Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. A few videos show the type and age and it got me thinking, for these old warbirds do ya'll think they will ever retire them and leave them as static museum pieces? I love seeing the old warbirds flying but don't want to tempt fate losing a piece of history in a crash.

Between Neofly and my personal goal of a trip around the world in the Beechcraft G36, I really wanted to up my sim controls. I spent a bit to get the Logitech Switches and Radio panel. I really like them. I also finally learned that patience is needed when landing. Been trying to put the plane down instead of letting it expend its energy and touch down smoothly. Really started to feel it.

  6. Length adjustment method is at 4:30. Online testers found out that putting this watch under a common LED desktop lamp overnight, charges the battery for about 7 months. Or wear it outside for a couple hours. Radio waves sets the time each day for you. The band and case are both titanium and so it weighs half of the stainless steel model. About $190 on Amazon USA. Stopwatch modes and world zone times and all usual Casio stuff.

From this morning’s San Francisco Chronicle: Man arrested after allegedly parking stolen car at East Bay courthouse “A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle to an East Bay courthouse for an appearance tied to an unrelated separate alleged crime, authorities said. William Fletcher, 54, was booked at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion for possession of a stolen vehicle, said Lt. Jared Hattaway with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dublin police were alerted by one of the city’s license plate readers of a possible stolen car entering the city, Hattaway said. Officers went looking for the vehicle …

I've always wondered why the only two cities that were chosen for nuclear bombs were not turned into nuclear wastelands. Today, both are beautiful cities, and they never were irradiated totally. Both bombs were air bursts, so they didn't raise up megatons of soil and debris, which is what irradiates the ground. I watched a video that explains details on the one dropped on Hiroshima and was totally astounded to learn that although it carried 64 kilograms of uranium, only less than a gram (0.001 kg) actually achieved fission. That is what I find most terrifying, as I can only imagine what might have happened had the full 64 kg actually achieved fission! Frankly speakin…

  13. FLIGHT UNLIMITED (1)... I bought the first version ( floppy disks ) for MS-DOS in 1995 and then it's CD version during a trip to Berlin to attend Java's kick off in late 1997 - all in German 🥴 It's been a long time since I last played FU, but I still retain the experience as UNIQUE and probably one of the very Best I ever had in a desktop flight simulator. FU2 and FU3 were great flightsims too, but not as special flight dynamics wise as FU (1). Interesting to read about the creator of FU 1 - Seamus Blackley : Seamus Blackley - Wikipedia It was the first time I got aware of the reason why he left the project and also Looking Glass Technologies - …

I am alive and well and still installing scenery and aircraft on my new computer here in the old folks home. This morning I installed an old favorite. One I wrote a story about it once. I know I have published it here before but some of you might not have read it. So here it is again. My First Love I was in about the 7th grade. It was after school and I was going to a friend’s house along Van Ness Avenue, the street that all the automobile dealerships were on. I was almost to the corner of Sacramento stree…

Wow, I had no idea the the humble Sky Tractor has taken on a new role as an armed military aircraft! I also did not know that it was capable of a payload equal to its gross weight! It has been used for several years as a drug enforcement aircraft by Homeland Security, and several dozen in the Army as ground support units.

Hi All, A few weeks ago when I build my new PC and had to reinstall MSFS and all its addons, I became acquainted with the new Contrail App (yep - I'm slow to the party here). One of the things that has always frustrated me about the third party addon market is that whilst I try and buy from a single store to keep my purchases in the one place, this is often not possible and over the years my purchases have become spread accross multiple online stores. So I was intersted to learn that Contrail allows me to link accounts at various stores to this single app. Unfortunately, of the stores Contrail has direct links with I only have a FlightBeam acccount and most of…
