticed that the update uses the FS9 folder for the update. It does not point to the plane itself if it's installed under aircraft. I believe that's how it's supposed to be upgraded; maybe some of you might know if that is correct.I should receive 512 more of RDRAM on Monday from Dell. Perhaps when I'm up to 1024 of Ram, it'll be better...just not sure. What are your experiences with what were 2 of my fa…

Hi, My FS2002 AC appear to be running OK since I migrated them over to FS2004. I have noticed one thing though when looking at the spot view that the strobes are not working even though I have turned them on in panel view. The logo lights and landing & taxi lights seem to work but it's just the strobes that are not functioning (flashing). Does anyone know of a fix for this, say, do I have to add a line or update a line in my aircraft.cfg file to get the strobe lights to work for any of my migrated FS2002 AC?Thanks for your time,Tom

Last Night while flying VFR down the Outer Banks to Kill Devil Hills, I noticed that the towers were not lit. Flying south from Currituck, you can follow the towers to Nags Head. I see the rotating beacons at airports, but no tower/antenna lights.Has anyone else noticed that towers are not lit? Is it my settings? I flew over the "Three Brothers" at Driver, VA (Three one thousand foot broadcast towers). These were unlit also. I can't find a tower that is lit. I searched the forum and could not find anything on this. Most FS9 sliders maxed.Asus M/b 266FSBAMD XP2100+1 Gig of DDR RamSB Live Gamer XGeforce FX 5900 Ultra (256 MB) 45.23 DriverCH Yoke and Pedals (USB)

Is it possible to have the See_Self option globally turned on in the fs9.cfg file but turned off for specific airplanes? If so, how/where should this be specified? It sure would help fully utilize some third party panels with fs9 aircraft.Stan V.
