http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Central/06/20/w...t.ap/index.htmlI'm really wondering how this happens in a plane like the A319 where the correct runway is displayed in perfect position on the ND screen. These two pilots have probably lost their careers...

...or can we correctly state I with a great deal of technical control, managed to bring the airplane to the ground with little or no damage to the craft three complete landings ( yeah right, controlled crashes!)I took my pre-solo exam, then went up with my instructor did three rounds thru the pattern with landings and then he got out! You know what... you don't realize how much of a security blanket your instructor is until he is not sitting with you in that cockpit. Honestly, I was scared crazy! My hand was trembling and I was sweating like a pig, and not because the temperature was 100 degrees either. However I managed to complete the solo on my first try and within…

Hi, I am taking a trip this summer, and I was needing to know something, I have seen videos that people shot while the plane was landing, taxing, and I was planning on doing the same, but I already know that they said you cannot operate electronic devices? Is there a difference or is just precautionary ? Thanks, Matt

KBLM is out of JET-A and 100LL following the owner's decision to block tanker access to the fuel farm. Brown is upset because the FBO, Columbia Air Services, is making money from fuel sales and he wants the money. Columbia has a contract so Brown cannot legally kick them out, so instead, he has closed down most of the runway (7000 feet became 3000) to drive off jet traffic, closed the airport at night, and made threatening remarks to FBO personnel and pilots. His plan is to run the FBO out of business, and he has declared if he must destroy the airport to do it, he will. His deadline for the death of the airport (or the surrender of the FBO) is July 28th.Daley proved it w…

Hi all, I have a question about the main landing gear on Boeing's 737 aircraft. Why did Boeing design the plane without landing gear doors on the main wheels? This kinda dawned on my yesturday look at photos of 737.Thanks,Bill

Two guy's dressed as taxicab drivers went to Heathrow to have a little fun. They asked information to read the names on the pieces of paper they had with them...they pretended that they where waiting for them and they didn't show up. Here's the link for the sound files, just click on the little radio on the right:http://www.dr.dk/p3/monkey/spam_bam_fly.aspI've throw in another link where you can here prank calls taken from radio shows. Some of these are priceless...I especially like the one about the plumber looking for a job. I know it's in Danish but it's pretty straight forward, just click the small radio icon on the right and you can go to the next page by clicking on…

To all my fellow friends here! Just wanted you to know that in the mail today (01JUL04) was the notice from the FAA medical department that I have recieved my issuance. It reads in "lawyer speak" but it appears that it is a 6 year issuance but I have to give all my medical test, and a doctors note every year. Again I am not sure what it really says except that I am medicaly certified with my 3rd class medical! ... and may I say not a moment too soon either! ;) I have 18 hours of flight time and I am at the lessone for the solo coming this weekend. Talk about timing. I have lessons on Sunday and Monday and both of them are for solos so if my instructor deems me rea…

It seems that MSFS 2004 has the largest community support when compared to other Flight Simulations. From what I have read on these forums that there are better Flight Sims than MSFS 2004. Why does MSFS 2004 have the largest community following(if that's the case)? And if it doesn't, then what simulation does? Finally, what is the best PC Flight Simulation on the market? Thanks in advance,Jake

Hi,Just changing the subject alittle here, I've been wondering after watching a Bee fly through some heavy rain, how they actually manage to not get hit by the falling rain. You can imagine it in a film, where your a Bee, and you've just been hit by a drop of rain "MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY, going down...."I can only think this is possible by time itself going much slower for bugs, enabling them to dodge what could be a possible collision - excluding the fly squat :-lol.What do you think?http://www.onlinesimulationsolutions.com/sigs/wdosssig.jpg

I have a dual boot with Win ME on c:). Yea, I know, ME stinks but I have a couple of ancient apps that I need it for.I'm in the middle of restoring from a full format and disabled the silly System Restore but it keeps putting that confounded 500 MB _restore folder on each of my drives. It seems I saw a fix to this a really long time ago here but a search doesn't produce anything.Would someone mind posting how I can eliminate those things once and for all...BobL

Today, here in Reno, NV, we had a campaign visit by the president of the US. My interest was in how they handled the air traffic during the short stay. Revno is a class C airport under normal circumstances. So, I crank up my scanner radio. Since I use the sim to fly into and out of KRNO as a base (or the nearby Stead which is not tower controlled), I am very familiar with the approaches and nav aids in the area. Sooo, I hear Oakland control descend AF 1 to 16,000, then to 10,000, the to 8800 until established on the localizer for KRNO 16R, the only ILS approach (even though it is a bright sunny day with unlimited visibility). Just about all of the commercial airlines were…

Hi,This morning (2am) i was(still) doing some work on my computer when i heard a helicopter fly over my house at what appeared to be very low and very fast. I went out onto the balcony with a cup of hot chocolate to take a look at what was going on. I could hear the chopper circling around a few blocks away but couldn't see it (there were no clouds around) until it turned on it's spotlight. I could hear a car being thrashed where the spotlight was and some police sirens down the main road (some one was being very naughty). Anywayz.... the chopper circled around for a few minutes while following the car and then disappeared. I decided to stay out in the balcony to finish o…

To be exact: anyone flies normally aspirated piston aircraft, say with 260-310 HP engine and typical ceiling 17,000 - 20,000 ? Mooney Ovation is a good example of such an aircraft. I would have two questions (maybe your POH has this info):(disregarding oxygen issues)1. at what altitude you get highest TAS ?2. what is the best altitude to max specifc range (range per lb of fuel).Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg
