Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. A railroading friend sent me a video of a private rail car hooked to the rear of an Amtrak train. I would like to have one and afford to maintain it and crew and it pay to hook it up to the rear of any train going to where I wished to go at the time. I love riding trains. I also love riding in airplanes. And sailing in sailboats. So my question is if you could afford one, but only one, of the following which would you choose? A private rail car? A private business jet? A yacht? Noel

Airbus A321-200, Korea. Everyone is aware of this incident today by now. The questions are: How can this be prevented and still allow ordinary passengers a quick way escape after a crash? Why wasn't he restrained? The answer here is that it was on landing, 700 feet high and the crew was busy. Why did he do this? Nobody knows, but these decades, many of us probably suspect drugs. https://www.fox5ny.com/news/passenger-opens-plane-door-flight-south-korea

The story is on all the American news channels today... -------------- P.S. I did a search in the Avsim search bar above on "Taylor Swift" (including quote marks). And all of these are from different threads! "...it may seem silly to compare Microsoft Flight Simulator to singing sensation Taylor Swift. But there is a close parallel between the two in one important way. Both MSFS and Swift have" "...Miss Taylor Swift jumped out of my bed this morning to make me a hearty breakfast" "...Now let's discuss the effect of Taylor Swift cancelling her concerts will have on the flight model." " I do want a Falcon 50 because Taylor Swif…

That would be Cat 5 Super Typhoon Mawar bearing down on the island, expected to pass near overhead at ~03Z on 24 May 2023. https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/plane-crash-pacific-ocean-coast-half-moon-bay/3234228/ The plane crashed about 40 miles west of Half Moon Bay. It was a Viking Air DHC-6-400 Twin Otter. Now the route it was flying was from Santa Rosa, Ca. to Honolulu, Ha. I was checking the specs on that aircraft and even with extended fuel tanks, the range is about 950 miles. How many fuel stops and where would they be between San Francisco and Hawaii?? 🤔

Still standing after the test. Only one raptor of course, but then the installed plate will have a much larger surface area. It's suggested that the testing has been going on for maybe months.

A recurring question on sites like AVSIM, but a bit of a lark for the Washington Post... Think you can land a plane in an emergency? Pilots explain why you can’t.

And if Hellion Energy don't supply the said fusion power by 2028, then they have to pay Microsoft compensation! Good grief, they are either bonkers or supremely confident that they will indeed be capable of delivering power to Microsoft by that date. https://newatlas.com/energy/helion-microsoft-fusion-2028/

Sure wish Avsim could manage this. Right now I use https://postimg.cc/ which has become painfully slow so am ready to find another. Amazon Prime will host photos and other images but alas the link to the cloud storage doesn't want to work for some reason on Avsim.

Hi, I spotted this news item on Flight Mode Twitter stream that happened this week at Luxembourg with a 747-400F. All ended well fortunately. https://twitter.com/FlightModeblog/status/1658008502235811841/photo/1 This must have taken some force to have the bogie shear off like that. Cheers Mark

Expectant Mommy stopped by in the front yard and startled me with a youngling emerging onto the grass. She settled down eventually, ignoring me and tha' doggy, and went about her business for a few hours while posing for a few hasty phone pics until two newborn bambies were ready to follow her into tha' woods.... Such is living on the edge of a forest...

Here’s the story of a cat named Room 8 A bit of history that I just learned, that touched my sentimental side “Room 8” ( 1947–1968 ) Room 8 was a neighborhood cat who wandered into a classroom in 1952 at Elysian Heights Elementary School in Echo Park, California. He lived in the school during the school year and then disappeared for the summer, returning when classes started again. This pattern continued without interruption until the mid-1960s. News cameras would arrive at the school at the beginning of the year waiting for the cat's return; he became famous and would receive up to 100 letters a day addre…
