Ok, I've been here at Oskhosh a couple of days now and I'm still trying to locate a seller of scanners. I figured Uniden would have been here and also that scanners would be much cheaper here than back home in Finland. However I haven't found Uniden in the exhibitors list at www.airventure.org or in any Hangar. So I wonder if any of you guys are at the show and perhaps have seen any Uniden products. It doesn't really have to be an Uniden scanner but I figured they are good value. Mind you, I am no pilot - just a sim pilot who likes to listen to atc talk in order to improve my VATSIM-skills!Grateful for any ideas,

Just to say, I love the new boeing colors! I noticed that this is the fifth color scheme that Boeing has used, replacing the 1981 scheme (http://newairplane.com/en-US/News/NewColors.htm). I'm curious... does anyone know of any existing artwork showing off all five color schemes? Perhaps, a collage of five aircraft showing the schemes through the decades? That would be awesome.Ken

27th of july, 2004. Time refrenced is EST.There was an episode of "Vanisings" at the time noted that was about a crash 42 years ago in the Sahara desert. The Horus looked like a "Connie". I am just courious. I dont watch much TV, (this is the second aircraft question fron a TV show in as many weeks, but hey having problems with on-line flying and I figured a may learn somthing.Thee reason for the crash was a pilot sat in for a navigator and for what ever reason set the compas wrong(I am just repeating what was in the documentary), but after many hours in the air going the wrong way and low on fuel the head Pilot was forced to crash land the four prop liner in the sand…

Driving past KDEN the other day and noted what I first thought was a B76 (because of the larger fuselage, and had followed a number of 73's so I had a comparison). It didn't take long to realize that it wasn't big enough for a 76, then I recognized it as a Ted aircraft (A320's).I assume that the A320 fuselage is bigger, but with 3+3 seating (same as the 73), how much bigger can it be? Does a fatter fuselage have any efficiency penalty from drag? Thanks,Bruce.

I've just completed my first stage check for my instrument rating, and have now started approaches. This is really information overload stuff :) . My first was at KFNL (Fort Collins Loveland, CO) last Saturday, and was in actual IMC. We broke out at 400' above minimums for the ILS 33, same on our return to Jeffco (KBJC), ILS to 29R. My CFII did all the talking to ATC and radio stack management (thanks goodness).Today (2 days later), as a part of my lesson, both my CFII and me took my grandson back to KCOS (Colorado Springs). I flew under the hood, but this time I had to manage all the comms, GPS, nav radios; all by myself. To add to it, KCOS was IMC on our approach…

I've pitched it to my bosses and they all think it's a great idea so I'm hoping now that I've built it, you'll come :D August 21nd at Auburn, IN airport (07c) starting a 800. There are no fees for the meet. It is also the weekend of our airport fly in and open house so if we stay up all Saturday night, there will a pancake breakfast waiting for us :D The EAA's B-17 will be here for tours and rides and yours truly will be offering introductory flying lessons for $50. I'm working on possibly giving away a intro lesson for the winner of a dogfighting competition (sim yet to be determined). I'll see what I can do about other prizes. I plan on inviting any flight sim g…

Hey gang,I've been wondering lately about seaplane operations. The whole concept of a plane that lands on water seems rather exciting at the start. This may sound somewhat humorous, but what are the rules regarding where you can land (is it still landing if you're not on land? :-roll )? For instance, I would be reasonably certain that I couldn't just fire up the ol' Cessna and decide to land on Lake Lanier one day without causing quite a stir (Lake Lanier is a big lake outside of Atlanta, for those who might not know). Then again, I have seen a seaplane on the lake where my uncle used to live (Briggs Lake, in Minnesota). I would think there would be some fairly stringent r…

On Tuesday, the USAF were planning on showing off a B-52 bomber at the Farnborough Air Show in England. The plane was to fly non-stop round trip from its US base and do a couple of low-level passes over the crowds at Farnborough before returning to the US.Unfortunately, the crew mistook Blackbushe - about 5 miles away - for Farnborough, and did their display over the virtually deserted GA field before returning to the US. Bad enough to make a mistake like this at any time, but to leave the leaders of virtually the worlds entire aviation industry standing around the tents and booths showcasing their products while you zoom back and forth in front of a used car auction and …

http://www.mozilla.org/Microsoft has shut off so many features in IE (do to attacks) that everytime I accessed the Avsim forums I had to re-enter my password. There are many other issues that are going on with IE that made me just decide to try this one. I just thought I'd share this with the community because I'm very happy with this alternative to IE and the many viruses and trogens that try to get through.

My mother in-law is in Boeing's professional union (who voted for their new contract the week after July 4th) and is convinced the widely reported potential sale of Boeing's commerical division is to BAE, part owner of Airbus.I spent the whole weekend arguing there is NO way that they'd sell out to Airbus at this point...but she told me everyone in the company thought it was a done deal.....Do you think that could really happen??????

This a real bad one, LOL. But in the TV Show "Wings", I used th think the plane was a Beech Baron 58, However, I was told it was a Cessna. If so what twin Cessna is it and also, is it equal to the Baron 58 in terms of speed and runway lenght needed. I can guess which Cessna twin the aircraft is or I can "fess up" amd just say I am not sure. Also, please, is the plane we are discussing free-ware, pay-ware, or what. Thanks for any info.Mark.

Hey guys, I found a few of my files on a few other websites other than avsim. The problem is, the only websites I uploaded the files to were avsim.. so I guess the .zip files grew legs and walked over to other servers. I wouldn't be surprised if all of the FS2004 files from Avsim would be on this site.. I found my files on these servers:http://www.fsdome.comhttp://www.fsfreeware.comand I'll probably find more as time goes on.

FS2002 gives coordinate info in deg, min, sec format. I found a calculator program on the internet that converts into decimal format (I need decimal format so that can do calculations more easily). How do these values (in decimal format) translate into meters or feet? Here is an example of two points (in decimal format) that I need to know the distance between: Point 1: Long -87.831505, Lat 42.984665Point 2: Long -87.83128045, Lat 42.98464722Now, the difference between the two longitude points is 0.00022455. How do I figure out how this translates into feet (or fraction thereof)? The distances I'm trying to calculate are quite small so I don't need to account for the curvi…
