Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. Good day everyone!! I am currently studying computer information systems in college (undergrad) and the current class I am taking CIS 3400: Database Design and Implementation, has presented me with an interesting problem. The course is geared towards a final project that involves taking a real-world application of a database system and recreate that system using the methods learned in class, and other informaiton gained from speaking to those who work in that field. It's the "other" information that has my group sort confused. We agreed that our database would be a replica of the one used by airline ticketing agents. We just don't know what (if any) constraints are i…

Hi All, Hope this isn't too OT, I didn't know where else to go for this question. I will be traveling through Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) in Barbados in June of this year. I have a long layover (4 hours), after a long flight (4:45 hrs) from EWR. I've been to the airport web site and there is a lot of constuction going on, and one passanger review from November 2003 said there was nothing available in terms of food and drink (due to constuction). Has anyone been there recently? The wife can get testy without food and libation :(, and stocking up on munchies in Newark is not desirable, wife also does not like Continentals food. If BGI is essentially closed …

If all these airlines are in such financial trouble, and laying off crews etc, how are they affording these new paint jobs?? Northwest new paintUnited new paintZip has changed there gawd awful 1980 Braniff wannabe colors to more of a white base...I just don't get it, one minute these airlines are practically broke begging for help, and the next minute the whole fleet is a new color!! These paint jobs can't be cheap!!

When I am approaching an airport and disengage the GPS and click on the APR, the aircraft will make the appropriate turn to line up with the runway. SOMETIMES, when I intercept the glideslope the autopilot will disengage the ALT HOLD and start the aircraft descending at the appropriate rate of FPM right to the end of the runway. However, sometimes the program will not intercept the glideslope and the aircraft will stay at the same altitude unless I manually reduce the altitude. Any ideas on why this works sometimes and not others? Any help is appreciated.Jim Engh

I was looking at the airbus site the other day and was suprised to see that the forward sections center section and nose section, have been completed. They showed pics of the actual completed sections but what really got me was looking at the nose section with the cockpit windows. And i just said to myself, wow, this thing is REAL. its actually there it exists. Airbus says that its first flight is scheduled for fourth quarter 2004. It seems that airbus once known as the little company that could is bringing itself up highly. They've earned my respect today. Like boeing with its 747 in the past, airbus is taking a big risk. Ofcourse the same thing that was said about the 7…

Lucky I have some good FAA A&P and Avionics experience,Because I just got the thing back together after about 45 minutes of reassembly! It has 4 plastic rollers on the top and bottom of each pedal carrier that ride in plastic channels molded into the top and bottom covers, not to forget the many wires that need to be routed correctly, or else! The channels and rollers were full of crap after 2 years of use, and needed to be cleaned, they looked and operated just like the wheels on my 700 pound tool box at the hanger after rolling over rivets, safety wire, screws etc, you get the picture :-) So as a warning, if your pedals need cleaning, you better be mechanically inc…

The subject a/c (designed for FS2002)functions very well in FS2004 with one exception. In the external view only the engine housings are visible. The engine components, compressor blades etc. are missing. Would anyone know of a fix for this?

Gentlemen,I wish I had read a thread like this one I am going to post before buying the product mentioned above. Let me first state that I am going to do this in a very civilized manner and ask anyone that replies here (if any) to do so in the same way. I have also read this other post called "Complaint Forum" located here http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=11605&page= and accept the remarks posted by Mr. Allensworth. I am 36 years old and am in no mood to simply go bashing people on public forums, I am just a business administrator that understands dificulties companies eventualty go through but on the other hand I would also like to see my BASIC consum…

Hi guys. Just wanted to sneak by and show ya an update that we're working on for the Project Mercury Orbiter addon by Rob Conley. Besides an updated look for the Redstone and Atlas boosters, and a really good Mercury Capsule model made by Brian (liljohn), it's going to sport a new dashboard. :)[/img]http://www.moonport.org/panel10.jpg[/img] You guys will love this new version. I guarentee it. :)

Yesterday we were so lucky here in the Innsbruck (LOWI) area to experience a rather seldom weather phenomena. In the middle of the Alps, approx 1500 - 2000 km north of the African Sahara desert, the sky was painted in shades of gold, yellow, orange and red by sand, which was blown here from Northern Africa by heavy winds. Following 3 pics, whhich don't do justice to what it really looked - it was simply breath taking and beautiful. Also I appologize for the unsharpness, espeecially of the 3rd pic. What you see is not an aurora or a sunset glow. These pics were taken around noon from our terrace facing to north-north-east.I know this is not directly about aviation, but abo…

Is there a forum out there where a user can voice his or her opinion about some of the developers, whether it be negative or positve, without the constant censorship of locked threads?I really think users need to be made aware of some of the problems with devolopers, before they make a purchase through these sites. Thanks

Am I just too old fashoned, or are the new paint schemes just getting less and less interesting?Saw the new UAL scheme...the "Ted" tail is an interesting stylization of the logo, but it loses me after that, the fuselage looks like a big and boring bizjet and the bold UNITED just doesn't seem to "fit".Like Delta, pretty tail then just blah...Asiana uses interesting buff over white, the old ANA with the sweeping two tone blue, the new NWA is a white ghostish horror, can't even see all their classic logo (is it an N with an arrow pointing NW, a W, enigmatic). The BA Landor scheme, elegantly simple and stylish.I miss cheatlines and sweeping curves of color (ala Aviaca) that i…

Hi guys. I am interested in Orbiter, but I haven't downloaded it yet. What I would like to know is if expendable launch vehicles are simulated in Orbiter. If so, how many different types are available ? I love the thought of watching realistic launches of multi-stage rockets, complete with accurate stage separations and so forth.Chris Low.
