I came across a pretty good recording that I made while flying the "alleycat" ABCCC command post mission over Laos and North Vietnam. It's a B-57 (yellow-bird) being directed by an O-2 (2-engine pusher-puller Cessna skymaster) FAC Foward-Air-Controller, callsign: NAIL . Go to: http://www.rogue-gryffons.com/gallery/album04 Whenever an altitude is mentioned, it is referred to as " Base +/- 1,2,3,etc,) Base altitude being a classified altitude that is changed each day so the enemy anti-aircraft wont be able to know altitudes of planes they are monitoring. It's a nighttime mission, bombing trucks on the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos and North Vietnam. This is a pretty good exampl…

a message from Bill that means something. I tried 3 times in a row and the pop up message asked me if I had my caps on. Which I did!. Omg, 20 years, and probably 2 or 3 times a day, that adds up, but finally, thousands upon thousands of clicks later, there was a click for me. I am so happy that bill and his friends thought of me like that...rdgds,billg

On my search for info about the Lockheed T2V-1 Seastar i stumbled over this intriguing story :http://www.itsnewjersey.com/lostinjersey/vehicle/jet.htmlWhat do *you* think these sad remains belong to ??Personally i can't believe that the last email poster deffinately believes it's a T-33 rather then a T2V-1 ( the F-101,F-80 and F-89 suggestions don't hold any water of course ) because the windshield frame and air intakes already give away that it's a T2V-1 and not a T-33. The latter used the more typical windshield framing where the T2V-1 had the mid frames removed to improve forward visibillity. Not to speak of the typical T-33/F-80 air intakes of which there's no prove at…

Not quite related, but the new Sony PlayStation Portable comes out on Thursday. It's $250.00 and supposedly quite revolutionary. I do like the looks of the game, GranTurismo; and hopefully, some flight simulation type games will also be available soon for this piece of hand-held hardware. This small machine can play movies and do other neat things. Have any of you been following this or do any of you have interest in this PSP concept? The reviews on this in Japan have been quite extraordinary, and from what I hear, this new Sony is going to be a real hit. I sure hope it has some impact on our wonderful hobby of Flight Simulation.

A photographer from a well-known national magazine was assigned to cover the recent Southern California fires. The magazine wanted to show some of the heroic work of the firefighters as they battled the blazes. When the photographer arrived, he realized that the smoke was so thick that it would seriously impede or make it impossible for him to photograph anything from ground-level.So he requested permission to rent a plane and take photos from the air. His request was approved, and arrangements were made. He was told to report to a nearby airport, where a single-engine plane would be waiting for him.He arrived at the airport and saw a plane warming up near the gate. He jum…

Favorite FS site other than Avsim? The last few days I've been seeing more sites for FS addons and whatnot, that have some really cool stuff, that might be missed if you only stick to Avsim and the library here.So list out three of your favorites, tell us what the site focuses on(why you like it), and don't repeat the same sites!http://hovercontrol.com/It

If the Dutch were ever gonna get something revolutionary off the ground -other than Fokkers- it obviously has to be a 'something-cycle'. For more details check this article at TheRegister: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/03/16/du...lying_tricycle/Enjoy! Rgds Jaap

Hello everyone. The last time I visited JFK airport was in April 2000. I flew to LAX with United but I don't remember going through any security checkpoint. As I intend to mention this in a school project, I hope someone can confirm that my memory is not playing tricks with me. Was there security screening for domestic flights at JFK in 2000?Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Sorry, I don't know the original sources for this aviation humour, or the original person who collected these anecdotes. The messaage was posted to me by a person who knows of my passion for aviation. A couple of them, I've heard before, but, they're oldie goldies.Hope they give you a couple of chuckles. Enjoy! The following are accounts of actual exchanges between airline pilotsand control towers around the world. Remember that the conversationsare heard by all pilots on that frequency in that area.==================================================Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!"Delta 351: "Give us another hint! We have digital watches!"=====…

Hey All,Up here in Alberta there is a flap going on about the governments private (public) plane fleet. A lot of talk about wasted money, inappropriate personal use and all that kind of stuff. Anyway the Premier of Alberta (equivalent to Governor of Alberta) has at his disposal 2 King Air 200s 1 King Air 350 and 1 Dash 8. What do other State level Governments have that they own? Anybody know for their state? As for the Feds I assume that the President of the US only has Air Force 1 and a Helo. Does he have or fly on more? How about you International guys - what do your leaders have?Just Curious.Take Care! -Ed-

There's always one. This has got to be one of the funniest things in a longtime. I think this guy should have been promoted, not fired. This is a truestory from the Word Perfect Helpline, which was transcribed from arecording monitoring the customer care department. Needless to say, theHelp Desk employee was fired; however, he/she is currently suing the WordPerfect organization for "Termination without Cause".Actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect Customer Support employee. (Now Iknow why they record these conversations!):Operator: "Ridge Hall, computer assistance; may I help you?"Caller: "Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect."Operator: "What sort of trouble??"…

I was accepted to train as a pilot by British Airways when I was18 years old, but finally decided to go to University instead. I never regretted the decision - until, of course, I started flying on MS Flight Simulator. The folly of youth! The decision to 'ditch' BA bugs the #### out of me now of course, especially when I look up and see jets coming in (I live close to 3 major airports round London so that's quite often!!!). Could have been in line for piloting the A380s by now.......Anyone any supportive comments before I start booking sessions with my shrink?Martin :-)

Was there anyone that scene the theatrical release and the DVD version of the movie. I remember seeing the review (Ebert and Roeper) and they had some scenes from the movie that I didn't see in the DVD. It seems like they edited the movie so that the scenes so the bits the critics didn't like were omitted. I'm not sure of this however as I'm going on the memory of the review. I didn't see the theatrical release. I have the repainted version of the C-119 in the Amacor "Flight of the Phoenix" paint scheme. Having scene the movie a couple of times it's pretty close the typeface on the wings are a little thick in model version. It would kinda cool if there was a sound for the…

Recall this Challenger which overshot runway on takeoff from the Teterboro airport and plunged into a warehouse a few weeks ago?FAA just shot down the whole company - it turns out they had no paperwork that would allow them to operate the flying charter service. Someone just emailed this to me and I thought it might amuse friends at Avsim:Two men dressed in pilots' uniforms walk up the aisle of the airplane. Both are wearing dark glasses, one is using a guide dog and the other is tapping his way along the aisle with a white cane. Nervous laughter spreads through the cabin, but the men enter the cockpit, the door closes, and the engines start up. The passengers begin glancing nervously around, searching for some sign that this is just a little practical joke. None is forthcoming. The plane moves faster and faster down the runway, and the people sitting in the window seats realize they're headed straight for the water at the edge…
