I'm Heading from Toronto to Orlando Tomorrow. I'd like to have my family track my flight. Been looking at AirNav's Realtime Flight Tracker, but it's like $65US for 60 hours a month for 6 months, Next is Flight Explorer, but OH MY GOD! 10 hours a month for 10 BUCKS! Your kidding? Then it's 2 Bucks an hour up to 50 hours.Anyone know of a good solution for me? Something a little easier on the Wallet? If Flight Explorer was cheaper, I'd go that route, but It'll take more than the 10 hours to set up the software, and track the flight there and back.Anyone know of a good FREE Webservice or software to track a single commercial flight as well? I've heard people on here say th…

I've been a member here for probably some 3 or 4 years now... I'm not sure if Avsim keeps records of memberships that were created before the new forum system came online, but I think its been at something like 4 years since I've been here. Some guys are still around since I've been here... not counting Tom A. Most are not though... I've seen a lot on these here forums... And even though I dont always talk much and get involved, Sometimes I feel like the forum is my home within my home. Avsim has been my homepage for at least 2 years straight now... anyways... so how long have some of you been members here?

HiI use WinME and when I turned on my computer today I got a pop-up message from the tool bar telling me I had a 'residential gateway device' installed in 'my networks'.What's this? Is it something nasty? As you can guess from this post, I'm no computer expert, so any easy to understand replies/advice would be very welcome. Thanks in advance!Gavin

Last week I posted asking for some information on my upcoming NWA flight in June from STL-MKG, looking for the REG#s on the DC9 and SF3 that I would be on. Being a huge aviation fan, like most here, I wanted this info so that I can just do a history on the birds that I will be on.....nothing new for me. I have done this on many occasions, but with TWA and SWA (where I knew and know employees that would give me the data). I don't know any NWA folks so the information is not as easy to come by.I keep the information for my flight photography (just in case that I am not able to catch the tail number at the gate). I have a log of the hundreds of different planes that I have b…

Saw this sitting on the tarmac at Terrace/Kittimat today - the last remaining Bristol Freighter in the world. It apparently hasn't flown in two years, but the owners (Hawk Aviation Services) are still swearing they're going to get it flying again.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/77761.jpgAll the best,Richard

Good day to all...Today is a sad day for me. I was getting ready to start flight school and went to go get my 3rd class medical today. I knew there might be difficulties because of my type II diabetes (hyperglycemic). I actually don't show any signs of it and my sugar levels are perfect due to the atkins diet, and a low dosage prescription my doc has me on. Any way I was honest on the form and even though they couldn't find any signs of diabetes in my urin test(s) they automatically denied me.The next step is my primary care doc has to write up a summary of my treatment and results to give back to the AME to submit to the FAA. I also understand that this process can t…

I just had an idea, maybe a dumb one, but an idea none the less, and I thought that I would run it by some of you. I was thinking about full motion sims and what it would require to make something like that on a smaller, cheaper scale and I had a thought, air. I wonder if it would be possible to have something like a seat cushion that has an air compressor attached that would be able to regulate pressure in various compartments in that cushion. If this could be done you could sort of simulate turns, climbs and descents, maybe even a degree of turbulence. I know that this would not be a great tool to simulate motion but it would give an added dimension that we do not curre…

Dear people, Could someone please give me a rough idea of how much it costs to rent a typical single engined trainer, such as the C 172.I do realize that this will vary greatly from one region to another, so I would also appreciate if you could tell me your geographical location as well.I am especially interested in prices from Europe and the USA.Thank you in advance.

Why hasn't Boeing ever made a 747 version with an upper deck that goes the length of the fuselage - similar to the configuration on the airbus 380? Based on the pre orders for the 380, it looks like there is a market for something like this.

Hey Tom... just wanted to say thanks for creating this website. I also wanted to ask you what made you do it? What were some of your ideas and predictions for this site when you first started out? Thanks as well to all the other staff members that keep this place running and moderated. But mostly, I just wanted to give kudos to the guy that started it all... in the words of teens these days... You da man!

If you have access to the (most recent) June edition of Plane&Pilot magazine - on page 52 is extensive article about a very unique Piper Cherokee airplane owned by professional pilot Jim Rhoads of Indiana. So it happens that Jim works for Flight1 and is one of the key designers there. If you own Flight1's Meridian you know what I am taking about ...Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg

I'm currently into my IR flight training, and really enjoying it.If on an airway, and told to hold at an intersection located on that airway, is it common to hold on one of the cross radials that defines the intersection (usually just one other cross radial).? This wouild instead of holding on the airway. Thanks,Bruce (just anticipating this weekend's torture lesson :) ).

If you want to spend 18 hours bonding with your flight simulator(and your chair)...Singapore Airlines will break its own record for the world's longest distance commercial flight with non-stop service from Singapore to Newark beginning June 28. The new flight tops the carrier's existing record by 1,000 miles, which was set Feb. 3 when it began non-stop services between Singapore and Los Angeles. Singapore will operate the 9,000 nautical-mile route with A340-500 aircraft. The flight will take about 18 hours in each direction.

Check out this picture: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/570962/M/Obviously this "pilot" can't ruin his pride (or atleast whats left of it) to do a go around but is more satisfied with risking his life, the instructors life, and potentially other peoples lives...It's not that hard to apply a but more thottle... I hope that student gets a long lesson on landings...Thoughts?Jason :-wave

For others here who use scanners and such to listen to the aircraft band(118-136)trying to emulate real-time airline schedules. I often wonder, with many having high-speed access now, if it might not be possible to create an online network of scanner users(connected to their PC's)with a central website that would allow one to listen to actual ATC freq's. enroute? While it would be virtually impossible to get complete departure to arrival coverage(depending on flight distance)I think with enough participants it might lend to an interesting set-up for those always striving for "as real as it gets".Not being very computer savvy myself, i'm not sure what type of hardwaresoftw…

Was surprised to see no mention of this here today...http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/space/05/13/p...ship/index.htmlThis has been an extremely exciting "race to space" to watch over the past few years. I really suspect that private enterprise can and will bring us all closer to space in years to come, and it looks like Rutan and his team are among many leading the way..
