Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Check out this video! Those of you who fly small planes will know all about the time-honored "floating-pencil trick"! These lot used a dog and it looks thoroughly confused! :)http://www.compfused.com/directlink/728/

I think this is a first for the AVSIM forums (I am sure someone will correct me otherwise)... I am posting this message aboard Lufthansa flight 416 bound for Washington D.C., which went wheels up at 11:15 a.m. local time (45 minutes ago) which departed on 07L. As you probably know, Lufthansa was the first carrier to trial and then deploy the Boeing Connexion which provides the service to the Internet. Now, if all carriers provided this service, I would be extremely happy!

Here is the link to a french TV station, click on region and select Toulouse and you can see a short report on the A380 first taxi tests. Sorry the comments are in French, but you can still hear the engines, which is quite nice!!http://www.m6.fr/html/info/player/frame_soir.htmFrancois

  7. Hello,I am looking for websites refering to flightsimulators (especially the ones that were only meant to be games when they were published) being used as training devices for real aviation.I know that for example X-Plane is being used in some cases.I have to prepare a presentation for wednesday concerning this topic and I am still looking for resources (I never find all of them myself :) so if anyone of you knows where to find something about this topic please leave a message here or mail me: [email protected])Thanks to everyone in advance,Robert Lechner

Just thought of a good question, what makes an airline choose a RJ oriented company over a "major" company when it comes to short haul routes. Specifically a European airline, just to put into perspective the kind of routes being flown. If you are gettting high load factors (i.e. mid 80's or higher), what is keeping you from getting for example a A330 instead of a ERJ or CRJ for short/medium routes (i.e. London - Frankfurt). Some of the obvious reasons :1) Operating Costs2) Fuel Costs3) Cost of unused parts4) Pilot Training5) MX Training6) MAYBE FA TrainingAlso, some other reasons such as :1) Lost revenue from unsold seats (if you miss the upper 90's on more than one flig…

Hi,My name is Marcelo and, although not very active posting on the AVSIM foruns, I read them daily.I live in the DFW area and I was wondering how many of us flight simmers live here. I thought we could meet at a Starbucks or something to meet each other and exchange ideas, talk. What do you guys think?I know most of us have wives/husbands that'll probably say: "What?! You spend hours playing this thing and now you're going out with your nut friends???"... :-)Marcelo

Yes I know that we should copy any payware downloads to a cd just in case anything happens to our hard drives and I always do, but I was just wondering (whilst eating my lunchtime sandwiches!) why some companies allow unlimited downloads of any purchased products whilst others don't. Seeing as we purchase a licence to use the product rather than the product itself (Isn't that one of the reasons why we aren't supposed to sell on downloaded software to other users?)I don't understand why they make this restriction? If it's to prevent multiple downloads, what's to stop someone making numerous copies from a cd? Victor

I wonder...in a dual boot environment...if this might not be PERFECT for gaming? I would love a WinXP version with ZERO overhead. http://yahoo.reuters.com/financeQuoteCompa...13111598_newsmlEric

Do you read FLYING?One of the editors writes about his good friend, a very experienced 777 pilot who bought himself a Lake Amphibian sea plane and crashed it on the very first day of trials. He was landing and apparently misjudged distance from water (apparently common error), flared too late and basically the hull is a total loss and the pilot will spend months recovering from his wounds. He did not purchase insurance. But anyway - here is my point - if landing on water I would rather have a technique that would assume some steady approach attitude and just wait for water. I think it is called "glassy water landing" where you don't have to do any flaring. Barry Schiff wa…

  23. I picked up the most recent copy of Flying at my newsstand...Please, someone tell me: didn't it used to be a lot better? Back when I first read it, it seemed pretty thrilling.I mean, there are some good and reasonably interesting articles. But they are few and far between in this issue, and I'm not embarrased to say that the ads with all the Garmin 1000s were more exiting than most of the rest of the content.Stories about a bunch of airline pilots flying around, getting tipsy each night, and talking about aviation at good dinners... well, that may bring back the warm fuzzies for some old-timers I guess. But I'm not an old-timer yet. That article felt rather pompous and ex…

Hi Folks. Can anyone please tell me what the maximum allowable value is for goods imported to the United States, before one would be required to pay taxes or duties? Is there such a value, below which taxes or duties are not applicable?I would like to get a model aircraft kit from a Canadian designer, and have to ship it to the US first, before I can bring it where I live. (Outside US).Thanks in advance
