Hello, guys. Over the last year or so I've been contemplating a change in employment. Currently I work as a network administrator and telecom engineer, but I've always felt the desire to fly. I was curious for those who have gone the professional route what you think about your career choice and, as always, any advice you may offer to someone looking to join the industry?

I just spent about 20+ hours making a video of a recent (actual) trip to Hawaii using FRAPS and Windows Movie Maker, plus actual digital pictures and music, etc, etc. The total time of the video was about 11 minutes and the file size was about 92mb. WMM would NOT save it to my computer or a CD. I have plenty of storage available and the source files are in tact. WMM 'HELP' says you can save movies up to 4gb.??? What is the problem?? It seems I can save movies only up to about 6-7-8 minutes max. ???? (Is there another movie making program available??)Thanks for any input!Scott

From the front page:"On July 4, 1776, America claimed their independence from Britain and Democracy was born."Well, not really. The idea of democracy* was born in Ancient Greece in the 5th century BC. Also, in the beginning the states were undemocratic: they did not allow women, Native Americans, slaves, indentured servants, nor people not meeting property qualification, to vote.___* From the Greek "demos", "people," and "kratos", "rule".

The North American P-51D Mustang has emerged as an icon, and is by far the most widely recognized piston fighter ever produced. Now to an American maybe it's the most recognized airplane ever. However, if I asked my mum to look at a Spitfire and next to it showed a Mustang guess what? She would not have a clue about the Mustang but just may guess the spitfire. Now to a German: Trust me, they all know what a Spitfire looks like. Now if we showed these profiles all over the world to different people and different races and different ages I'd put any money you like on a beat that more people would recognize the Spitfire. So ........ It's certainly not by far the most widely recogn…

Last night I was on a Delta MD-88 and before pushback, before the engines were started, there was a loud, highpitched whine that lasted for about three minutes. I was seated right over the wings and I thought that the noise was comming from a box above my head, but I'm not sure.Anybody have any idea what it was?

Hey, I have a question...Why is it that when you do a long (4000+ mile) direct GPS route in FS9, the route isnt straight, instead forming an arch that goes way north/south then comes back. Example direct flight route ---(Greenland)--- ----- ------- --- ------- SFO--- ----EDDFHorrible illustration, but you get the idea ;)

I've been flying internationally as a pax since 1961. I can remember my first jet flight on a Swissair Caravelle in that year. I flew in the Caravelle quite a bit as a young kid, the Comet 4B, then the Trident series, the 707, the 720 (now who remembers THAT?!), the VC-10 (fantastic plane--smooth and extremely quiet in the cabin), BAC 1-11, and the early "jumbo jets", especially the 747 (wow, God Bless that Queen forever and after!)I've never stopped flying although I love it a lot less today. Why? Because I feel that we've really made no significant progress in the past 40 years from a pax perspective. At least, from a Coach class pax perspective. Flying today is a…

Hi all.I was doing the Aviation Photo Quiz over at airliners.net, and came across a photo of a 747, taken from the front, offset to the (photographers) right. The photo was very close-up, and showed the front landing gear, front-half of the left hand side of the plane and out to the inboard engines.Question was, is this a -300 or a -400.?As it turns out, it was a -300.Which brings me to my question. If you can

Woohooo...Stubled across a cool website that lets one create a RSS feed from a site like AVSIM. Give a try, seems to work very well.http://feed43.com/avsim-news.xmlDoesn't include the file library additions, just the news. But I think I might be able to add library additions in a separate feed.Hopefully, I'm not breaking any rules by doing this. If so, let me know and I'll take it down :)Matt Fox

Has anyone read this yet or now much about it anyway? It seems quite alarming and ,as most gloomy predictions, is hard to evaluate unless it is actually happening/happened.Cheers

Please give this a go, um, it's something that I've just been working on. There are all these personality tests out there on the net but none which rank you as a kind of aeroplane. Until now. I thought this might help people decide what type of models to fly or something. Please try it and let me know what you think. http://quizfarm.com/test2.php?q_id=207836 Hmm, turns out I've been a Douglas DC-10 all along. Hmmm. Che

After some soul searching, I have decided that I might need to make a career change of sorts.A couple years ago, I graduated with a BA in Political Science from the University of Michigan. While I was in school, I always planned to move to DC. I ended up interning in DC and I spent 6 months there working for an grassroots organization. The problem was that I met a woman, who I am now married to, my last semester in school. She is in Law School here in Detroit so I had to move back. Since my area of expertise (I use that term very loosely) is foreign affairs, there are not many jobs here in Detroit in that industry.I thought about going back in to sales but I really don't …
