Plane makes emergency landing on highwayTuesday, April 27, 2004 Posted: 11:44 AM EDT (1544 GMT) Investigators surround a plane after it made an emergency landing near Tunica, Mississippi Tuesday. TUNICA, Mississippi (AP) -- A single-engine plane carrying FedEx cargo made an emergency landing on a highway early Tuesday, and a passing truck knocked off a wing but no one was hurt, officials said. The single-engine turboprop Cessna was on a flight from Memphis, Tennessee, to Monroe, Louisiana, said Sandra Munoz, a spokeswoman for FedEx in Memphis, Tennessee. It landed on a four-lane stretch of U.S. 61, where the truck hit it. Munoz said the two-person crew was unharmed, an…

Hi, I am new to the forum.I am a student at the moment but i love flying my simulator and i am looking to become a commercial or cargo pilot. The big problem getting in the way of me becoming or trianing to become a pilot is the health reqirements. So i would be really pleased if a real pilot or someone that knows a lot on this matter could explain to me how good my health has to be, because when i was younger i had a mild form of Asthma(until i was about 3-4) and i had a ear condition called glue ear, however both conditions have cleared up now.I would be really gratefull if someone could give me a clue to wether this would stop me flying or not.THANKSJason.I

Was training a new Navajo Pilot today at one of the local airfields and we were going to be doing a rejected takeoff on the roll. We were monitoring tower when we heard tower call an aircraft to overshoot because he didn't put his gear down!! We looked over and sure enough there was a C177 20 feet above the threshold without the gear down!! He overshot and came back around for a wheels down landing... If that were me I'd be buying the guys in the tower complete dinners and more!!

I was poking around reading some old usenet posts when I happened on this great story:http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=3c956...tnews.attbi.comI don't know what the policy is on avsim about cutting/pasting from other sources, so I'll just link to it. I thought it was a really neat story.

"Heroes of the Pacific"I came across this while perusing IGN...the graphics look absolutely gorgeous. It almost looks like a tech demo. Anyway, the screens are down toward the bottom of the page, just click on "Media Page"http://pc.ign.com/articles/507/507436p1.html

Your two cents needed!I'm currently in the process of developing a commercial flight panel/radio stack for use with flight simulators such as MSFS, X-Plane, etc. Since so many flight sim fans hang out here I thought it would a good place to get people's thoughts, opinions, suggestions, etc.So come on folks! This is your chance to put in your two cents and shape the development of one of those absurdly expensive mail order gizmos. What do you like about what's available, what stinks, what would you like to see? Do driver issues drive you nuts? Is charging $800 for a radio stack criminal? How important is realistic appearance?Feel free to use specific examples to make point…

Hi, I am really interested in flying(as im sure you know), and want to become a commercial pilot. I have had 2 training flights now, but each time i have tried to be persuaded to join the air cadets.I have thought about this for hours and with al the flying etc it seems a good idea, however there are things that the air cadets do that i do not want to do e.g. camping, shooting etc.So as i am at an important year of my life a connot aford to go camping all the time etc.So my question is:How important is joining the air cadets in my career moves to become a pilot?THANKSJason.I

I shot this video on October 22nd, 2003. I will be adding a couple more videos of the other flights later on. This flight is a United 737, San Jose, California to Denver, Colorado. I was not allowed to film the next flight, which was Denver to Indianapolis, Indiana, but I was able to film the two flights home. The next video will be the crown jewel of the three... Skimming along a solid cloud deck at sunset. Please let me know if you'd like a higher quality video, which I will be making. The high quality video will probably be about 75MB. Also, if you are on dialup and would like a smaller size video, please let me know as well and I'll be happy to put one up. I am hostin…

Ever wonder if FS could prepare you to jump in a jet and take off? Well, I don't know about a real jet but the FAA considers a Class D simulator to be just as good as far as certification is concerned. For my 40th B-day :-eek my father-in-law, the Chief Pilot for a major corporate flight dept, got me some free time in a Gulfstream Simulator (3 hours to be exact!).Now to be fair, I have a PPL, have a home cockpit using Project Magenta software and learned a lot about Boeings using PS1.3 over the years. I familiarized myself with the GIV cockpit prior to the session using a poster from Simuflite so I more or less knew where the switches should be. The overhead panel is setu…

I wanted to post this here so you can let me know which sky looks more realistic in Orbiter, since you guys are into Flight Sims.Tweeking the sky settings, I came up with a pretty good view. Here are two pictures of a plane flying at it's cruising altitude of 10 Kilometers (Yes, Orbiter now has aircraft with it's new flight models! It's no longer "just" a Space Simulator!)Both pictures were taken at the same time, so the time of day (around mid day), angle of picture, etc, are identical. The file Sky-Default (Attachment #1) is the default sky setting in Orbiter. Looks kinda dark and no blue whatsoever. The file Sky-New (Attachment #2) is my new settings. Thanks!

Yesterday while installing some new scenery (the installation of which is totally irrelevant to this post), I right clicked my mouse to create a new file. Imagine my dismay to find out there was no longer any option for "new file" listed in the menu that appeared!!! :-eek I make new files all the time, so I really need to get this ability back, but haven't a clue as to why it no longer works. The only major change I've made recently is I updated my nVidia video card drivers to version 56.63 (or 56.64). And I can't believe that change would have had such an effect on Windows. For what it's worth, I'm running Win98SE. Any comments, suggestions, advice?? Thanks in advan…
