This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Because of constant abuse by a small group of people (including swearing and insults to regular visitors) I have been forced to temporarilly disable access to the Avsim IRC channel from the web interface.Access will be restored in a week or so. In the meantime people who wish to join the channel can do so using a standalone IRC client following the procedures outlined on the avsim chat page. This makes it easier to identify abusive users and take action against them if they're stupid enough to continue their behaviour.Thank you for your understanding.

I have always been facinated with the A340 because of its resemblance to the 707 & DC-8, especially the 200 and 300 versions of the A340. However, I have never really been impressed with the look Airbus cockpit because of its lack of dials and switches - especially being that I am a big fan of the RFP 747-200But, I have to admit that the following picture brings out the best in what Airbus has to offer -- Awesome! -- and has motivated me to reconsider the A340 to my list of potential FS2004 long haulers. However, such a program for FS2004 would have to closely render the posted pic in detail (lots of apparent switches, lights, and that sort of thing). http://www.ai…

I notice that on the front page of Avsim there is a comment referring to the Trident as being the answer to the Boeing 727.Is this true or accurate? All of the information I've been able to find so far has indicated the HS121 (Trident) came first. The HS121 website http://www.hs121.org/ indicates this as does Dave Maltby's site http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk/hs121_trident_history.htmBoeing say that the 727 rolled out on November 27 1962 (http://www.boeing.com/history/boeing/727.html) whilst Dave Maltby's site states that the Trident first flew on January 1962.Can anyone confirm or refute what I've researched and come up with?

A MISTAKE by an air traffic controller was among a number of communication lapses that plunged a commercial flight from Melbourne to Adelaide into a rapid descent last year, a report into the incident has found. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said the Boeing 737 was approaching Adelaide on March 9 using an instrument landing system (ILS) when it went into a rapid descent, falling at about 2,000 metres per minute. The pilot managed to regain control of the aircraft, pull out of the descent and land without incident. The ATSB said the air crew had been directed by an air traffic controller to use ILS even though there had been previous notifications that the sy…

I was on the fence whether to post this in the aircraft design forum, since the specs that appear in the site in the link appear very useful for ballparking fuel burn, etc... But I thought I'd post it here...fascinating site, especially when you start comparing aircraft side by side.-Johnhttp://www.planequest.com

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Sorry if this has been posted before, but I just watched a movie trailer after upgrading to Windows Media Player 9. The A380 is not SPECIFICALLY mentioned in the trailer, but when her daughter asked "Mommy, did you make that plane?" Jody replies "Yes, its brand new. Two levels, seven galleys, crew compartment... It's the biggest." The quick exterior shot of takeoff LOOKS like the A380. It has aparently already entered service in the movie. The gist of the movie is her daughter disapears in midair, nobody but Jody remembers EVER seeing her on the plane, and Jody goes ballistic trying to solve the mystery. Couldn't figure out how to get the l…

This could be a controversial thread, so before anyone jumps to conclusions that are not warranted in the content of my message, let me state the following for the record and so that there is no doubt by anyone:AVSIM will always adhere to the wishes of freeware / shareware contributors to our hobby. That is, if they wish to remove files previously uploaded to AVSIM, we will do so without question. We may encourage the author to give it a second thought or exercise a 24 hour cooling off period, but if the author insists, we will remove his/her files for whatever their reason may be.Now, having said that, and given that there is no doubt as to our compliance with the wishes…

This received from Dan at 5:59 P.M. on Friday, April 29th:"Dear All, I have been informed that Mr David Eckert has somehow attempted to legitimise his "boycott" of AVSIM by stating that my departure from both AVSIM, and the hobby in general, was for "similar reasons to his". This is not the case, I have nothing directly against either AVSIM or its staff, I have, and will always maintain that AVSIM is the best FS site around, BAR NONE, regardless of some of the arrogant and argumentative participants of the forum. It is pure coincidence that my departure and Mr Eckerts "boycott" have come at this time, but my reasons for leaving were due to the general bad attitude of the…

FIRE crews are monitoring a Qantas Boeing 767 airliner to ensure its overheated brakes don't cause a fire. The incident at Melbourne Airport has caused delays to flights to and from Melbourne this morning when the airliner blocked a taxiway.Air Services Australia spokesman Ben Mitchell said the brakes of Qantas flight 34 from Auckland had overheated in a landing about 8.30am (AEST)."It can't be moved until the brakes cool down and that might affect arrivals at Melbourne," Mr Mitchell said.Crews from four airport fire trucks monitored the plane to ensure the brakes did not lead to a fire, he said. Melbourne Airport spokeswoman Brooke Lord said the plane was moved soon after…

I've seen a few pictures of the A380 flight deck, and while it has a lot of commonality with the rest of the Airbus family, it looks and feels different in my opinion. I miss the clean lines of the glare-shield, it now looks familiar to the A300/A310 :-(What are your thoughts?

It's in the news here (Toronto, Ont.) today that Air Canada has placed firm orders w/ Boeing for (18) 777-300ER's & (14) 787's. --Yes I did say 787's!--They will also be selling-off or retiring some of their older 767's.
